Anyone put their $$$ where there mouth is yet on 2009?

Submitted by BNags on
Slow day and I just received notice I obtained posting privileges, so here it goes: One of my oldest and closest friends is a die hard Spartina fan and UM / RR hater. After numerous hate emails from him regarding RR and how he's running UM into the ground, I had no choice but to make the following friendly wagers: (1) $100 on the UM v MSU game (straight up, no points); (2) $100 that UM hits 8 wins (including bowl game); and (3) $100 that MSU falls short of 8 wins (including bowl game). Win or loose, it's not about the $$$, but about the smack talk. Anyone else lay any bets down yet with any of the UM / RR haters?

I don't have that kind of money, but I did bet my friend who goes to State a fifth of Burnett's that Tate would throw a TD pass to Denard by the end of the season

You should have driven a harder bargain. I think RR is a great coach and will be very successful here, but you may still lose all three of those bets. A better bet would be on UM's success in the long term, which I think is highly likely. If he thinks RR is going to run UM into the ground, he should be willing to wager that we won't improve from year to year, and that this year we wouldn't win many more games than last year (and certainly not more than 6).

I don't think I would necessarily take any of these, but they were made in the heat of the moment and based upon my optimism for a quick turn around. I've already told him [the diehard Spartina] that it won't even matter after this year because UM will be winning 10+ games regularly from 2010 on! Will it really happen, maybe...maybe not, but you've got to believe and hope that it can!

Lloyd: I'll bet you twenty bucks I can get you gambling before the end of the day! Harry: No way! Lloyd: I'll give you three to one odds. Harry: No. Lloyd: Five to one. Harry: No. Lloyd: Ten to one? Harry: You're on! Lloyd: I'm gonna get ya! Harry: Nuh uh! Lloyd: I don't know how, but I'm gonna get ya.

No, I have not put my money where my mouth is. YET. You all know I will eventually. Thinking of taking UM +2.5 over ND and MSU +7 over ND You can keep tabs on me here and at this new little old blog I created to track money and mouth matters. www.justcoverblog.com

Jamie, Oregon is -5 vs Washington. I know Oregon lost some players but -5?? They still have stud QB and RB. 3 of 5 starting OL scare me but Wash won 0 games and they have a new system in place. What are your thoughts?? Thought this was the most attractive of the "Games of the Year"

Ducks should mop the floor with them. They should be explosive this season under Chip Kelly. I am not sure how improved UW will actually be under Sarkisian. Maybe the KNOWLEDGE can give us an update! Seriously, take the Ducks.....if nor other reason, I dont think that number will shrink between now and game week. -5 might be the cheapest you will see the line.

because I'm convinced - CONVINCED - that if I did it would somehow doom the team. I also wear the same gray shirt with the fading blue MICHIGAN on every game day due to similar irrational beliefs.

I'm a gambling degenerate, but I'll never gamble on a Michigan game. There have been some easy games to bet on for or against Michigan the last few years, but I just can't bring myself to bet on Michigan games. Weird gambling rule I have...

On the other hand, there is no team you know better inside and out than the ones you follow religiously. You can use that knowledge to your advantage. I have always done well betting Michigan and Steeler games. For example, always bet against Michigan in their first road game. It sucks when they lose, but less so if you're 100 bucks richer at the end of the day.

Negligible amounts for fun with an OSU fan: $5 on Michigan seven wins or more in 13 games. $5 on Prior committing 10 turnovers this year, provided he starts at least 8 games.

With a Texas fan buddy of mine for dinner at House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. I'm still smarting from losing our bet on the 2007 season as to which team would end up higher in the AP rankings. You'll recall that was the year of the horror/miracle win vs. Florida and they finished 18th or so, meanwhile Texas had about 5 insane comebacks against shitty teams throughout the season and ended up with the weakest top 10 ranking ever. Anyway, this year the bet is Michigan wins + Lions wins + 1 vs. Texas wins. I'll probably lose this one again, but I figure the Lions are due to surprise some people. Maybe.

I got him to agree to the + 1 on his assumption that Texas would be in the conference championship game, which I looked at as a 50/50 shot or thereabouts. UT's OOC schedule is stupidly easy, but I figure if the Lions can get to 4 wins and the Longhorns don't go undefeated, I'm in good shape. The bet was for dinner at a really great Prime Rib place, for the record.

I put a $5 bet on the ND game with a friend of mine who is an ND fan. I plan on putting some green down on the over/under wins for the season. Also, the ND/USC and Oregon/Wash. spreads are looking pretty nice. Might check those out.

bet against UM covering the spread in any game where they were favored by more than 13 points. LC never blew anyone out of a building. I got to the point of almost betting on UM to not cover a spreead b/c they rarely did. With RR and the spread (offense) all bets are off (no pun intended). At this point I wouldn't bet more than $20 on any game, but after Western I'll be lining some up. I want soooo badly to bet heavy on the ND and MSU games, but I am just a little gun shy after the last two seasons.

i feel decent about your first two bets, but i think MSU will eke out 8 wins. i see W's against montana st, WMU, CMU, NW, purdue then they just need to get 3 out of the rest of the 7. but i guess we can all hope that MSU will return to their imploding ways and you'll make $100

I was really starting to warm up to that line brian talked about in an UV of michigan over 6 wins -160. Think ill pass on the over 7 +105. Ill jump if i see an over 6 though.

A Domer at work bet me $ 100 we will lose to OSU. In a fit of ego I took the bet. Im not feeling very good about this because OSU will be so much better than us and also the story of the bet spread and It stains my professional image.

I just got back from Vegas and before I left I put a $10 bet down that Michigan will win the Big Ten this year. It was paying 10-1, so I figured it was worth a shot

Bump for this article in the Las Vegas Sun with a bunch of early lines from the LV Hilton ... which are not too surprising - M is the underdog in every game listed: Notre Dame -2.5 (Notre Dame -7 vs Sparty) Sparty -4 Penn State -5 Illinois -7 Wisky -3.5 Ohio State -6
