I don't know why, but the "HALOL" abbreviation really annoys me.  As far as the big guy, seems like a longshot since he wants to go to a place with a history of big men and feeding the post, but he would certainly qualify as an impact big that we could use on this team.

Definitely a big kid. I wish the highlight video would have shown a little more of his game. I like that he can dunk and rebound, but I want to see his shooting ability and how well he can run the floor. He looks like he would be a prospect, but I would like to see him come to Michigan because we need the size down low with someone that can block and rebound (not knocking on Morgan or anyone else).

That could be one of the funniest recruiting videos I've ever seen.  It was like they simply re-did the same play 20 times and had the opposing players change jerseys between takes.  Kid catches ball.  Kid does/does not dribble once.  Kid goes up and gets hacked.  Kid dunks.  Kid turns around and runs to other end of court.  Opponents look dejected.

If the kid has a jump hook he instantly becomes a top 5 NBA draft pick. Looks more Todd McCullogh than Rik Smits if you as me.

You just never know what you're going to get injury-wise with a guy this size. I'm only 6'7" and I have a myriad of physical issues that doctors have told me exist only because I'm so big. Your body simply takes a pounding with all the weight that comes solely from being tall.

This guy is probably going to have to redshirt, than come off the bench for a year before he starts to get real playing time. One thing to take away from his highlight tape is that every basket is a dunk, because he's 2 feet taller than everyone else. That's why scout only has him as a 3-star.

This kid is no where near as polished as Fab Melo is for Syracuse, and he can barely get playing time right now.  This kid is a solid prospect and I think the 3 star is justified given the limited video evidence.  I think a redshirt year would do wonders for this kid in rounding out his game and getting used to the physical abilities that college players have that a 6'3" HS player doesn't.

I don't go along with the reasoning that says, "7' 4"? Must have!" (Not sure if the OP was saying this or not -- but many people do.)

A lot of seven-footers are stiffs.  For example, compare the number of seven-footers taken in the first round of the NBA draft and the number that actually get more than token minutes in the league.  This shows that being really big and succeeding on one level does not guarantee success at the next level.

If this guy can play, and if he can fit into what Beilein wants to do on both offense and defense, then I hope Michigan gets him.  But Michigan does not need any old aircraft carrier just because it's great to get a good aircraft carrier.

but he doesnt have to be a superstar, all he has to do is play a role with this team.

Furthermore, he isn't just a seven footer. He's 7-foot-FOUR!!!  Watch anyone play Illinois and see how much trouble they have with Tisdale, who isn't even very good despite being 7 feet tall.

Then consider that at the college level, many teams' centers barely sniff 6'10.  This gives you a potential 6 inch height advantage at the 5 every night!

Part of Tisdale's problem is that he is so thin he can still be pushed around to some degree. I believe there was a BTN or ESPN special on him at some point regarding his difficulty putting on and keeping on weight. He ate some ridiculous number of calories per day in the special and he's still a twig. I don't think Bhullar is the same situation at all, as he mentions in his interview that he needs to cut some fat and build muscle. When this guy gets into a college weight room, he'll improve a lot.

I'd love to see him work with Bacari at Michigan. I don't see it happening, though. Sounds like the kid wants to be in an offense where he can get the ball early and often. Not that Michigan can't do that for him, but he may look at our offense and see too many three balls being put up. He could also look at Morgan's dominance a few games back and be impressed, though, so I guess we'll have to see how this plays out.

Ok... OMG !!!!! this is the guy... read my diary about being one big man recruit away from being a major program again  Men's Basketball Team, by Leaps and Bounds   http://mgoblog.com/diaries/mens-basketball-team-leaps-and-bounds

If we land this kid, you will in short order, see the program return to greatness, and the national spotlight will be BLINDING.    We gotta get this guy.

"We gotta get this guy."  Sheesh.

This is what I'm talking about above.  This is that attitude that the Knicks had when they drafted Frederic Weis.  "He's really big! He has a skill! He's unstoppable!"

And then this happened.

I'm not saying this guy is the next Frederic Weis.  But let's make sure he's not a stiff before deciding that he alone is the key to returning Michigan to the top of the Big Ten.

You know, Frederic Weis would have been damn good in college.  The standards for "we gotta get this guy" in college are far lower than in the pros.  A talentless 7'4 guy can be a great weapon in college even if he would suck in the NBA.  Exhibit A:  Thabeet goes on.

I wish everyone on this board realized how few freshmen actually redshirt in college basketball. If the kid doesn't get injured, he isn't going to redshirt. Especially if he comes here!

But Blake McLimans and Jordan Morgan did redshirt.  It just comes down to how much proven depth you have.  We entered this season with literally no experienced players over 6'5". so Beilein couldn't be sure what he had.  If he could do it over, he may have redshirted Christian.  Horford has proven valuable enough to play.

My point was that it is very rare. Last year we only had 1 guy over 6'5 so we obviously needed big men. Us redshirting 1 let alone 2 guys last year is amazing.....you just don't see it, but there was a reason you did. Morgan was injured and mclimans just isn't that good. I get that redshirting helps out a lot, but with the amount of scholarships a team gets, you can't afford to redshirt. Just think how much better we could have been with Morgan getting minutes last year. Not in the wins column, but in the "rest peedi" column. Novak wouldn't have been forced to guard 6'8 power forwards.

I get that you think redshirting happens often because we didn't rush a kid back from surgery and didn't play a 6'10 150 pound kid so both of them redshirted, but you're wrong. Redshirting freshmen in football is easy as you have 85 scholarships and 22 starters. In basketball you don't get that luxury. You just don't see it often, especially 2 in the same season. Even a project like a 7'4 center is going to see the floor on pretty much any team he goes to barring injury, especially a Michigan team in need of big men. I would love to see him come here and redshirt, but it ain't gonna happen.

and actually being in playing shape are not the same thing.

My original statement wasn't really that hard to comprehend.  The surgery caused him to miss pre season work outs and the recovery time kept him from competing at full speed until after the season had started.  Burning his red shirt for 1/2 a season of spot minutes would have been ridiculous.
