Balas: NCAA to visit Michigan on Thursday to discuss Signalgate
"Michigan is expected to receive a visit from the NCAA late this week, multiple sources have informed TheWolverine.com." Full article here. Says that Michigan takes the scouting issue seriously, and the outcome could determine the timing of Harbaugh's contract extension.

Better late than never but you would have liked to have seen this before leaking to Bucknut reporters.
My guess is that if they actually start looking at this activity, most teams do some form of this. Although I can’t imagine too many other people are as stupid as Stallions using his own credit card to buy the tickets.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:06 PM ^
The OSU guy used his public Venmo account to pay others to go scout ND so he wasn't much better.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:15 PM ^
Wait, what happened now?
October 24th, 2023 at 8:16 PM ^
An OSU scout (Zdebski I think his name is) paid another OSU scout via Venmo and used the four leaf clover emoji days before the ND game.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:30 PM ^
I stand corrected. I did hear that the OSU staffer told a reporter that what Stallions was doing was very similar to what he did.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:31 PM ^
Where is this being reported?
October 24th, 2023 at 9:05 PM ^
Yea why isnt this shit out there? Why are only OSU viewpoints getting out but UMs are not? I know we can't officially say anything..but where is our behind the back info leaking shit about OSU and other teams.
We are being WAY to passive in this
October 25th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
Isn't there a major difference here? He provided payment for a game against a current opponent, not a future one, correct? Unless I'm missing something, I'm not sure how this is the same (as much as I wish it were).
October 25th, 2023 at 11:21 AM ^
isn't the rule in question actually not permitting scouting opponents in your CURRENT schedule? It is an honest question as i'm getting lost in the stupid wording and by laws
October 25th, 2023 at 12:20 PM ^
Correct. I don’t know that there are any prior precedents for a team like Clemson that is not on the schedule, but could be if they make it to the playoffs.
11.6.1 Off-Campus, In-Person Scouting Prohibition. Off-campus, in-person scouting of future opponents (in the same season) is prohibited, except as provided in Bylaws 11.6.1.1 and 11.6.1.2. (Adopted: 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94, Revised: 1/14/97 effective 8/1/97, 1/19/13 effective 8/1/13, 1/15/14)
October 25th, 2023 at 12:14 PM ^
Correct, you are able to attend games that your employer is playing in. You are not permitted to attend any games that your team is not playing in, period. That would be considered in person scouting, and is prohibited. There are additional rules about using technology, but simple attendance at an event would be an infraction by itself.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
I’ve seen a few screenshots on Reddit of some young staffer doing the same thing, though I don’t think I saw anything confirming the voracity.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:33 PM ^
Would you say the voracity is unverified??
October 24th, 2023 at 8:45 PM ^
Unovirified I think.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:48 PM ^
Is Reddit hungry?
October 24th, 2023 at 8:21 PM ^
the fact he used his own credit card could greatly benefit Michigan. As long as there were no reimbursements.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:44 PM ^
What he should have been doing if he was doing this at all was using prepaid visa gift cards.
October 24th, 2023 at 9:55 PM ^
especially if he were buying them at a discount from a store which also gave him rewards or fuel points on the purchase
October 24th, 2023 at 8:47 PM ^
"Anyone out there that is saying this doesn't go on anywhere else and it just happens in Michigan, they're lying to you, or they are ignorant to how the game of football is played today at least at the college level."

Adversity makes for strange bedfellows. Never thought I’d be behind things being said by:
Brady Quinn
Deon Sanders and
Colin Cowherd
October 24th, 2023 at 9:16 PM ^
It has to be a little awkward for the NCAA when pretty much everyone who's ever played college football is rolling his eyes at this "investigation."
October 24th, 2023 at 10:03 PM ^
And yet the ncaa will still punish Michigan with something.
October 25th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
Don't forget JJ Watt and Brock Huard
October 25th, 2023 at 3:07 AM ^
Pretty sure his own card is fine. It’s university money they’d be into. Still - yes, if you’re doing alleged espionage, another identity is the standard of practice. But we’re not talking about actual espionage here and I think that he used his card points to that.

I assume that’s the meeting where Warde unnecessarily bends over for the NCAA
October 24th, 2023 at 8:58 PM ^
Mooon Riveeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Thanks Doc, did you ever serve time?
October 24th, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
Doc: "I don't find anything wrong with you."
Fletch: "Huh. Well, I'm sure it's not for a lack of looking."
October 24th, 2023 at 9:50 PM ^
Is the Dr RosenRosen or Dr RosenPenis?
October 24th, 2023 at 8:03 PM ^
NCAA: Hi Warde, nice to mee...
Warde: HURT ME, DADDY
October 24th, 2023 at 8:03 PM ^
And maybe throws harbaugh under the bus while he’s at it
October 24th, 2023 at 8:20 PM ^
Maybe??
October 24th, 2023 at 7:49 PM ^
Is this the meeting that starts the 90 day clock?
October 24th, 2023 at 7:52 PM ^
No, that would be receipt of the Notice of Allegations. Michigan still hasn’t received the Notice for Burgergate.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:03 PM ^
Wait, what? So we self imposed a three game ban and hadn't even received a NOA?
October 24th, 2023 at 8:11 PM ^
Yep. That is what they are calling it getting ahead of it. Whatever that means.
October 24th, 2023 at 9:11 PM ^
It was so that Harbaugh wouldn’t miss Texas next year. He gets credit for the three games once the NCAA decides their punishment, so even if the NCAA tacks on one more, he’d be back in time for Texas.
There are reasonable gripes about Michigan’s approach to NCAA investigations, but the suspension was not pointless self-flagellating and it’s alarming how many people seem to think it was.
October 24th, 2023 at 10:13 PM ^
I know what you are saying, but it was a burger for crying out loud. Some colleges are spending millions and we are taking this seriously. Nothing new, but it just pisses me off that there is no consistency.
October 25th, 2023 at 1:26 AM ^
I don't think this is true but it's a much more fun version of the truth so we should keep repeating it.
October 25th, 2023 at 8:09 AM ^
It was not JUST the burgers, it was also for hosting visits during covid according o the NCAA, some zoom meetings watching workouts, maybe a few other minor thigs, but it was not just about burgers...
October 25th, 2023 at 8:32 AM ^
Oh, right. During COVID. When rules changed daily and no one knew what the fuck was going on. Makes sense to make an example of Michigan during a pandemic for watching players workout on Zoom.
October 25th, 2023 at 10:02 AM ^
Hey man, I'm just the messenger. People sure don't like to hear the truth around here, geez...
October 24th, 2023 at 7:53 PM ^
Seems kind of fast for that. I think the 90 day clock starts when they send Michigan a written notice of allegations, but it looks like they are still investigating.
October 24th, 2023 at 7:49 PM ^
Jim should take them to the Brown Jug for a burger.
October 24th, 2023 at 7:52 PM ^
I could actually see him doing this.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:22 PM ^
Then over to Crisler Arena to raise some old banners.
October 24th, 2023 at 8:50 PM ^
RAISE THE FUCKING BANNERS!!!!!!
October 24th, 2023 at 8:43 PM ^
"Hey, we've been here three hours--are you guys getting peckish? How about lunch? It's on me!"
October 24th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
I’m guessing that picking up the tab for NCAA investigators there to investigate you picking up the tab for recruits is completely legit and expected
October 24th, 2023 at 7:51 PM ^
ncaa guy talking to Michigan.
