BBrown: Vic Enwere Commits to Cal, Coaches Identify New Possible Target

Submitted by Brandon Brown on

Not surprising to anyone 2014 RB Vic Enwere reaffirmed his commitment to Cal tonight via Twitter and it appears the Michigan coaches already knew it was coming.

Well before Enwere announced anything publicly, earlier today Coach Singletary and Coach Nussmeier reached out to RB Marlon Mack who is currently committed to UCLA. The offer from the Bruins is by far his biggest on paper as most of his other offers are from less than powerhouse programs.

FILM

Coach Singletary and Coach Nuss reached out to Mack today and expressed how impressed they were by his film. He told me that the coaches asked him a lot of questions to see how interested he might be in Michigan and tried to make sure he understood that they had taken notice of his skills.

Mack was very open with me about how he basically committed to UCLA simply to see what other schools might then become interested. He told me that he likes UCLA, but he doesn't love them. That to me sounds like a kid fishing for a specific offer, although he tells me that there isn't necessarily one particular offer he covets.

This might come off as a little dishonest but he told me that he truly feels like he's been overlooked and thought committing would be a good way to get noticed. He did say he felt shocked that Michigan has now taken notice. The coaches didn't mention anything to him about an offer yet but obviously they would like to add a running back to the 2014 class and Mack appears to be a backup plan if things go south with Jeff Jones.

Mack is a very good talent. His comp is not very good. We beat them last year by 40 points. Coach Jones is trying to turn that program around though. Our game against them was rained out this year so I didn't see him live. I like the Jeff Jones kid personally. That's the one we should really focus on.

Well done Brandon. Ive appreciated your work since you NAILED the Winovich committment. Here is what Im most interested... whether these new offers the past week, were of Nussmeier's. Its very possible if they knew he was coming, to have our staff get on them before Nuss arrived. Plus Id be curious if any new offers come, like this Mack one, if it were due to Nuss again. If you have any inkling of it then please share.

Yeah, the interesting aspect of Mack's offer's is that there was UCLA and then Indiana, USF, FIU, Marshall, Iowa State, Ball State and a few more or minor caliber at best.

His stats are in different places around the Internet, but for the last two seasons, it looks as if he's had well over 1,000 yards rushing with more than a dozen rushing TDs in 2012 and 2013.

I watched his film he has good speed, catches the ball out of the backfield, pick ups blocks well, runs well in sand and you have to like a RB that uses the stiff arm.

I think this guy could flip to Michigan but will he be the kind of commitment that Jeff jones would be? If they want to go after a lower ranked guy I think they should go afte c.j. Hilliard who is committed to Iowa and also the brother of '15 linebacker and big time target justin Hilliard

love it when a kid scores and hands/gently tosses the ball to the closest referee after he gets in the endzone.

nice speed, direction change, vision, and he scampers when he gets some room.

I really like this kids highlight film. He seems to make very quick cuts and has good vision. Obviously, seeing complete game film is different, but I think that his speed would be a good lightning to the thunder we already have on campus.

RB's. I would think they would be paying more attention to the interior line of both sides of the ball.

Are they concerned about defections or injuries? Good running backs require a lot of repetitions and shuttle backs constantly does not help them develop their running skills.

What am I missing?
