What great games. Fun night of hoops!
Louisville found Madison Square Garden has less friendly rims than the home court.
And Penn State played an absolutely terrific game! Taught everyone how to take down Maryland - do not let Cowan beat you! Make someone else hit a shot.
The BIG is deep this year.
December 10th, 2019 at 9:22 PM ^
Has the blueprint on Maryland ever really changed? They become very tunnel visioned when push comes to shove except it was Melo Trimble jacking up shots instead of Anthony Cowan nowadays.

Solid observation, Cube...

Spot on.
December 11th, 2019 at 11:42 AM ^
Is anyone else scared that OSU beat PSU by almost 40 even though they evidently are very solid?
December 10th, 2019 at 9:22 PM ^
Not sure why you're so happy about pedophiles winning, but I'm going to keep an eye on you from now on.
December 10th, 2019 at 9:27 PM ^
The Peds won't be competing for a BIG championship v Michigan. The Terps probably will.
OP has his priorities straight.
Nice that we don't have to play Penn State on the road this year - they are tough at home.
December 10th, 2019 at 9:31 PM ^
What B1G team isnt tough at home? Top to bottom the league is loaded.
December 10th, 2019 at 11:06 PM ^
Duke would probably argue MSU isn't tough at home...
December 11th, 2019 at 12:23 AM ^
Four teams in the top 25. Rest of the league is average at best. Not a loaded division by any stretch of the imagination
December 11th, 2019 at 12:45 AM ^
Beat the ACC in the BIG-ACC challenge.

Penn State only occasionally remembers it has men's or women's basketball, but it's gotten better over the last 4-5 years. Chambers has been on the hot seat more than once but his recruiting has gotten better--as in, he's made some inroads that were once no-chance--and wins like last night help it. Bryce Jordan Center was packed, and that's not easy to do (it's an all-around event center) and if you watched you saw them rush the court. And yes, this was right after being obliterated by OSU on the road; I was wondering what the turn-out would look like.
December 11th, 2019 at 5:33 AM ^
I really don’t think Maryland will be. They look like the same meh Maryland team we have been watching for the last 10 years but the pollsters had to rank somebody.

Louisville finally left their home court and Maryland has been teetering towards a loss in several close games. Illinois had them beat last game
December 11th, 2019 at 12:40 AM ^
ya, underwood pissed that game away. 2nd to last possession up 3 he set up a horrible play call. isolated georgi. he got doubled and there was nobody to kick it to. he threw up a prayer. then MD comes down and hits a ridiculous 3 to tie it with 15 secs. IL brings the ball up and underwood doesn't call TO to set up a play. instead he has his 3rd option dribble, drive, get stripped, foul the guy on the turnover. MD guy hits one FT. game over..
imo, setting up good plays after a TO separate good/great coaches from mediocre guys. underwood proved he is mediocre. JB was awesome at setting up plays. izzo is good too (puke).
December 11th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
Didn't see it, so don't know how to judge the Georgi iso play call and how the defense reacted. Sometimes you draw up a play and something weird happens or the defense adjusts their coverage or the players just make a mistake. But the rest of that final 15 seconds.... yeesh.
I have noted that Juwan has been very successful so far out of timeouts. Each game he seems to draw up a basket out of a timeout.

Yippee...the Buckeyes get to sit on top of another poll.

December 10th, 2019 at 9:43 PM ^
OSU is undefeated...although that win at UNC doesn't look so great now.
December 10th, 2019 at 10:33 PM ^
No, but their 30+ point win vs PSU looks even better.
Big Ten regular season title could be determined by who you get at home and who you avoid on the road.
December 11th, 2019 at 6:40 AM ^
Who is scheduled at home/away generally plays a significant role in your conference win / loss record. As does which teams you play since you don't play everyone the same number of times. True in football as well.
December 10th, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
Maybe the Gophers hoops team can “keep rowing” and take them down.
Regardless - Fuck Them!
December 10th, 2019 at 11:24 PM ^
OSU is #2 in football

December 10th, 2019 at 9:37 PM ^
Louisville looked like a totally different team. It's too bad Michigan got them at such an unfavorable time and place.
Maryland definitely didn't look like a top 5 team either. I know Penn State is pretty tough but Maryland seemed to have no offensive identity whatsoever.
Michigan better watch out - a road game at the Illini is pretty tough. And then Oregon comes to town on Saturday. Those would be two more great wins for this team.
December 10th, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
I'm surprised a Turgeon-coached team is getting top 5 respect. It seems like his teams are never quite as good as advertised.
December 10th, 2019 at 10:27 PM ^
Sounds like a football team we know.
December 11th, 2019 at 7:59 AM ^
I wasn't all that impressed with L'ville against M. Despite the obvious fatigue showed by Michigan, L'ville could never really pull away and turn that home game into the 20-some point blowout it should've been. I mean, M didn't hit anything! Couldn't shoot, was sluggish the whole game, and seemed somewhat disinterested.
Had Michigan been nicely rested and better prepared for that game, it's still possible L'ville would've won. But I kinda doubt it...
December 10th, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
Well idk about the bottom- Nebraskerball NW and Minn are flat out abysmal. IU wisc and Ill could squeeze out an upset or 2 depending on the schedule setting up for an upset/letdown but won’t get 8 wins in the league. Total
December 10th, 2019 at 9:43 PM ^
Big Ten is going to be brutal this season. Illinois definitely makes me nervous.
December 10th, 2019 at 9:54 PM ^
Gotta win a few on the road like @ Illinois if you want to show your mettle and be a BIG contender.
Should be a fun game!
December 10th, 2019 at 10:26 PM ^
Game @ penn state is what got belein serious about leaving last year.
December 10th, 2019 at 10:51 PM ^
Beilein didn't leave because he was fed up with college basketball. The media beat that angle into the ground.
He left because he simply wanted to give the NBA a shot. He'd climbed the ladder and it was the last remaining level of basketball to coach. He would have gone to the Pistons the year before, if they'd offered.
December 11th, 2019 at 5:36 AM ^
Good to know that JB’s confidante is here in these pages.
December 11th, 2019 at 6:44 AM ^
To be fair, the same comment applies to Carter's post. Should be "good to know that JB's confidants are here..."
December 11th, 2019 at 6:50 AM ^
Sam Webb has said the same about Beilein - he'd had his eyes on the pros for some time.
December 11th, 2019 at 9:14 AM ^
I don't think so. IMO it was the entire recruiting game.
December 10th, 2019 at 11:09 PM ^
I'm getting the impression that mbb pre-season rankings were less than accurate this season.
December 11th, 2019 at 8:19 AM ^
It does seem worse this year than most though, doesn't it? I mean it seems like they just picked school names out of a hat this year.
December 11th, 2019 at 1:21 AM ^
Maryland isn't even Top 4 in the Big Ten let alone #4 in the nation. Severely overrated.
December 11th, 2019 at 5:43 AM ^
This Illinois game is Crucial
December 11th, 2019 at 6:47 AM ^
This is overstated.
