All-Purpose Positive Thread about M football

Submitted by Mercury Hayes on

Cannot take the negativity.

Great interception at the end of the half by Kovacs. He's really been developed well by the coaches into a solid defender.

Nice hitting from Demens - good to have some nice young talent at the LB position.

Nice hard running by Robinson, still fighting and appearing to want to come back even though he has multiple dislocated fingers.

He's only going to get better. I think he'll win a Heisman when it's all said and done. He'll probably break most of our offensive records as well. Dude is special.

I thought this was going to be the least commented on thread in MGoBlog history.  Seriously, there is nothing positive coming out of this game.  Nothing.

I am not saying there is a positive out of this game. All I am saying is that everything negative has already been said. I am not happy with how the game went at all. The only positive is how we looked in the first quarter. Even then though we could not finish things. My point was it was nice to see a positive thread instead of 50 negative threads all saying the same thing.

Well, change doesn't come from turning a blind eye to the negative.  And i'm not talking about firing RR.  He can't just review the tape of the 1st qtr and come out of it saying he's surprised we lost by 30.  He has to embrace the negative and get things changed/fixed.  Look, we lost to the top 4 teams in the league by an average of 3 touchdowns.  This is Michigan.  There is nothing but negative when that is your competitive metric.

After this year OSU can't be big ten champs in a 3 way tie and make claims to 6 in a row when you lost to one of the teams you're tied with......

Here's a few of my positives from the game

- Denard looked really good. If Brian ever UFRs this, it'll probably be Denard's best passing game, percentage wise. The drops killed him but that's not his fault. Most of the drops were in the CA/DO range too, not the marginal throws that almost get brought in.

- The run D played really well. Yes, Herron had that huge run, but that and a 4th quarter run were the only really bad plays by the run D. Demens is a really exciting player to look forward to next year.

- Dileo can hold onto the ball. He's not explosive at all, but when we just need someone to not turn the ball over, I think he's a good answer. I still really like Gallon going forward, but Dileo is a great safe option.

- Nearly this entire team comes back next year. I don't think this can be stressed enough. Schilling has been a very nice player, but he's never been a star G and I don't think we'll miss much with Barnum or Khoury or whoever playing LG next year. Mouton is simultaneously the best and worst defensive player, so Marvin Robinson has a great chance to at least be average and equal to him, or possibly even better.

Obviously not every single person will improve, some will regress, some will get hurt. But how many teams can bring back essentially their entire team?

- We're going to a bowl game! I think people got slightly spoiled in this regard, and possibly rightfully so. But we're going to a bowl game, probably in a warm climate, and get all those extra practice hours because of it. This is a great thing.

The defense played very well in the first quarter. That's it. This was our worst-played game of the year, and if Tressel had decided to punch it in at the end of the game, it would have been the worst loss in the history of Michigan football.

I feel positve about the kids on the team.  No big off field issues, giving their full effort, excellent sense of humor.  I could use some more of these kind of people at work.

The team finally has a bowl game to practice for, so a new all-time bowl streak can begin anew.  Having only listened to part of the game, it sounded like one of those rough games where everything goes right for OSU and almost nothing went right for UM.  Those games happen, and you just hope the team can recover.  The offense was able to move the ball against a pretty solid unit, and you have to expect with this year's experience the players coming back will make this team that much better next year.  It is still a slow process, but this team has a winning record and could still finish with 8 wins.  That would be the combined wins for the last two years.  At this point, I'll take it.

Oh yeah, UM is still a far better school that OSU AND it is not located in the state of Ohio.  Those are wins if I've seen them.

Positives?

Devin Gardner, Will Hagerup, Jordan Kovacs, Cam Gordon, Kenny Demens, Will Campbell (hopefully), Demetrius Hart, Denard Robinson (at RB with Gardner in at QB), Dallas Crawford

We got the pieces, I just don't see the coaching ability. Sorry. I really hope it works out because once RR gets a few big wins, gets his swagger and confidence back we'd be okay. That we don't give a fuck swagger. Defense needs a young coordinator with some energy. Wow Florida State is doing to Florida what I wish we could have done to OSU
