B10 Basketball Open Thread
Neb @ Purdue
Sparty @ Minn
NCISU?? @ IU
Looks like an easy home win for Purdue a few days before they come to Crisler. OTOH, Hummel looks like he's in the zone. OTOOH, it's Neb.
Sparty has about a 20-25% chance to lose at the Barn, I assume. GO GOPHERS

Tonight, we are all Golden Gophers. Not expecting them to win, but dang would that be nice.

What time/channel is the Minnesota game?
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:35 PM ^
8:30pm EST on BTN
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:16 PM ^
I haven't seen them play at all this year (The only game of ours I missed was the game we played them). I feel like they should be better based on the classes Tubby has been bringing in combined with his coaching (at least I thought he was a good coach). Whats going on there? I know they have some off the court problems last year. Have those carried over?
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:35 PM ^
They lost Mbakwe to an ACL injury in November
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:17 PM ^
cant just walk into the Barn and expect to walk out with a win. I predict a Minny victory to save any chance of post season play.
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:21 PM ^
MSU has had a few huge games back to back so they are prime for a let up game. I dont like let up so I am going with let down instead.
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:22 PM ^
as it could just as easily apply to our next game.
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:28 PM ^
that was the let down game last night. Same type of game and we needed to hit 15 3s and go to overtime to get the win. So maybe my logic will work for Minny
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:58 PM ^
phantom fouls / no big men first half / outscore by 18 in 2nd and OT on the road in the biggest game in the home teams history = Letdown ? ?
I'm not buyin it.
February 22nd, 2012 at 8:07 PM ^
yes it was their biggest game ever in the history of their program. So yes it was a possible let down game did you even watch it? With all the things you wrote it still took 2 huge threes in the last minute and 15 threes total to just pull away in overtime. The game was very winnable by them. So I think it was the making of a let down game but we prevailed which was great.

I didnt watch

I want Minnesota to win so bad, but I just don't see it happening. I think the best chance for State to lose is at IU.
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:39 PM ^
about Ohio last game of the season for a title shot on the line maybe?
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:44 PM ^
They still have to play OSU. Sure, the Buckeyes have struggled lately, but they're still are really good team--much better than IU, at Assembly Hall or otherwise.
February 22nd, 2012 at 8:03 PM ^
It's also senior day for Green. I still think a loss to Indiana is more likely than a loss to Ohio for them. Although both are very possible..

(YTNCCU).
February 22nd, 2012 at 7:54 PM ^
Difficult place to play. I think The Gophers have a legit shot at the upset. Problem is, Sparty knows where they stand and how important the game is... so they're bound to show up ready to play

Purdue has an interesting résumé. They're 18-10 and 8-7 in conference, but their RPI was just 55 coming in. Are they in?

February 22nd, 2012 at 8:33 PM ^
I would think .500 in conference and not exiting in first round of BTT should pretty well be a lock.
February 22nd, 2012 at 8:28 PM ^
Hummel Is scary good, but now you get to come to Crisler. Good luck with that.
February 22nd, 2012 at 8:39 PM ^
Is Byrd back now, or is he still suspended?
February 22nd, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
He played today against Nebraska and had quite a few threes (five to be exact).
February 22nd, 2012 at 8:43 PM ^
Well crap. I'm still frustrated MSU somehow lucked into not having to deal with him.
February 22nd, 2012 at 8:36 PM ^
The nice thing about Minnesota's nickname is that it's also a cheer:
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPHERS!

If you're Minnesota, the one guy you just can't leave wide open repeatedly is Green. Tubby Smith doesn't impress me as a game coach.
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:08 PM ^
If you've ever wondered why it's called the Barn, well...
And there are apparently animals besides Gophers living there. Minnesota senior Ralph Sampson III said players have seen bats and bird flying and mice scurrying through Williams Arena.http://www.foxsportsnorth.com/02/20/12/Gophers-players-happy-with-Willi…

Trey Zeigler dropped 33 tonight to go along with 8 rebounds. He would have been a nice pick-up, him and THJr pushing each other would be fun to see.
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:39 PM ^
If Ernie Zeigler is dismissed after this season (not a total shock if it happens given how terrible CMU has been) I wonder if Trey would stay at CMU given that he basically went there to be coached by his father.
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:15 PM ^
WTF is going on here. Four for six from three point land.

But I would freak out if Smots was holding the ball at center court to start our last possession of the half...

A double foul????? Payne fucking tackled him!
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:46 PM ^
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:50 PM ^
These refs are pretty whistle happy right now.
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:54 PM ^
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
Okay, that technical foul was bullshit. He was going full speed and let go as soon as his momentum stopped. If he dunks and lets go immediately, he could gotten rocked by the basket support.
February 22nd, 2012 at 9:58 PM ^
I do agree with this, however, I think all the refs know that they owe Minn one or two calls after they looked at the double foul on the monitor. That should have been a flagrant on Payne.
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:01 PM ^
I am no MSU fan but that was an awful, awful call. Appling was going full-speed into the dunk and needed to gather himself using the rim or he would have surely crashed to the ground awkwardly.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:40 PM ^
I agree the technical was BS. He dunked and his momentum carried him backward. As he was going backwards, basically as soon as it was safe, he let go.
