Best thing you saw: Week 2

Submitted by mi93 on

Another week of entertaining games, including a wake-up call in Ann Arbor.  There were definitely some solid finishes with ND-GA and the battle for all the corn and blonde maidens in Iowa the most entertaining.  With that…

Non-Michigan: though in a loss, I came away VERY impressed with Phillips (#4) of Western, he of the fumble return and KO return for all of their points.  He nearly added a pick to his day.  Watching OSU get dismantled for the second time in three games was very enjoyable.  The 4th quarter and OT of Iowa – Iowa St. was great theater.  However…the one-handed TD catch by GA was the best thing I saw today.  Incredible effort.

Michigan: funny how 18- and 19-year olds don’t always bring the same emotion and energy week-to-week.  Up 14 early, M looked like it let off the gas because ‘this gonna be easy’.  Best thing I saw here was a coachable moment – all within a win – that could prove the difference in keeping this young team’s attention as the games get tougher.

What say you?

to Dierdorf and Brandy on the internet, we attended an excellent college football game Stanford at USC.  There were a lot of  great plays in the game including some sensational catches and runs by both teams. Just a really well played game.   Love Michigan football and love watching college football when Michigan wins.  Don't care much for the NFL anymore.

And Ty Issac running all over the field.

Michigan defense improving. Devin Bush with another impressive perofrmance. ND losing.

We need O'Korn or Peters to step up, though. We're not going to get anywhere with Speight running the show. Our secondary needs to tighten things up as well. If Moore connects on a couple of those deep balls the game could've turned out very differently.

My son just left for a three month program abroad. We put him on a plane last night; he boarded about the same time the OSU game was starting.

He's not a great communicator, so I had braced myself for the fact that I probably would have to prod him at some point today to hear that he got there safely, and hope that he'd figured out his phone settings for international service.

4:30 am I start getting the texts of crowing commentary. He'd landed, turned on phone, and saw the OSU score.

Seriously, are there any other words in the song aside from Boomer Sooner? I know I could google it. Even if there are other words do the OU fans even know it or do they just keep singing Boomer Sooner?

Definitely Ohio State and the large piece of humble pie they got served on their home field. Fuck everything about that shitty, cheating program.

Best: Flags!!! Two pick sixes but this time for the good guys. Shane Morris. EMU Hurons beating Buttgers. And aside from the Ohio loss, an ND loss. Oh and Baylor losing too. If only Ped St would have lost again.

-Michigan winning. It was ugly and sloppy at times, granted. But a win is a win. The team will get better. Take the win and lessons earned along the way. That win was against a coach who is very familiar with Michigan, has consistently beaten them in the past, and likely fired his players up to play well over their heads.

-ND losing. The wife is a Georgia fan so that helps too.

-OSU losing was nice, but I still couldn't help but feel like "nobody kills you but me." A lot of teams EXCEPT Michigan have found ways to beat those guys. Would sure like to see OSU win out up to the Michigan game, and we knock them off their pedestal and out of the playoff race.

Would argue against them letting off the gas...they were a few plays that should have been made away from a blow out. They shot themselves in their foot quite a few times.

The D is great and the offense has to iron out a few things.

Three way the for me from yesterday's game: 1) Tyree Kinnel; 2) Ty Isaac; and 3) the crushing blow delivered by Rashan Gary after his review for targeting and the subsequent fan reaction to it. Wows all around!

Shane Morris goes for 467 yards, 5 TDs on 28 of 37 attempts (on second thought, maybe thats not the best thing since it would be nice to see a current Michigan QB doing that)

Great to see Shane have a great game. His first game of the season was far less impressive though. Glad he got in a rhythm.
Clearly Kansas doesn't play defense. I wonder if they thought it would be a cakewalk because Central struggled with an FCS team last week.

Easily Baker Mayfield planting the flag at the osu 50. He implies he did it because osu was singing the fight song after they beat OU last year, which seems reasonable enough - that crap pisses me off too. Still, Buckeye fans don't see it as a reasonable retort and are mad as hell at him, which is almost as awesome as the act itself: https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2017/09/85196/video-…

Other than the first drive of the second half, the best thing I saw was the Michigan defense. Those kids played well and I didn't see a lack of fire out of them this week.
The running game was good and probably should give the OL some credit, especially on the toss plays. I was impressed with the movement of some big bodies to the edges and how they sealed huge gaps for Isaac. Speight didn't throw a pick, I know, some were close, but positive in my book. He wasn't sharp, but maybe we adjust some expectations a bit, he is getting used to new receivers and it isn't like he has Jake Butt down the middle of the field.
I didn't think the play calling offensively was as tight as it could have been. The run game was working, stick with it.

Non Michigan- any opportunity I get to see Ohio State lose is a good time. Oklahoma is a very solid team, this was their chance to establish themselves for the playoff discussion. Ohio State will be good in November and they will correct some things, but I think we as a fan base have to pump the brakes on thinking they are world beaters. I think they had a better team last year and we know how that worked out for us.

Michigan was completely off for half the game and still won by 22 points. I heard comparisons to Hoke and Akron...this team didn't need a last second goal line stand to win. I'll chalk it up to growing pains for now, plus Harbaugh knows how to coach so we know they will improve. Win and move on.

Non-Michigan: obviously the OSU loss, then Baker running around with the flag and planting it in their O. Turnabout's fair play, Buckeyes. Even better: OU-OSU resembled UM-Florida, in that OU outplayed them for the entire game and the score didn't really reflect it as much as it should. If not for self-inflicted mistakes in half one, it's a blowout by the 3rd quarter. OSSu didn't just lose by 15 points at home, they got thoroughly dominated.
