Any specific OL recruits Frey might help close on/flip?
Gotta ask, even if there's only a week to go before signing day and odds are slim to none.
Any o lineman out there that Frey would never have had a chance to pull in at Indiana, but who lives close enough to Bloomington that Frey might have crossed paths with him and attempted to build a relationship?
There's always Becton, but wondering about someone who isn't on the board and/or already committed elsewhere.

Would be nice.

Caleb Jones may be big but he's rated as the composite #95 OT. By comparison Taryque Bateman, who is also very big, is rated #67.
January 25th, 2017 at 4:19 PM ^
It's best to think of these ratings as tiers.
I think they are probably in the same tier.
Once you get past the #1 composite player at a position you could likely take #2-#20 as tier 2 #20< as tier 3 or whatever.
The difference between #60 and #90 at a position is very slim is what I am saying.

This is true..... and to add... the spotlight and expectations, are very high at Michigan. So is the size of the school and many prefer to play at smaller ones.... Didn't that QB RR was after, a kid from Tulane area Shavorick Beaver I think, prefer to play for the smaller program? Some people may want a smaller spotlight and take it easier, and there is nothing wrong with this.
However, with responsibilites come massive benefits, and some want them, and some don't care... Michigan's program after football is phenomenal, with the alumni support.

Enrollment:
Indiana - 48k vs. Michigan - 44k

i had to google him since I remember the board being very disappointed about that and settling for Tate-something. He took the small school thing to the extreme. Midwestern State University. I'm still not certain what state that is even located in.

did he decommit from Tulsa, then choose this school, or was this after spending time in OK?

I get what you're saying, but he committed to an indiana team with a new head coach and OL coach it's a different team now. Not to mention they named the old DC as head coach and their defense was not good. Sure he didn't have a lot to work with, but they gave up 27 points to Rutgers. It seems likely that they replace him and the rest of the staff during the next 4 years. Michigan is going to have Harbaugh for a long time.
January 25th, 2017 at 4:09 PM ^
Except he's listed as much heavier than 320. 380, according to 247 Sports.

to spot in his Hudl film, would be hard to evaluate him properly

It's Becton or Bust

I can't think of anyone else we're even pushing for at this point
also remember that several DL commits could flip over to the offensive side if needed, but I think 5-6 this class and maybe 4 in the 2018 class should be good

I bet several of our recruits in this class will get a look at different positions in practice. You never know for sure where holes in the depth chart will develop or where the best opportunities for early playing time will lie.

Exactly what I was wondering.
Even if they are lower profile guys that he thinks they can mold into great lineman down the road considering they could use a couple more bodies on the OL.
Talent evaluation seems to be one of his strong suits so maybe he already has some guys identified they can move on in the last week (!!!) before signing day.

To add to your list, Frey is listed as the "recruiter" for these recruits.

I know he's listed as an OT, but I can't stop imagining Caleb Jones at D Tackle. I'm sure he would struggle getting low, but he just looks like a brick wall.

is in the NFL Hall of fame. Bubbah Smith is 6'7" and is the college hall of fame in addition to having a lengthy NFL carerr.
January 25th, 2017 at 3:57 PM ^
Calais Campbell is 6'8"
January 25th, 2017 at 4:07 PM ^
January 25th, 2017 at 4:11 PM ^
Exactly. And it's hard to imagine a 380-lb. guy playing DE.
January 25th, 2017 at 4:27 PM ^
Campbell is a 3-4 "DE." He basically plays in a sudo-DT position. He's not usually outside on an OT, rather inside on the OG.
You're right, guys that tall usually aren't DTs. They're certainly never NT, but they sometimes play out of position in different schemes. Which I guess is pointless since Michigan doesn't go 3-4.

Buck Buchanan was a DT for the KC Chiefs in the 60s and 70s. 6-7 and 287 pounds. He was indeed a generational talent.
January 25th, 2017 at 4:10 PM ^
are both listed as defensive ends, not defensive tackles. I don't see Jones listed as being in the NFL Hall of Fame either.
January 25th, 2017 at 7:32 PM ^
Apologize for listing Smith and Jones. I think I probably read DL instead of DT. In any regard, thank you both for your correction and attention to detail. Does anyone know, off hand, who Michigan's tallest DT was?
January 25th, 2017 at 9:45 PM ^
I think he's 6"8' and fans bitched a lot about his being too tall for DT.
January 25th, 2017 at 5:06 PM ^
And both of them were Defensive Ends, not Defensive Tackles.

Does OSU have room in their class to offer him?
January 25th, 2017 at 4:16 PM ^
interest in the last few days and nothing came of it.
January 25th, 2017 at 3:19 PM ^
Indiana was on him before he commited to MSU, any chance we kick the tires on another cass kid? I'd love Donovan Johnson 2, but everytime I post his name I seem to get mocked. Having gone to 3 cass games the past 2 season DJ was to elite IMO.
January 25th, 2017 at 3:22 PM ^
January 25th, 2017 at 3:26 PM ^
he seems too short for what Harabugh and Brown want but Sparty? They even have a CB commit that is smaller - shocked they did not offer him
January 25th, 2017 at 4:05 PM ^
Jourdan Lewis is 1 inch taller than DJ. Glad we didn't pass on him...

with a chance he could carve out a role somewhere else. Probably not what the kid wants to hear though. If he doesn't fit our defense, you have to be honest with him.
