11Warriors: OSU to announce decision on Urban today
Based on the speed at which OSU is getting this done, the recent reports from people "close" to the program and the fact that Urban was spotted going into the building where the trustees are (tweet), it seems to me like Urban will be back. The big question will be how easy they let him off suspension wise.

Good, this means Brett McMurphy can get back to work tomorrow.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:59 AM ^
Really....um ok...
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:33 AM ^
Trustee decisions usually happen behind the scenes before they officially meet. This is supposed to make the decision seem like it was obvious, and therefore garner satisfaction among the populace. Unless the public written investigation report is blatant and thorough, I'm wondering if there will be any satisfaction to be had.

I just read that Drake will make a final decision, after receiving recommendation from the BoT.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:54 AM ^
The reporting I saw was that he is not making the decision alone.

Hate the Drake
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:09 AM ^
I just read 11 warriiors and they are literally convinced this was all a setup and Brett is a liar, etc..
OSU fans won't care about how anyone else in the country feels about this when he's reinstated.
They'll argue about it, but they don't care at all about what he did or didn't do.
August 22nd, 2018 at 12:20 PM ^
Of course they don't. They care about winning football games more than anything. We're talking about a fan base that has resorted to blaming the victim. Football rivalry aside, they're terrible people.
August 22nd, 2018 at 12:41 PM ^
When Courtney Smith's own mother publicly came out against her, I became convinced this was not a black-and-white matter, and there was probably some lying from both sides.
Granted, all relationships are unique, but if I was accused of murdering someone, my mother would sell both her kidneys to get me the best lawyer possible... Or at the very least, she wouldn't sell me out.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:36 AM ^
I expect him to be fully restored with back pay and bonus for the inconvenience he was put through.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:54 AM ^
you forgot the statue and apology from the university
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:09 AM ^
He’s been getting paid.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
It was reported hes made over $400k in the 2-3 weeks hes been on "vacation"
August 22nd, 2018 at 12:32 PM ^
That would be double dipping, but I'm sure they'd find a way to justify it
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:37 AM ^
The results will be as shocking as Shea Patterson being names the starting QB...
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:38 AM ^
Seems like a pretty terrible way to pretend like you're doing your due diligence if he's back on campus before you've officially made your decision.

