24 hrs. is up. Time to look ahead to EMU - What are your hopes for next week

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on
Beyond winning obviously, what are your hopes for the EMU game. For me: 1) As much rest as possible for the dinged up players. 2) Getting some playing time and confidence for some of these backup d-backs and maybe Will Campbell. 3) Letting Shoelaces get a chance to establish his throwing game so other teams won't automatically assume run when he gets in the game. 4) Keep everyone healthy!

everything that I was going to say: DR needs to get some reps in the passing offense so teams will have to respect that. More reps for our 2-3 deeps, expecially in the secondary. Get the game in hand so we can rest. No injuries.

Well apart from those four, I would like to see a dominant first half like that against western. It is important not to get complacent in a game like this. Eastern played a close game to Northwestern on Saturday 24-27, so we must come out eager to extinguish all hope from the beginning. Also our defense needs to redeem itself after last week. Despite the win we got dominated on defense. These things need to happen to allow your 4 wishes to happen.

Good thoughts. Concur with the extinguish all hope early thought v. EMU. A big early lead and a comfortable win would provide opportunities for the four things listed above to take place. I think the trick is to take it one game at a time (ie not worry about State or even IU yet). I also have concerns about the D, but one silver lining in the D performance is that we won't see an offense like ND's for a while.

I've been impressed by out D the last two games. We dominated Western, and did a good job against what I consider a top 10 offense with two of the best receivers around. We held the running game in check, applied pretty good pressure, and Warren played like a michigan shutdown corner should. He'll eat up every guy he has to cover the rest of the year. Better tackling, smart formations, and good adjustments. I'd like to see the D shut down EMU and IU like we did against Western.

I want to see a lot of DRob, Roundtree, Campbell, Vlad, and Turner, Stokes, and Vincent Smith. Basically all the freshman. I assume Gallon is redshirting?

Basically what everyone else is saying: get the young guys that are not red-shirting some meaningful game reps and have a convincing win.

I'll say the score will be 48-10. The backups should get a lot of experience and we should see more from young players like Denard Robinson, Vincent Smith, Will Campbell, and Justin Turner who haven't been able to get much playing time thus far.

After we find out who's not playing and for how long, we need to 1. Get significant time for DRob PASSING and less running 2. Big Will plugging up the interior defensive line, need some bulk there. 3. Run DRob in the slot, can't have that kind of speed on the sidelines 4. Lots of work for BC at corner, he seemed overmatched(Tate and Floyd are great, but still). 5. Work on the new holding rules.

I will be at the game (the only one at the Big House this year) and while I have been there a few times in the past, it is the first time my wife and daughter will be there. I guess I just want them to score about 90 points so it leaves a lasting impression on them.

A win and no injury to Tate. Not to be overly negative, but right now most people here are slightly over-hyping this team. Right now we are 1 qb injury away from a disaster of a season and the team is still young. I just want 1 win at a time, no matter how ugly the score is.

I would agree with pretty much the same sentiments as everyone else. In addition I'd like to see the kicking game firmed up. Olesnavage needs some more game time experience. He had the one miss yesterday and even on a few of the extra points it looked a bit shaky. Hopefully he gets most of his experience on extra points but it would be nice to have a few more field goals under his belt when the games are expected to be closer.

Correct me if I'm wrong but he has zero this year (obviously a lot of that comes from getting double teamed and having teams decide 4 holding penalties a game are better than 4 sacks). Still, a nice 3 sack first half would be nice to see...
