Peppers at 10, which seems low.
Best of luck to him. Hope he can get his grades in order so we can beat him on the field.
I refuse to beleive this.
We'll get some stud WRs.
Well that is a suprise.
If the coaches really wanted to have this guy, they probably would.
Let's not get on the Sparty excuse train. We wanted him pretty badly (at least as fans), and the bottom line is he had an offer from our staff. Big get for them, on to the next one for us.
Yes. Sam Webb said Burbridge really liked Michigan, but MSU's been working on him really hard and he knew the Michigan situation was iffy (paraphrasing).
Wish him well.
Because of Conway in 2010 we can't take a flyer on another WR that may not make it to campus.
I was hoping he would go out-of-state, however, can't say I'm surprised that a kid from FHH would end up at MSU
Conway not coming did nothing to hurt our WR recruiting. Both Flowers and Lucien wanted to commit after Conway flamed out and Hoke turned them both down.
But that does raise an interesting question about how Conway is doing.
The coaches wanted him, and 24 other WRs, there's a difference. I would have liked his commitment, but he was the only top instate kid I thought sparty would land for a long time now. People got their hopes up for him months ago, but that's on them. It's okay to be disappointed, but the coaches were/are probably focused more on other targets they've offered. He's a good kid, but he might not qualify and the coaches are probably looking for more of a sure thing. Case in point, Hoke keeps offering more WR's, and other WRs are attending the BBQ.
I wanted AB, but not because we can't get a similar caliber WR, but to block MSU from getting a quality recruit. The great thing about us taking over Michigan recruiting and making inroads to Ohio, is that we are not only getting quality recruits, but taking players off of MSU and OSU's roster. Rich Rod might have gotten comparable talent, but they came from areas that didn't weaken our rivals.
Losing AB is not the same as Kyle Kalis leaving OSU however. With KK we took a great OL from OSU, that they are not going to be able to replace, and so that is a big win twice over. Losing AB means MSU got a great WR (potentially if he ever qualifies), but it doesn't mean we won't be able to replace him with the same caliber of WR, it just means we'll both be carrying an equal player. I like when you not only win, but it steals the ability of the other team to be competitive.
Let's go Ohio on him: say we really didn't want him anyway, call him a bunch of rude names, and then post about how he is going to change his mind by signing day.
sounds synonymous with going "sparty on someone"
What is the status with his grade situation? Did he still have an offer to UM? Can he qualify for MSU?
Grades still need work. Not sure if his UM offer was commitable right now. He'll qualify for both schools if he can meet the NCAA standards. When/if that happens is still unknown.
The NCAA clearinghouse isn't the only hurdle he has to jump. Michigan Admissions could deny him as well. Athletes that barely qualify under the NCAA still might not be admitted.
qualify for msu? is that an oxymoron?
There's plenty of other good WR targets out there, I'm not heartbroken by this. Plus, he may not actually ever qualify anyways. Is he still coming to the BBQ for free food? lol

Best of luck in to him ,sorry to see it not work out for UM.
Sounds like he was making some progress with his grades, so hopefully he got that all squared away. Good luck to him; hope he has a nice career, except for when he plays us.
4 years of ugly EL girls. poor dude
I loved me some UofM girls during my undergrad in Ann Arbor, but MSU girls were on average hotter than ours based purely on looks. And they were definitely sluttier. And not as smart. All of which are goods things when you are trying to take their virtue.
This sucks. He is going to be really good.
I can't act like I didn't really want him to go with the good guys, but best of luck to you kid!
right after committing to come to the BBQ.
For what it's worth, the rumor is he wanted us, the grades were always a problem, and the BBQ was a part of that. The staff (if the story is correct) wouldn't take his committment because of said grade problems, as with Pittman, and, as with Pittman, Burbridge turned to a school he felt wanted him.
That Pittman rumor needs to be put to bed. He plans to enroll early. He doesn't have the problems with grades that has been overblown.
IF he tried to commit to Michigan and was told he needed to get his academics in order it was the staff's way of nicely saying "Sorry but we're full up at your position."
That's an interesting take on what constitutes a polite refusal. "No, your grades are insufficient" sounds more tactful to you than "we have filled that position"? It's a rumor, for what it's worth. We don't know its verity. But then again, I imagine you don't know either.
That's exactly why I don't believe that rumor anyway. The facts don't add up to him needing to get his grades in order.
