He was a OSU this Monday, but I agree, it looks like PSU.
Good for PSU. It's nice to see them rebuild rather than disintegrate.
They can rot into a heaping pile of waste.
I can understand that sentiment, especially since there isn't anything much more disgusting than what they did (unless you magnify the child rape and coverup to a Catholic Church level), but it's better for the program to clean house and rebuild than for it to disappear.
They can clean house all they want but those thousands of fans who flooded the streets in support of Paterno will always be there and they don't deserve to have a winning program.
So because they are young and dumb, and hold the wrong opinion, they should be punished? Mature attitude.
I'm in college currently, and my college aged friends and I were all disappointed at their behavior (and no, most are not diehard college fans).
Most of us know the difference between the sporting world and real world, and that line was beyond blurred at PSU. Their fans and students are delusional, and I would love to see their program suffer on a prolonged basis.
that any student who had the wrong opinion about what should have happened to Paterno deserves punishment? For an opinion? Well, they are teaching free speech differently at Michigan than when I went.
I never claimed they had no right to their opinion. IMO, they have every right to come out and say what Sandusky did shouldn't be illegal, and have NAMBLA speakers come to campus if they believe it.
That doesn't mean I can't hold a different opinion and have a significant amount of dislike for the football team that represents them.
If you want to talk free speach, I'm just as entitled to show disdain for their actions as they are to protest Paterno's firing.
you say they deserve to be in effect, punished because they made their opinions public. As did the guy you respnded to. That is different than simply holding and voicing a contrary opinion.
I said I wanted their team to suffer (meaning on the football field in this case). We weren't being punished in 2008 or 2009, yet 99.9% of people here suffered.
As for being punished, I do think PSU the institution deserves it. I don't want their fans to be punished, per say, but I don't want them carrying the Big Ten banner at the Rose Bowl any time soon either, in part because of their actions surrounding Paterno's firing.
I can't get back into the whole Paterno thing. You don't know what their position was other than they supported Paterno and were showing that, despite a complete failure of judgement, that they felt the good he had done for their school-not simply in a football sense, but through the charity work, scholarships and schools he funded, and people's lives he improved, deserved support. Most people don't agree with that. So what?
people who hold morally repugnant opinions all the time. This has nothing to do with free speech, by the way. No one is arguing that the government should punish the students. Let me ask you this, if you see an overt racist running for governor in a state in which you are not a resident, do you think it's immoral to hope that his campaign falls part? Do you think that is somehow a punishment of his free speech? Do you think that expressing and promoting immoral beliefs is not an immoral act? Or do you think that immoral acts do not merit punishment?
in the case of the people who publicly attended rallies for Paterno. I do wish evil people il. I wish the people that actually looked the other way the ill of legal punishment, or failing that, the loss of their profession and the money that goes with it. I don't wish people that hold opinions I disagree with ill at all.
Ultimately, though, nobody is arguing that they should lose their freedom, money or jobs because they were at a rally; we're saying we hope their football team loses.
Isn't one of the things we love about Hoke that he will work tirelessly to make sure Ohio is miserable each November, ND each September and Sparty...whenever we play Sparty that season? We all want to see Ohio's hopes and dreams crushed every season for no reason other than they're Ohio; I don't see any moral distinction between wishing misery on the football teams mentioned in this paragraph and wishing the same on PSU.
Free speech has nothing to do with your own individual right to pass judgment on someone's opinions. It's about the government regulation of speech. If he disagrees with their thoughts and finds it contemptable then why wouldn't he hope that they lose? Who cares? Give it a rest already. He's rooting for them to lose football games, not get tarred and feathered.
How about 1-11 every year, with a win over OSU?
I think I could get behind that. Also, I don't think fielding a poor team or wishing it on another team is "punishment".
Sounds like territory for an Obama joke - if that was allowed on this site of course
Will you feel better for the victim? Everyone there respnsible is either fired or gone. Therefore your misplaced anger is directed only at people who had nothing whatsoever to do with what happened.
that is all.
didn't care about the victims? Um, ok. That's your opinion, all the best to you.
Penn State is on a roll and just landed a big time QB in Christian Hackenberg. They are looking real good right now for Breneman.
Why can't they tell us the day before. Now I will have to keep checking back on here to see if there is any updated info. Curse you March 9th, we have 8 days until we battle.
I haven't seen you in a while...
Weirdest thing happened, I got a job I actually like/love and suddenly I no longer spend all day on mgoblog.
Whats the job?
I left the practice of law to work in the music industry (on the business side), which had always been my goal. Night and day in terms of happiness.
Good for you. Are you running a production studio or are you even more into the business side than that?
Yeah it's either PSU or OSU
4* to Scout and Rivals, #22 overall to rivals. He would be a massive pull for UM. I'll admit I'm not too well informed on his recruitment, do we lead? Early decision dates are generally good things for potential UM commits, especially with us only wanting one more TE, but if another school leads then it really doesn't matter.
We're not even in his final 4/5.
Well there we go. I'm actually happy to see him go to PSU if that's where he chooses; any competition for OSU is a good thing and the B1G is better when PSU is good. Not to mention I'm very happy with our current TE class.
In someone's defense... although I'm not sure whose... if we're not even in his final 4 or 5, then it begs the question: Why even create a post about it? Or why not at least label it OT?
Because TomVH tweeted he was going to announce March 9th. I knew we had been pursuing him, and he's the #1 TE in the class. He also chats with Shane on twitter quite often. It wasn't until after I posted, TomVH said his final 4 included ND, Ohio, Penn St, and Maryland.
Go join Diggs at Maryland.
But you can't read the above posts before asking that question?
When I started making my comment there were 0 comments, once I posted 4 others had already beaten me to the punch.
Everyone thinks PSU, but he did just visit OSU and really liked it.
Michigan no longer in the running. We're figuring on Matsuka or Orndoff at this point to be the 3rd and final TE.
That's what he said?
Rather see them strengthen their program a bit than see OSU land the #1 TE recruit in the country.
The Michigan ramification here is that if OSU misses on Breneman, they may offer Matuska - a Columbus kid that M seems to covet still. However, he seems to favor Notre Dame.
