Admit it. If we beat Michigan State on Saturday

the possibility of pulling off a national championship  in both football and basketball will look more real to you.

one thing you can say about the jim harbaugh tenure is that michigan has generally not lost to lousy teams, last year's msu game being essentially the only exception.

indiana and maryland are lousy football teams right now.  saying that we might lose those games is pure silliness.

yeah, i thought about that 2016 iowa game, too...but they were better than i remembered.  they did go 8-5 and finished second in the B1G west, a game behind wisconsin.  on they other hand, they did lose to north dakota state and got bombed by florida in the outback bowl.  disappointing?  absolutely.  lousy? not really.

As a college football fan, I absolutely hate this point of view.

I'm a fan of the Michigan football team. Part of the reason that I'm a college football fan and a fan of Michigan football is that winning games is hard. Winning ANY game is hard. Ask Penn State how hard winning games is in the Big 10.

Am I suggesting that beating Ohio State isn't the most important game? Hell no. It is the most important game. But it's not 100% of the season. If Michigan wins all their other games, and loses to one of the 2-3 most dominant college football programs in history, then it's just plain stupid, IMO, to say that "Nothing else matters. They lost. They suck. It's over". I hate that shit. Stop it. If Michigan beats State on the road, it's a hell of an achievement. If they beat Penn State on the road, that's fantastic, and frankly, I don't care how beat up Clifford is.

Losing to OSU doesn't change the character of those achievements.

Further, like somebody said up thread, beating Maryland and Illinois is not given. Again, did anybody watch any games this year? Nothing is given.

Again, am I saying I don't go nuts when Michigan loses? Hell no, I'm impossible to live with for days. But man, I wouldn't be a fan at all if "Ohio State is all that matters". That's reductionist and awful. Again, Stop it.

Every Michigan fan on the planet should want JJ to be the starting QB at this point, Theres nothing Cade is doing that JJ cant do ... and JJ can add many things to the offense Cade cant do...

The best argument for Cade is "he doesnt turn the ball over"  JJ has played some decent snaps and he hasnt tried to force throws ,leaving me to believe he wont turn it over carelessly .....and the upside (for now and the next couple years) is well worth the risk.Im guessing Michigan is 11-0 heading into OSU with either QB and JJ having 4 games and 20 practices with the first string heading into the OSU game ,would be nice

Don’t fall into the trap. JJ will have his time. This is Cades team. For better and worse he’s the guy. Embrace this teams identity instead of wishing to change it. Do you know why Cade has such ho hum passing #s? Because we aren’t 3rd and 11. This teams identity is 2nd & 6. That’s how THIS team wins. I hear all the “you can’t beat OSU without a high powered scoring offense” stuff and yes. That might be true. But does anyone really think that remaking this teams identity into a tempo spread passing team at THIS point in the season, undefeated keep in mind, is actually the smart move? If we can get 2nd & 6 on 80% of our down sets we will beat OSU’s ass that I know. If we try to imitate them and look more like the team they practice against, only less talented. Good luck.

Thank you.  I admit that even if we beat Michigan State and are undefeated going into the Ohio State Game, I fully expect to be exposed and heart broken after the Ohio State Game. Myopic posters that say every year how we are going to beat Ohio State are like stubborn gamblers at the Roulette table that keep betting on black while the wheel just keeps landing on red.  Sure one day it will happen, but until it does, it hasn’t.

I was really hoping this would be a “winning will compel me to…” post with the ending being something inflammatory to your Sparty friends.