I don't really even believe he tried to commit here but if he did (big IF) I'd say that the staff probably straight up told him they were full up. The whole grades things is probably some disgruntled Michigan fan's way of saying he isn't good enough to go here which simply isn't true.
Again, I don't know or pretend to know, but questions about Pittman's grades were circulating around the Scout message board long (and if I understand it, the OSU boards as well) long before he signed on with MSU. So it was not out of the blue. Likewise with Burbridge, whose grades were the subject of frequent debate for a long, long while now. talking about it might constitute a case of sour grapes, but not so blatant as to emerge from nothingness. I suppose we'll find out the right of it when they do or do not qualify.
I think you mean voracity.
No. Verity means truth, from the Latin "veritas," which is what I mean to indicate. Voracity refers to the quality of being voracious, as in hungry, insatiable, etc. You're probably thinking of veracity, rather than voracity, which indicate the quality or habit of accuracy.
None of what you wrote has been verified.
It was a joke, as in "unverified voracity"...
a very encyclopedic clarification of lexical distinction, my good sir! however, the aforementioned suggestion to utilize the word "voracity" is, in fact, an allusion to a long-standing jocularity within the mgoblog community.
While grades may have been an issue with Burbridge and why didn't push for the commitment earlier when he really liked us, that is not the case with Pittman. Pittman's coach even confirmed in an interview that UM told Pittman that we were full on his position, and thus cooled. We have Roh, Black, Beyer, and Brown and Mario committed earlier. I really don't believe it was grades.
That's a really good point but I would guess that the vast majority of people that graduate early also have pretty good grades. A person driven to graduate early is probably also driven to perform pretty well in classes. If by chance Pittman is finishing early with subpar academics he is probably in the minority by a long shot. However, there is still that chance.
I'm sorry, but I can't wish anyone going to State best of luck.
Only things I wish for Mr. Burbridge are the best of health and butter fingers on Saturdays!
He's obviously not coming to the BBQ now. I said this on Twitter, this is a good get for them, but Michigan has a chance to get a good one soon too.
The bringer of the cryptic silver lining.
for such strange timing, right after saying he was coming to the BBQ. Seems like we might have 1 (or 2) locked up already
I know Dwayne and Adolphus have been quiet with summer ball going on, but does this help us at all, with Stanford?
Seems like it helps us more with Darboh than Stanford. He seems to have been cooling on us for a while, while things with Darboh are heating up. IIRC Darboh said he wanted to make his decision fairly soon.
If it gives an obvious boost with someone, I'd say it was Madaris, who was enthused by the Michigan offer at once and with whom MSU was thought to have the strongest lead.
Yep, Darboh and maybe even Monty Madaris.
do you mean a wideout or just a commit in general?
Fine with me, plenty of other good recievers in the mix
But it's still July. We'll see how things play out.
Good get for Sparty, and best of luck to him in the future.
I was never as high on Burbridge as a lot of folks around here, mostly due to the grade situation. People can definitely change and get their acts together, but if he's struggling that much to qualify academically out of high school, it seems like he'd just be more attrition waiting to happen if we actually got him to Ann Arbor.
With that said, I foresee no academic complications for him at MSU.
A fantastically elegant and accurate statement here...right down to the final thought on Sparty.
This message is approved by me.
Dang. Really was hoping he'd go blue. Hope he gets his grades in order, it'd be a shame to waste an opportunity like this.
I hope he has a really good academic career, gets his degree, marries a nice girl and leads a happy life.
And that's pretty much the end of my good tidings.
Well, I hope that he meets some nice girl, she takes him out for a nice seafood dinner and never calls him again!
is a saint!
Is this situation a possibiliy?
Michigan would not accept his committment until Februaryish when they knew for sure if his grades were in order. MSU was willing to take him now so he commits there. In Februaryish if his grades are in order, Michigan can now take his committment and he joins his teammates in Ann Arbor?
Nope. We'll have another WR committed at that point.
So we are not taking two WR for sure?
It's because this is Michigan. It just is.
I doubt we take 35 commits this year...
It's actually quite possible M wouldn't take his commitment at this point since his academics are in doubt. I assume he figures we won't have WR spots left for him.
Per RCMB Hoke is lying to all recruits about playing time and then hard-selling them to commit early.
Maybe AB is too smart for Hoke's trickery.
Good Luck to you son....... now C'mon down Monty Madaris!!
