2018 Night Game

Submitted by jimmyshi03 on

So by rule, Michigan has to play three night games at home over two years. With today's news about the Minnesota game, that means just one game at night next year. Home schedule is as follows:

9/8- Western Michigan

9/15- SMU

9/22- Nebraska

10/6- Maryland

10/13- Wisconsin

11/3- Penn State

11/17 - IU

Just a guess, but I'd rank the likelihood of a night game at - UW, PSU, Nebraska, especially for a network game. Outside shot at Maryland or SMU as a BTN game.

Also, I'd guess that both Notre Dame and MSU will be night games next year, or perhaps Northwestern.

We are a freaking head case for Notre Dame.

We are the awkward teenage girl with glasses and braces who had an unrequited crush on Notre Dame . . . then grew up to be smoking hot.

We don't need Notre Dame for anything, but we just can't seem to get our heads around that fact.

The ND game still generates national interest. I believe the 2011 game against ND was in the top 3 for most watched games at the end of the season. Part of that could have been a curiously factor since it was the first home night game for Michigan but that is still pretty impressive.

They weren't "given" anything.

They paid a gazillion dollars to the Big Ten, of which Michigan gets a big chunk.

Now they *gasp* want some return for all that $$$.

Don't want to be on their TV shows, don't take their money.

Wisconsin and Penn State should be noon games. Play Nebraska at night, it would be a good draw, their fans are generally nice, and we should stomp them. Maryland would be the second choice.

It will almost certainly be PSU. I hope it is, too. Bring that douchey Trace and his douchey jump shot celebration back here so we can whoop his ass again.

Really? A kid who looks like he's 5'5 on a good day playing in a gimmick offense?

I'll give him credit where credit is due in that he is a great college QB, but my money says that he will never be an NFL QB. For a guy his size, all it takes is one hit from JJ Watt on his blindside to end his career. He's not built to consistently take those kinds of hits from an NFL DL.

Also, from what I understand Moorhead brought an extremely simple offense to Penn State. An effective one, for sure. But simple. Maybe ~10 base plays total. Is McSorely going to be able to command an extremely different and far more complex NFL playbook? Again, he's not a guy like Cam Newton or Marcus Mariota who played in those systems, but had amazing physical attributes to fall back on.

He looks like a guy who might get a shot in the league if he converts to a slot wideout. Amendola, Hogan, Edelman, all relatively undersized guys who've found success with limited athleticism. But as a QB? Doubt it.

We could possibly have five night games this year. My sources inside the Maryland athletic department are saying they are preparing for the Michigan game to be a night game and I would assume Wisconsin will be one too since we are the only ranked team on their schedule all year. Not sure if they've hosted a home one yet though

Maryland and Wisconsin do not have the right to host night games against Michigan without our express approval.

We can veto either night game and likely would.

After the first weekend in November, for night games to be held in the Big Ten both the home and away school must agree to it. Before (and including) the first weekend of November, TV and/or the home team can assign game time.

but it's a one off that we have those particular East division teams at home.  In a less fortunate year in which we host Illinois and Purdue, it'll be...PSU as that's it for good games. It's just stupid that we played MSU in EL two years in a row such that they're now coinciding instead of offset.

can set game time for 1 game per season - Homecoming.  If school decides to have homecoming at night then would it count as one of the 3 night games for the 2 seasons?

Assuming Wisconsin is highly ranked they'd probably go with that. A revenge game against Penn State would be nice. Nebraska would be alright, too, but who knows how they'll be.

Both games when it's not usually freaking cold out and interesting match-ups.

As I'm going to the Minny game this year, would have preferred the 330 kickoff (have to drive 2 hrs) but will manage. Be drunk early and often and then Coke Zero on the way home :>)
