Athlon's Top 25 Non-Conference Games: Two of UM's Ranked
IMO, the Utah game is ranked too low and the BYU game is ranked too high.
And really, I can't quarrel with their No. 1.

But we need SOMETHING to talk about from now until Sept. 3, don't we?
I was just thinking to myself how boring this point in the offseason is. We have about two weeks until fall camp but at least then things will speed up hard core.
Damn you for taking away my college football games. :(
That's what apparel threads are for.
Part of the fun is all the talk and speculation leading up to the season. It's why we read season preview magazines, buy HTTV, etc.
so it's a bit unfair. I'm sure our games with MSU and OSU would rank higher than ND-ASU or ND-Pitt.
a list like this, as even though they only play 5 games, they are an ACC member, and they are obligated to play those games, and they are thrown in with the ACC as far as bowl tie ins.
I know ND fans like to still claim their are football independents, fuck them, with their recent ACC deal that isn't really true anymore, they're acc members now.
I hope they lose everyone of those games.
If Clemson comes in to the game ranked, they will lose 45-10
If Clemson comes in to the game unranked, they will win 45-10
to Clemson's annual fall off the cliff. It's about as consistent as the tides. Usually a spectacular beatdown (as you note) is involved 8 or 9 games into the season, and of course, everyone knows it's coming. Kind of feels like tradition at this point. Thanks Clemson.
Is a conference game. Doesn't ND belong to the ACC now?
Yeah I had the same reaction, but I think for Clemson, the game doesn't count against their conference record (I'm fairly sure). So I can see how it is a non-conference game. Kind of dumb though since that means any Notre Dame game is a non-conference game.
They "only" put six of ND's games up there. What happened to the other six?
It's so dumb. Plus, aren't they sort of considered part of the ACC based on their scheduling agreement. I see them vs some ACC teams on the list. Can't wait till there are super conferences and they are forced to join one. That should make for a good cry-fest.
Oregon lost Mariota and it's a road game. Plus they struggle with physical teams. Still pulling for the Ducks, but I don't like their chances.

from Elite to Very Good. They lost a lot in the season before. Last year the offense was better and helped for the drop in defensive performance. I would assume they continue to have a VeryGood defense this year, but not elite like the two years previous to last year.
The D got exposed against Oregon, OSU and Baylor. The template to neutralize that defense is out there. They don't do well in space or with spread teams.
They are still very good against MANBALL teams. That's why I hope we run some type of power spread offense...yes similar to what OSU ran last year. I think it maximizes their weaknesses, minimizes their strengths.
Is the author a domer or something?
The writer holds BYU and clemson in really really high regard for some reason
i mean they regarded them as a historical power. Which last time i checked theyve never won nothing
Is only 6 years removed from MI's. They are also ususally one of the frontrunners in the ACC...
thought it was '91. They say the memory is the first thing to go:(
before you got to the early 80's when Clemson won the NC.
Utah being a road game is huge for our program. I knew our road record was bad, but I didn't realize that it was this bad...over the past 10 years, Michigan has the 4th worst road record of all FBS teams at 9-58.
It would be a great start to the Harbaugh era to start burrying that statistic in game 1.
We've been bad... But not that bad.

The article is talking about Eastern Michigan. Although our road record is terrible. Not a lot of quality road wins. Overall 21-25 on the road the last ten years.
2005 wins: @MSU, Iowa, and Northwestern
2006: @ ND, Minn, PSU, Indiana
2007: @ NW, Illinois, MSU
2008: @ Minn
2009: None - Yuck
2010: @ ND, Indiana, Purdue
2011: @ NW, Illinois
2012: @ Purdue, Minn
2013: UConn, NW
2014: NW
Wiscy-Alabama is super-interesting to me. Sparty vs. Oregon should be interesting, but that isn't close to the Oregon team MSU faced last year, and I'm not sure it'll tell much except that, maybe, MSU can keep up with your Oregon's of the world if Cook and co. can keep the scoring going. Because right now, I'm not loving that MSU defensive backfield.

not sure watching TCU club Minnesota really qualifies
I see Oregon MSU as a high scoring game. MSU struggles with teams that have speedy WRs and accurate quarterbacks. It's the physical teams that insist on running up the middle every play they do well against.

Games of high interest to me
- Auburn v Louisville - Petrino is an ass but he can coach football.
- Oregon v MSU - Ducks are a wonderful species. Hope that QB from Eastern Washington is eligible and ready to play at a high level
- Any game with GA Tech - that offense is friggin entertaining as hell
- BYU v Neb - I am picking BYU in an upset with one of the most fun QBs in the country at the helm and Neb coming off devastating loss to UCLA at home 2 yrs ago, Wisconsin depanting them last year and a FCS team almost beating them last yr.
- ASU v AM, I love ASU's offense and they could be a dark horse playoff team albeit a very tough division.
I dont think Minn has the guns to keep up with TCU and I think people are really overestimting that team this year due to last year. They have a great secondary and nice coaching staff. Lost top running back and TE and have a running back as a QB. Could get ugly vs a Heisman level QB.
TN v OU is too high for me at 5 until TN shows it is not mediocre.
