Ben VanSumeren back to the Portal
ehh...didnt link it directly.
He lasted only one season at MSU. Interesting.
Mel likes guys to pop in and then pop back out again. Old Love-em-and-leave-em Mel.
Tucker likes his transfers to pop.
He's just not B1G material.
His brother is a tank. Too bad it didn't work out for him at MSU...
Maybe he can try for OSU or ND next.
Or our other rivals: Illinois or Rutger.
Slippery Rock for the win!
Oh snap, Alex ain't gonna like this!

Sucks that he was there long enough for his brother to follow him.
Was a good athlete, but had to switch positions and didn't seem like a modern LB that could go sideline to sideline.
Alex is already enrolled.
Ben not going to get any time, MSU hit the portal for his position.
Hit up a MAC school and get some minutes.
MSU hit the portal for his position.
More than just his position. 2 RBs, 2 LBs, 1 CB, 1 TE, 1 EDGE.
And they signed 23 freshmen.
How much attrition did they have after last season?
According to MLive, 19 players have left their team via the portal since September.
Tucker is processing a fourth of the roster per year. It works until it doesn't. Will be curious the effect on HS recruiting in 3 years - for now it's all good due to Walker. Obviously competition happens at every program and if you don't work out you don't but Mel processed a few true freshman I believe and a bunch of sophomores as well.
#BenLeavin
He was 6th on their depth chart apparently, and they only play 2 LBs at a time, so he was not going to play. MSU writers saying the staff and he left things on good terms.
I thought MSU's LBs were decent last year, but they went out and got 2 from the portal, 2 faster guys, so maybe speed was the issue they saw.
I mean this objectively b/c I grew up next to his Grandpa and I know his dad a bit, so with that I'll say that BVS looked really out of place at LB and very slow. Always reacting seconds too late. It wasn't Michigan's fault that he wasn't getting PT, and it isn't MSU's. He's just not a B1G linebacker.
What a stupid loser.
Ben is good kid. If your talking about Alex, on the other hand .....
There was a time, not all that long ago, where Ben was ahead of Hassan Haskins on the RB depth chart…
...and then he fumbled against Army. Death knell!
I wouldn't mind brining the FB position back for the 3rd and 4th and short Fb dives we used to run with the hammering panda and Ben Mason.
Ben could fill in there.
speaking of bench mason, PFR says he's with the bears practice squad. anyone know if this is accurate still?

So you're salty that there's no fullback? Is there a cure?
I'm sorry, I'm just hamming it up.
He's just gonna stay at MSU because that's how being a Michigan fan works
Doesn't the revolving door up there eventually hurt their APR scores or is that not a thing anymore?
I'm not sure it's still a thing. I looked on the NCAA website and the last year that they posted was for 2018-2019. In that year, Northwestern was first in the Big Ten with a score of 995. UM was tied for fifth with Minnesota at 980. MSU was last with a score of 952. Of course, 930 is the minimum to stay out of trouble.
SI had an article a while ago that says the NCAA will loosen it up due to new transfer rules, so Mel's probably not worried.

Mel tucker churning and burning. Team full of mercenaries.
Ferris is his next stop!
LOL. After all the talk on the way out, he misses our best season in decades and then isn't even wanted at MSU.
Watch out now. Teams that he leaves make the playoffs.
And how many commenters on here were worried about him taking vengence on Michigan.
I assume Tucker held off on telling him he's down the depths chart until his brother had signed.
I get wanting to play with your brother but after barely seeing the field on a mediocre MSU defense last year this felt inevitable.
Sometimes the greener "grass" turns out instead to be oregano.

Unfortunately, I found that out the hard way in my youth.... not nearly as bad as the time I tried "opium" incense....

Ben is clearly the kind of guy we used to joke about in the 1980s as being "a legend in his own MIND" - good riddance from B1G football. Head to EMU and have your bro transfer to Indy

My memory of Ben is how easily smoked he got in Don Browns D at Indy in the awful loss in 2020. MAC material period.
Once Mel suckered him in to get his lil bro, Mel went to the portal and got 2 new starters. Ben served his purpose for Mel and was discarded. Reality.
He’ll be at CMU
