Nice article up at AA.com about Hoke's impact on the SDSU football team and its culture, highlighting Lindley and Hillman's comments.

people probably already know this, but i hadn't realized it until i saw the 15-22 number in the article. people who played 2008-2011 went from 15-22 to 26-24 after last season. who'd have thought they'd get to leave with a winning record?
I'm happy that they were in the first group of seniors in a few years to beat Ohio.
That is a pretty good article and keeps with the theme of things you hear about Hoke. I still laugh about not being sure about the Hoke hire. Most wanted Harbaugh, myself included. What you need and what you want are usually not one in the same. Michigan got who they needed with Hoke and man am I glad we did.
Care to explain why?

The fact that you would take the time to neg a post about an article about Hoke's time at his former school just because you've anointed yourself some sort of semi-official scold about points is sort of sad and pathetic.
We went through this when you got mad everytime someone negged TomVH - you got over it. You'll get over this too.

It was winter break - students were on vacation.
IIRC, they were still on break, and he didn't have time to wait for them to come back during the height of the recruiting season, obviously.

in my circle, who really care about Michigan football, and its tradition, were thrilled about the B. Hoke hiring. Many people who wanted Harbaugh failed to see his enormous amount of arrogance, and just affiliated it with the spirit of Michigan football. I remember getting emotional when it was announced that Brady Hoke was being hired. I recall my new wife , who is a fan of me, being so thrilled that i was finally happy, and confident in the direction my school was going. So my cool story bro was, that in one season i acquired a great wife and a great coach for my football team. The best part is that when she reads Brady Hoke articles, she beams with pride like i do, because she was part of the process so to speak..Go Blue

It's impressive that the SDSU players are still raving about Hoke after he left for another job. That often doesn't happen. It speaks very well of him as a person.
Don for bringing the news. But, my problem is who or why would any body neg your post for this article???
This piece about Hoke confirms something I think many of us know, which is how much he cares for his players. During senior day, you could see how much affection there was between player and coach, and yup, even a few kisses. I personally found it extremely touching.
This was a good read, and it underscores just how far a cultural transformation like the one Hoke brought to the progam can go in conjunction with recruiting, training, practice and everything else that is core to what goes on over at Schembechler.
I think we should also compliment the players for sticking with and being accepting of this particular manner of cultural change, because it isn't easy for very many people to navigate such things (twice in their careers, in the case of many seniors) and I still remember being leery of players perhaps exiting in the wake of this change about this time last year.
The fact that Hoke can institute a "hostile takeover", if you will, and do so in such a way that players from his previous job still speak this highly of him says much about the man and the impression he makes, and in the case of SDSU, leaves. This alone tells you how much he cares about the players.
The reasons I negged this linked post:
1: Most of it is old news - more traffic for aa.com, may be? Besides, another thread was already deleted a few minutes ago about the same thing.
2: I hate people tried to spin the wheel on Hoke's "mass text" farewell to his players. Most of them were out of town and the time did not permit him to say goodbye to each individual. This has been well published and still some people, including some quite "senior" mgousers, are still failing to understand the circumstances;
3: it is a personal freedom to express our opinions, in spite of how silly it may be - fair enough?
Now go back to root for the MBB team.
The article was initially posted at AA.com this morning. I scanned the board and diaries to make sure it was not already up, and there was nothing. If there had been, I wouldn't have posted it. Why would it have been deleted? Even if it is repetitive information, it would hardly be the first time a rehash article is posted.
As far as having a personal freedom to express your opinion, where did I say you didn't have that? The fact is that you DIDN'T express your opinion until I inquired. Merely entering a neg isn't an opinion worth the term; it explains nothing about what you think and why. Now I know.
I didn't know, or had forgotten, about the exact circumstances of Hoke's departure from SDSU, but now I'm informed. Thanks.

There was a thread created earlier that linked to the same AA.com article. Within a few minutes it was negged by several people (including me) and deleted by the mods because the OP focused on the old news part of the story (that Hoke informed his SDSU players he was leaving by texting), and the poster said something to the effect that he was surprised because he expected better from Hoke. So, yeah, it linked to the same article, but the OP did neither the article nor Hoke justice by highlighting just the old news part of the story.
Well, I think we all have learned a lesson here.

This is what stands out from the article:

It's the same thing I've been hearing all year from the players. I love it. Please keep winning and please never leave.
I didn't know that Hoke coached the punters. Isn't that Dan Ferrigno's job as the special teams coach?
Great post. Would have missed it if you hadn't posted it and I never tire of reading about how Hoke genuinely cares for his players.
Don't let the neg bangers get to you. There's a lot of negativity in this world that doesn't even warrant acknowledging it.
This is the goal of every great coach: to be respected and loved by your players.
While aa.com is most definitely a UM cheerleader, I believe this article is actually true and this is who Hoke is, and I'm damn proud to be a Michigan fan.
Back in December, when it was clear that RR was going to be fired, I started researching all of the "candidates" that seemed to make sense. I started with Harbaugh, because I thought he was my favorite and that he wanted the job. I quickly learned that I didn't want Harbaugh to get the job, because I believed his heart was in the NFL. I turned out to be right.
Then I started researching Miles. It didn't take long before I was pretty sure he was shady, and that I didn't want him at U of M either.
Patterson and Fitzgerald had no Michigan ties. Both seem like pretty good coaches, but not good enough that I wanted them to coach at Michigan. They're proven coaches, but so was Rich Rod, and the last thing we needed was another good coach with no understanding of what Michigan means.
I researched Hoke last. This is back in December, mind you, when his name was just a whisper in the coaching search. I was skeptical. SDSU and Ball State? Then I read more. Then I watched interviews. By January, I was convinced Hoke was the best option. But I still wasn't sure how good he'd be.
The Whitlock article helped, and so did the press conference. Then he got Mattison, to go with Borges, and rounded out a nice staff. Then he had a 10-win sesason and beat ohio.
And with all the success, what I like the most, is that he is a man of integrity who commands respect, but also loves his players. If he keeps Mattison and Borges or comparably-skilled coordinators around, I believe he will be the best coach in Michigan history. Not just for wins or X's and O's, but for the men his program produces. He's the kind of coach every good coach wants to be.
