2010 Opener w/ BCS Opponent
Evidently we'll know who in the next couple weeks:

Hey now
That's some big-ass news. When was our last OOC away game? Washington '02?
True, very exciting.
Also, I read your comment as "That's some big ass-news." (http://xkcd.com/37/)
Excellent running joke with some friends:
e.g.
1) Purdue's got a big-ass drum
2) Really? Tell me more about this "ass drum"
UW was 2001, Oregon was...2003 maybe?
Correct.
And I'm going to guess that 2010 will be Pittsburgh. They were on the rumored list last week or so, right?
It was.
Our last OOC away game was Notre Dame last year. Lol.
But, it is a good sign that the AD will schedule an away OOC game during a year ND is here.
That is great news. Any thoughts on who the team will be?
I would like to think that the 2010 opener will be the official launch of the ninja death-star that RR has been building (in addition to the obvious showcase of the renovated stadium).
Nice to hear that the AD is going after a legit opponent to do so.
Here's the list of opponents that have not filled Sept. 4 and have not filled all non-conf games for next year.
Arkansas
Georgia
Miss. St.
Ok. St.
Oregon St.
Pitt
Syracuse
Wazzou
While I'd love to see Georgia, I put my money on Ok. St.
Georgia is unlikely, for reasons already mentioned.
Syracuse and Wazzou are unlikely to be able to demand a home-and-home.
Agreed. I would say Ok. St, then Arkansas, then Pitt. I really don't see Miss. St. happening either.
the reason Georgia was unlikely was that they would require a home and home? That would be 2 great games I think.
Wasn't Oregon State having financial woes? Maybe they're the most likely to come for a one and done.
It's not a one and done. There will be a return game. Hence Home and Home.
Apologies, I hadn't clicked the link and was at a loss for a second. If it's a one and one with a BCS school (which excites the crap out of me, now) I'm hoping it's Georgia. Athens rocks.
I don't see much reason for it to be OK State. If we're going to go on the road to one of these schools, it has to be Georgia (big matchup), Pitt (recruiting hot bed), or Syracuse (been there before, some decent players come out of there (Mike Hart), "east coast" exposure). In my opinion at least...
Another clue may be; What are some of the people on these other teams' recruiting boards/blogs saying about their
season opener?
I think it's Pitt, IMHE.
I am stuck in Starkville, but can walk to the stadium from my house. It would be beyond awesome for it to Mississippi State.
Any BCS team makes me so happy I could PLOTZ!
Pitt and Dave Wannstache
Seconded. Personally RR probably wants another shot at them after 2007.
I attended a birthday party for a friend over the weekend and met a couple guys who had coached for Oklahoma State and followed Les to LSU. A "hey, this guys a Michigan fan" comment by my not so sober friend prompted a 10 minute discussion about football, Les, Michigan etc. (For the record, LSU coaches think M will bounce back this year and be in National Championship contention by 2010-2011.)
The rumor they heard was that Oklahoma State is in negotiations with Michigan to play a home and home, possibly as soon as 2010.
I am visiting family here in VA - they are UVA season ticket holders. According to them there is a lot of talk around UVA circles that they will likely play UM for the 2010 opener.
But all could very easily be BS, the same internet-amplified rumors we deal with over here all the time.
Thank you Baby Tebow.
Dammit I want to know now.
If this statement attributed to RR by the Daily is correct, then nobody's more surprised than me that Bill Martin's given up a home date.
And it's about time, too.
I don't think any one else has mentioned it, but why not Arkansas? All the Ryan Mallet subplots would be amazing.
10 bucks say he'll say something about family values eroding away under RR, but it would be compelling nonetheless.
I don't care who it is as long as its a mid to upper tier BCS opponent.
I vote for pitt because i go to school in Pittsburgh and i am Selfish
they tease us with info. Its so mean.
Guess my Army prediction was wrong! My wife would say this is not surprising. Guess #2 is Cal.
I get this feeling that Cal will be it. I would definitely try to make it to the game in Berkeley for the return.
a Georgia home/away.
Anyone have their pulse on whats going on with these teams?
I would like to play a relatively high profile matchup.
Preferably against someone who finishes in the top 25
High profile in this day and age is a team with a stat stuffer kinda guy like Jahvid Best or Dez Bryant that ESPN can hype in comercials.
Will those guys be on their respective teams in 2010?
I doubt Bryant sticks around for his senior season given the hype he is getting.
Best is kinda small so he might stick around for his senior year.
But I really dont know.
Mallett would definitely be at Arkansas
Isnt virginia going to have one of their DBs playing QB?
No thanks to Virginia.
Pitts entire offense was mccoy and hes in the NFL now...
Pitt would still be interesting though.
The teams I want to play are (in order)
1) CAL with Best
2) Arkansas
3) Pitt
here's a vote for an SEC team because we own the SEC (even if no one else in our conference does)
