It is also my birthday and I now feel much closer to Al Borges than before. He has just moved up a level in my book... To level 0. Congratulations Al on your promotion and happy bday!

Sometimes we do poorly. We don't want to blame the players, and we've already promoted Hoke and Mattison into minor deities. Hence Borges is a handy scapegoat, and on top of that many of the complaints are even plausible.

There were people demanding his head after the Minnesota game...Where we scored on something like 5 out of 8 drives.  You just can't fix stupid.

The postgame threads after the loss to Iowa in 2011 had enough Borges vitriol that I could have sworn the party "not in favor", if you will, was going to stage a sit-in or something along those lines. It started pretty early around here sadly.

Like his system or not, we should take time out to say "Happy Birthday" to our offensive coordinator all the same.

I do understand why some people dislike him, but I don't think passionate hatred is appropriate. He's a good coordinator, but he's not great. He sometimes calls games in ways that hurt us. And that's a problem for our team. But that doesn't mean he's a bad coordinator. It just means he is not perfect.

Ya know, like everyone else.

I definitely dont have a passionate hate for him which is why he is at level 0, neither positive or negative as my book scores it. For comparison sake I have GERG at -23. Aside from the Ohio game im pretty much neutral on Borges, he gets hot and cold.

Few coordinators would've had the knowledge, flexibility and humility to make the transition this painless.  We are blessed to have you on the sidelines.

I am simply going on the fact that Al has done poorly with the play calls against good teams with good defenses...not every game, but far more than should have been called

that we as a discussion board continually bring up the fact that Borges makes bad call after bad call is the main reason for concern....the conservative play calling in i-form dives in between the tackles will get us nowhere fast against good d-lines...see D. Green getting stuffed for example

Unfortunately, Al's birthday party was ruined when he held it on a lake in a driving squall despite the caterer's inability to swim on the theory that "No one would see that coming!"

Happy birthday Al! Stay Gorgeous!