Something tells me Urban walks into the board room to the surprise of streamers, a welcome back cake and a clown. Everyone's wearing a pointy party hat and has to watch Urban play with his welcome back presents first before anyone else gets a chance. Everyone laughs and says let's do this again next year.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:00 AM ^
Yeah but the clown is Zach Smith and all he's wearing is a ball lifter.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:27 AM ^
As he jumps out of the cake
August 22nd, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
Urban loves beefcake
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:01 AM ^
Can the clown be Pennywise?
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:40 AM ^
No, the real question is how hard do they slap his hand?
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:44 AM ^
What's really shocking is that (according to reports) they may even "tut-tut" Urban's response as well.
How will he make it through?
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:55 AM ^
Something like this...
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:44 AM ^
Dammit, I was just about to post the same thing. Thanks for posting the info, Bambi.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:45 AM ^
If they reinstate him, then they're REALLY confident that they know everything that Mr. McMurphy knows. That's...not a good bet.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:46 AM ^
He's just there to clean out Zach's toy chest.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:49 AM ^
Weren't there reports that Urban pushed back on more suspension? I get the feeling the board will take his suggestions seriously.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:29 AM ^
It's kind of like when you're a teenager and do something so bad that you actually suggest to your parents you should be grounded for a week to distract them from the fact you should really be grounded for a month.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:50 AM ^
"They are who we thought they were!"
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:53 AM ^
So... if Urban Meyer did handle the situation correctly, as it appears OSU is going to claim... SOMEBODY screwed up to allow an abuser to remain on staff for at least a couple years after incidents occurred and were reported. Right? Somebody's got to take the blame. Athletic Director? Some other patsy?
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:20 AM ^
I think it's best not to worry about the victim here or proper protocol, just like OSU.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:52 AM ^
I expect the story will be that they knew of some of the stuff, but not the worst stuff, and they were doing everything they could to try to help him instead of firing him.
August 22nd, 2018 at 12:28 PM ^
It would surprise me if they got rid of Gene Smith, but they should. I personally thought he should’ve been fired during the demise of the Tressel era. It’s probably his turn to be the fall guy now.
August 22nd, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
I think their saving grace will be that Zach Smith was never officially charged, and there seemed to be enough conflicting stories to muddle the waters.
August 22nd, 2018 at 1:14 PM ^
My guess would be the staffer that ZS was having sex with.
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:54 AM ^
Apparently, Ohio State justice is brutally efficient. Talk about your two-minute drills. This is quicker action than any of the replay rulings in 2016. Will they dot the I after they're done, just to make it official?
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:57 AM ^
That's been my take on this the WHOLE time. It won't be Urban that takes the fall, so who will it be? It's got to be someone.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:01 AM ^
Why? They held out as long as they could during Tattoogate with Tressel. Maybe Gene Smith gets suspended or fired. But they are going to make Zach Smith look like some rogue coach who kept this all secret from the coaching staff and administration. Similar to how they threw Terrelle Pryor and others under the bus during Tattoogate.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:02 AM ^
It would be interesting if Meyer receives no punishment at all and Michigan fans could point to the fact that the only time anyone gets fined in Columbus is when they mouth off about the officiating in one of their games at the post-game press conference.
After all, integrity cannot be challenged, it might damage the game.
Lie to your own constituent audience multiple times about actions taken and not taken in a timely way in the supervision and hiring of staff who abuse their family role, their moral conduct and besmirch the reputation of their school, and you are good to go.
Now, that would really be ironic wouldn't it?
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
The part that sucks the most is Meyer has a history of turning a blind eye to things if will help him win games. If this Board doesn’t fire him I expect a public bashing of OSU for awhile from different outlets.
Once again football wins trump everything, I imagine OSU went back and had Meyer File the paperwork a couple weeks ago that said he notified the School when it happened, Gene w get a huge “hush” payout and retire, Meyer w retain his job with a few game suspension and OSU w still have there golden egg (Meyer)
everyone knows that where there is smoke there is fire, let’s just say there is more to this story then what’s been published. This is just another example of how MEYER lets his players and or coaches do whatever they want as long as they prosecute wins.
August 22nd, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^
OSU knew the issues at UF and they still hired him. They knew the issues with Tressel and kept him until they couldn’t, and even then they celebrated him at halftime. Gee was only partially joking about the balance of power.
No one should be surprised that OSU has openly prioritized football wins over the reputation of the institution.
August 22nd, 2018 at 1:32 PM ^
The PR backlash and cloud it will put on the program is one of the reasons to fire him, I think. No matter what, he comes out of this as a head coach who let a bad guy stay on staff and coach student-athletes. Today, that's unacceptable. Meyer knew and as far as we know did nothing to address the issue.
If he stays, there will be a cloud over the program, and lots of people (not just rivals) who think Meyer got off easy, and that the school doesn't take these issues seriously.
August 22nd, 2018 at 1:49 PM ^
OSU will still have there golden egg
*their
August 22nd, 2018 at 10:57 AM ^
I am just speculating here, and I totally expect a slap on the hand (as I posted above), but Meyer could be at the meeting because they plan to do something drastic and want to tell him in person. More likely, he's there so they can say "We're so sorry that damn McMurphy put you through this, coach!"
I really hope that, if he is reinstated, the media backlash creates a major distraction for his team. National media, that is. We know that, just like in East Lansing, the local press will begin ignoring this damaging story by midnight tonight.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:01 AM ^
I kind of hope he is fully reinstated and later this week McMurphy drops another bomb or two. The distractions and criticism will give me a schadenfreudegasm and might lead to his leaving anyway.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:53 AM ^
More likely, he is there to make an appearance at the press conference that will be aired shortly after the board meeting. They need him to read the prepared statement about making mistakes and healing from them.
August 22nd, 2018 at 12:18 PM ^
Or he could be there to answer questions the Drake or the BOT may have for him. Presumably he has not seen the final report (assuming there is a written report) and there may be information that raises questions they would want him to address. I mean, if the process is being handled above board.
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:01 AM ^
Any way to consolidate these threads?
August 22nd, 2018 at 11:02 AM ^
Breaking news: Michael Drake and the BoT have agreed to give meyer a pay raise and a contract extension.