I like his upside a lot, tough break for the good guys. I agree with others though, if his grades were better, he would have probably committed months ago when Funchess did.

I'm all for interesting ways to commit, but facebook? Come on, man.
I imagine Mario and Funchess 'dislike' his post.
Richardson committed via Twitter if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe, but he committed to Michigan. Totally acceptable.
why not? somewhat refreshing to see one who doesn't feel he needs a press conference with a row of hats
Not sure why this is a surprise - with the season MSU had, they should be getting some quality guys. I question why they are not getting more. The answer is perhaps that no matter what, it will always be difficult to convince a lot of quality guys to play for MSU.
WIth the success MSU had this past year we all were expecting a major battle with MSU for the recruits in MIchigan. Once Hoke started the smack down a couple months back it started to feel is if we would get any recruit we wanted. I guess that is why i feel the disapointment. Either way we lost a good one and we still need a good WR in this class.
Darn, would have really liked the whole Harrison trio to go blue. Would have been a good way to put to rest some of this 'Spartan pipeline' talk. Best wishes to this guy (except when playing against us).
Gardner or Morris throwing to him, we know that much
Does that mean he wont be visiting now ?
TomVH "He's obviously not coming to the BBQ now. I said this on Twitter, this is a good get for them, but Michigan has a chance to get a good one soon too"
pretty sure his invitation has been rescinded
we dont know the detials of either of those guys' cases, dont knock on them or MSU without knowing the full story. AB got his test scores in order and aced summer school, he was on pace to qualify. And we have taken a couple players the last few year that haven't qualified.....
"And we have taken a couple players the last few year that haven't qualified....."
Reliable sources have said this is not something the current regime wants to do. Before a kid commits, they want to be certain he's in good academic standing.
I think i would rather have Jordan payton
And i would rather have DB-G. Does not always work that way.
M is in on at least couple WR's as good or better than Burbridge. And, given the recent past, M shouldn't hold spots for guys with academic issues, especially given all the other viable candidates.
Also, who the hell will MSU's next QB be? I don't think a kid would choose to play with some no-name QB over Devin/Shane.
Maxwell was an Elite 11 guy and will be a junior in 2012, he should be more than adequate, but they're pretty well hosed if he gets injured.
Andrew Maxwell is MSU's next QB. He was a 4*, Elite 11 QB in high school... so not exactly a no-name. After that they have Connor Cook and Tyler O'Connor... neither was/is as highly regarded as Maxwell, but they both had pretty decent BCS offers.
Darboh and Payton. Both listed an inch taller than Burbridge according to Scout. Any of those 3 is fine by me! If that matters to anybody....
MSU now has 2 out of the top 10 in the state, while we have 6, with a possibility of 1 more. Wow, they're burning it up on the trail this year, so jealous!!
I'm glad that all his hard work to get his grades up paid off for him. I think a major factor in his decision was he knew that once he qualified, it would be easier for him to stay academically eligible at MSU instead of UM. Good luck AB, I'd hate to be you coming across the middle with our headhunters looking to lay you out
Correct. Best of luck to the kid but he's 6'1'' so I'm assuming he'll be in the slot. He may regret the decision when he is forced to deal with Biggs, RJS, and Mr. Ringer.
I don't see what the problem is with accepting a guy who has borderline grades as long as you keep recruiting other guys and make it clear that you are doing just that. With Stanford off the board, we needed this guy. Right now, our 2013 receiving corps consists of the following:
Rodriguez slot midgets
hypothetical true freshmen who have yet to commit
Jerald Robinson (?)
MSU has the same qualifications standards for athletes as we do. A guy who doesn't qualify at UM won't qualify at MSU either, and it's not like they need receivers desperately and we don't. If he commits to you and he doesn't qualify, then you have lost nothing, unless you turned away quality guys to make room for him. It's not like you have to honor the commitment if he doesn't qualify.
You'd have to turn guys away to hold a spot for him, because signing day is before school is out. It's a calculated risk, one MSU can afford to take. And I'm not so sure the standards for the two schools are completely equal. By NCAA definition, yes. But while we take an occasional chance, we're a bit more risk adverse than most. It's like how we COULD take Juco players, but rarely do.
But that assumes Michigan won't land any other WRs this year, when they quite clearly will.
You forgot tacopants
Can anyone tell me his full offer list? Rivals only lists 6 schools but I have to imagine there were more
Since when does Dantonio recruit in state?
