hackett is too smart to make the OSU game at night
February 1st, 2015 at 2:20 PM ^
I'm under the impression that November night games are prohibited in the B1G.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:37 PM ^
That impression is 100% wrong
February 1st, 2015 at 3:27 PM ^
No way either of those games is at night. Thought the Big Ten has a rule about no night games in November. As far as MSU, that strikes me as a piss poor idea. That's a lot of time for a lot of alcohol and bad blood to mix. That has the absolute potential to be a straight up disaster.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:39 PM ^
Sparty played them this season. Also, if Bama and Auburn can play at night, we could survive a night game against them in Ann Arbor.
February 1st, 2015 at 4:47 PM ^
But I think traditionally it's kind of been the conference's conventional wisdom to not play November night games, due to the potential for freezing temperatures. But it happened this season twice. Ohio State had Illinois at home at night on Nov 1, and Michigan State played Ohio State at home at night on Nov 8. I think from here on out we'll see more night games in November, though. If the Mountain West doesn't have a problem with it, when you have teams like Boise State and Air Force playing late night games in single digit weather, then the Big Ten should not, either.
February 1st, 2015 at 8:45 PM ^
It's an unwritten "Bo" rule... Bo could tell ABC to eff off and they would listen.
February 1st, 2015 at 4:46 PM ^
The Big Ten does not have any rule about November night games. The rule did exist at one time (up until ~2009, IIRC), but not anymore. Conference TV arrangements make it difficult, apparently, but not impossible. I'm not sure how the Big 10 does things differently in that regard than other conferences, but that's apprently the deal.

Didn't Msu play osu at night in November this year????

Can't imagine a bigger statement for Harbaugh than beating State in a night game. Idk about OSU at night but I'm not against it.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:20 PM ^
I'd rather both be at 3:30, but if I had to choose one, I'd pick MSU to be the night game because of the very reason you just stated.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:38 PM ^
Ohio state is the ONLY game I want to be played at noon. I prefer 3:30 or night for every other game though.

Both wouldn't be the best idea. Alcohol and fans equal bad decisions
February 1st, 2015 at 2:22 PM ^
if the rest of the country can handle rivalry night games, I'm not sure why UM can't handle it.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:22 PM ^
I think there are studies and numbers out there that disprove this theory. I think there's a higher number of altercations and public intoxication but nothing that would make a night game vs a rival a 100% no no.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:22 PM ^

If Auburn and Alabama can have their game at night I think we could manage with MSU.

that would be the concern....but we are in the majority

Everybody else does it and the world's still turning.

Alcohol and fans is a reality no matter what time the game is on. Also, grow a pair.

Prime time baby
February 1st, 2015 at 2:27 PM ^
A late November night game? And THAT one, in particular? Nope. Ain't gonna happen.
My bet would be MSU here, for sure.
I thought initially that it might be BYU or Oregon State. Although, sure...when you say "Michigan vs. Michigan State, UNDER ALL THE LIGHTZ!" it does carry a bit more of the "oooh/ahhh" factor than, say, either of the latter two.
Oregon State, though, would mean a night game home opener, which would be (kinda) cool.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:29 PM ^
Are you suggesting there is a rule against November night games? If so, there isn't one.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:32 PM ^
Can't be ^ , its past their curfew...
February 1st, 2015 at 2:28 PM ^
I'm totally OK with MSU at night. I actually think it would be a great atmosphere and probably the top prime time game that weekend.
Like everyone else in the world, no way to OSU. I'm not sure why that's ever even rumored or considered. I don't know anyone who would be happy with that.

i would enjoy OSU at night. Atleast a test run.
February 1st, 2015 at 8:13 PM ^
Do it down there. That game should be at noon in Ann Arbor.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:33 PM ^
Good night sparty. This would be a big statement game for Harbaugh if they play msu at night.
and I agree hell no to ohio at night. That game needs to always be played in daylight. I don't know why, it just does.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:44 PM ^
Could you imagine having to play in Columbus at night? Michigan vs. osu. Michigan fans would feel more safe walking the streets of Pyongyang than Columbus at night after we beat Ohio. Would be a full blown riot. Keep The Game during the day.

I'll level with you, the level of antagonizing from OSU to UM fans right now in Columbus is not nearly comparable to the 90s, day or night. The lunatic fringe is a lot more palatable when you're not kicking our ass every year.

This is more attributal to mandatory minimum and 3-strike sentencing guidelines.
That and I think Franklin County doesn't bond fans out for games anymore.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:32 PM ^
Of course its not. YCou guys don't have a reason to be so antagonistic...but a UM win in CBus at night pffft...all hell would break lose.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:36 PM ^
It will be MSU. Ohio is too late in the year, but what do I know.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:39 PM ^
Hackett seems to be too in tune with the fanbase and tradition to mess with OSU. The only conclusion here is that he is blatantly telling the knowledgeable fanbase that the MSU game will be at night in 2015.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
I, too, love the tradition of UM-OSU, but could you imagine a matchup like 2006 played in prime time? Yes, please!
Obviously, the stakes would rarely be that high, but that would be something special.
February 1st, 2015 at 2:44 PM ^
Both please!

LSU and Alabama do it every year. Auburn and Alabama have done it a ton recently.
I hate using this argument as it makes no sense. Other rivals do it every year and they seem to come out of it just fine. Will we need extra security? Yeah probably. But who cares? It's a night game and gives Harbaugh a chance to show his team off in prime time, potentially make a statement win as well.

And all of those schools are doing it in locales that don't have a good chance of snow and/or frostbite for a night game. But, OK.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:38 PM ^
I'm pretty sure if you're attending a night game between Michigan and MSU/OSU you have a good idea how to dress for the cold weather.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:43 PM ^
a night game is ever pulled off in Green Bay with snow and frost bite worries.
February 1st, 2015 at 3:50 PM ^
Wow. You are VERY concerned about the cold. Stay home. The other 113,000 won't miss you.

February 1st, 2015 at 4:55 PM ^
and believe me, it can get just as cold at night here in November than anywhere else. Throw on 3-4 layers, a hoodie, a beanie (balaclava if it's that bad), some gloves, and 2-3 pairs of socks and you're good.
