2015 Home UTL

As a refresher, the great and powerful Hackett announced back in February that a home night game was being planned this season.

As of this writing, kickoff for BYU, MSU, Rutgers and OSU are TBA.

I'm liking the reasoning that, perhaps, it could be MSU this year.  How fun would that be?

EDIT: Stand corrected.  Missed the reversal announcement.

This is the problem with night games. This ridiculous thinking that night games at the Big House should only be against quality teams and made into an event. Teams all over the country play "normal" night games all the time. I don't understand why they have to be "special" in Ann Arbor.

Who wants to be one of the crowd? We're Michigan. The Big House, winged helmets, Hail to the Victors. And  if we do a night game (of which I am not a fan) make that special, too. I'd argue only the Domers rival Michigan football in terms of character, history, and distinction. Let's keep it that way.

Hold on, I thought David Brandon invented the concept of Night Games!

And I heard a rumor that Toys R Us will now be starting a new tradition of people giving toys as "Gifts" to children on Christmas Day - wow!  That David Brandon, what would we all do without him!

The argument that AA can't handle a night game of MSU v. UM is so dumb. 1. We have showed night games work here. 2. There have been MSU v. UM night games in EL. Other major rivalries have been at night for years. It is time. Bring MORK and company to town for a night game.

Thought he also said there's a good chance there won't be a night game this year. Or was that just something I heard the people who hate them spew?

why does ABC/ESPN get to dictate our schedule? I mean, besides the gobs of money they throw at us?

Although I have to admit that the 12 noon start works fine for me on the west coast. Roll out of bed, have some breakfast, watch the game, eat lunch. If we win, see what the next game is. If we lose, crank up the Smiths and wallow in misery for the rest of the weekend.

but that was the standard kickoff time back in the mid-70's  (when I started attending Michigan games) thru the mid 80's, except for the noon games vs. OSU.  I have no idea (without some research) when the last 1pm start was, but being from the western part of Michigan, I loved that start time.  We always made it into AA by 8 or 9 am, giving us plenty of tailgating/beer time, and the games were much faster back then with most of them not being televised.  That gave us plenty of time to either get back to K-Zoo for the nightlife there, or to party the late afternoon and night away in Ann Arbor.

Holy shit. Is everyone really so against night games? Not saying I want every game at night but one a year is more than reasonable. I'll grant you that playing three away games at night is a bit excessive, but it just means we are a big draw for most teams. The only thing I would be against is playing OSU and MSU at night. Keep the two chief rivals during the day. ND was a great night opponent. PSU, Wisky, and Nebraska are the best remaining night game opponents IMO. But I would still like one night game a year. It's a great atmosphere.