Just because your username is Webber's Pimp, gives you no right to call Ondre Pipkins, Ondre "Pimpkins"
I figured he was going to end up at MSU. Given his purported talent, he would have been offered by us already if there weren't academic or other issues.
He did have a Michigan offer...
Again..He didn't have a commitable offer people. How many times does it have to be said?
Yeah, cuz he hasn't been recruiting at all yet...
Why not wait to see what the coaches have to say at the BBQ. I hope this doesn't turn out to be another Jonathon Hankins situation where we slow play a talented instate kid who plays a huge position of need and ends up playing as a freshman for a hated rival (and yes I realize Hankins issue was not grade related)
Can't speak publicly about recruits until they sign an LOI. And they won't comment at all on this recruit if he signs an LOI w/MSU. Speculation will rule the day on this one.
I think Madaris might drop at the BHBBQ. I don't see him going to MSU and ND seems to have other guys they are waiting on. Madaris and Burbridge seem interchangable to be and I'd be just as happy with Monte.
I really wanted Burbridge, but I thought he recently mentioned that UM was not recruiting him aggressively. Maybe it was acedemic concerns, maybe it was something else the coaching staff didn't like. I also wanted Lucien last year, but what do I know....
hope he does well and makes it in. Was really hoping he'd come to M
if you preferred him over payton, then i can understand but that is who tom is referring to.
Congrats to him, hopefully he'll be able to get his eligibility worked out. Next!
Interestingly, Rivals has him listed as a "Soft Verbal".
Anyway, this is disappointing, but good luck to him.
...allow me to reinterpret this news as if (1) Aaron had been an OSU target and (2) it was being reported on Bucknuts:
"Burn in Hell Burbitch! Traitor! I always knew that kid was no good, ever since five minutes ago, when he committed to another school. Doesn't matter, I heard from my uncle's brother's roomate's best friend that Dorial Green Beckham is all Scarlet & Gray. sCum blows! Tressel for AD!!!!!"
That is all
good for him. Hope he gets his grades in order, and wish him luck outside of UM game.
no BBQ meat for AB
Good luck to him at MSU, I wish him the best (except for when he's playing UofM, of course). I hope we can pull in one or two equally talented receivers.
to Aaron Burbridge and congrats to MSU on keeping him in-state.
On the other hand, the season is long and if Michigan gets on a roll, Sparty tanks and Aaron gets his grades up you never know what might happen.
Good god, that sounds exactly like MSU and OSU. Please don't sink to their level.
I thought it was a very reasonable comment.
"Anytime you beat out OSU, ND, UofM, etc. it sends a message nationally that MSU WILL stay atop the B1G for years to come"
Love to have had him, a nice get for the Spartans (assuming he makes it to campus). But we really wanted him to keep the recruiting avalanche crushing MSU going. If AB changed his mind in time, we'd take him back. But recruiting is a numbers game, and we'll have our numbers. We just wanted to take one away from Sparty.
I would have loved to get Burbridge because he's a great WR, but the reason he was number one for me was because we would have taken him from MSU. That would have been sweet.
Scout is reporting that MSU also gets a commit from OH DB Jermaine Edmondson today. He also had offers from Illinois, Nebraska, Purdue, Louisville, and the MAC.
I would have loved to see him in the winged helmet, damn. Only soy dogs and veggie burgers for you, Burbridge! Don't even look at the cheese either...
Howeva, this weekend might just provide oppurnunity for another...hmmm!
Payton make it for the bbq.
FWIW: Take it from a two time grad, MSU is a pretty good school with good people, but it definitely doesn't carry the weight of Michigan. Not even a contest. Living out of state for 8 years, you'd be surprised how many people would assume Michigan when I said Michigan State. Outsiders who aren't into sports don't know Michigan State generally. Michigan is all they know, everybody knows it, and it has real power. It is truly a global degree.
For the purposes of AB's committment, my point is pretty meaningless. It's a big choice for a kid, and he won't suffer by graduating with a Michigan State degree at all, except for the opportunity cost of it not being a Michigan degree. Plus they are in a good place program wise thanks to that dorky Dantonio. Rest assured Michigan largely recruits itself. Over the long haul if Hoke keeps recruiting to this level, the program will win big if he and the staff are even moderately competent as coaches
wake me up
on signing day
gah double post
but still. it seems with this many major recruits commiting early to various schools the dominos could fall on signing day
