The Blockhams in "AN ACUTE CASE OF MICHIGANITIS"
AN ACUTE CASE OF MICHIGANITIS
(Click the image to view full size)
Soo, yes... the biggest February weekend in recent Michigan history is in the books,
and like the rest of us, Tom Blockham is still recovering. If you think MICHIGANITIS
is a fabrication... just ask your wife on a Saturday morning, or your boss on a Friday
afternoon. It's real, and it was a true PANDEMIC Saturday and Sunday.
May it show no mercy in 2012.
For those of you that publish blogs, contribute stories, or otherwise comment on the
goings on of all things Michigan, you can probably agree that it was no small feat trying
to find the right words to do it justice. I can handily say this was not my first attempt
at addressing The Best Weekend Ever in the comic strip medium-- but in the end it
just came back to the characters, which I hope you've enjoyed getting to know better.
Speaking of which... new character alert for Thursday's strip. Stay tuned.
THE BLOCKHAMS™ runs every Tuesday here at MGoBlog, and at least every
Thursday on its official home page. Also, don't forget to check out our newest
feature, Friday Roughs, a spontaneous low-end comic based on trending
Michigan events, available on Twitter and Facebook every Friday.
Follow THE BLOCKHAMS™ on Twitter at @theblockhams.
I'd also like your collective help! I'd like to invite everyone to
LIKE THE BLOCKHAMS™ on Facebook at www.facebook.com/theblockhams.
If I break 250 by Friday I'll promise an extra strip that day on top of the Friday Rough!
LIKE THE BLOCKHAMS™ on your own Facebook page today and get updates
for every strip as soon as it's posted. Thanks again and GO BLUE!

Is how current it can be. "Ripped from the headlines", as it were.

It couldn't be any more "ripped from the headlines" unless a jogger in central park stumbled upon a murder victim with Olivia's card in her pocket.....

The strips are kind of South Park-esque in that way. It's pretty amazing how fast something like this, or South Park, can be completed. I was just thinking about this last night watching the South Park on Obama and McCain. Matt and Trey had to basically guess which guy was gonna win the election and they were right. The episode aired the day after the election I believe. Six Zero's comics are obviously smaller scale, but still pretty cool.

the 2008 presidential election wasn't really a nailbiter though.
/ not meant to be political

Not much risk on that guess...that election was pretty much a done deal well in advance
February 21st, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
It wasn't about who won. It was that they had parts from the election in the episode. Just my $.02.

Ryan VanBergen's Flow
/twitter gives me info

No, Van Bergen's hair isn't actually the new character.
And I apologize for this not being so.
Cool guy, and down to earth.

Brian?
He kind of has the Dude-esque quality to him though his /getoffmylawn persona may mess with that chi.

...best work, Scott.

Here's hoping the condition becomes chronic!

I am sending this to my wife so she knows it is not just me.
Love the "tremendous" case of Michiganitis.

This one is one of the best yet, right up there with the day after the sugar bowl. Nice work Sixzero.

so can the rest of you.
Get movin'

This is a good one. I also especially like the 2/17 Friday Rough. Keep up the great work!

Whenever I don't want to go to work, I will just say I have a tremendous case of Michiganitis.
February 21st, 2012 at 4:43 PM ^
I had one tremendous case of Michiganitis this past weekend, too. Must be going around :)
February 21st, 2012 at 5:18 PM ^
As always, love the strip.
Based on the boards this weekend, how could the new character not be Kate Upton?
February 21st, 2012 at 5:23 PM ^
All that was missing was replaying the sugar bowl. Putting OSU down, commits on commits on commits. Sadly there couldn't have been an additional weekend day to keep it all going a little longer.
February 22nd, 2012 at 4:37 AM ^
that Michiganitis is utopian by it's very nature.
Nice work Six Zero, I'll keep reading my man, thanks for the comic relief.
February 23rd, 2012 at 6:45 AM ^
Maybe your best one yet, Six Zero, but any excuse to relive the best of the best of the best days ever...
February 24th, 2012 at 8:15 AM ^
Love the last panel -- the way the kid is lifting the eyelid ... the tilt of his head ... eyes and eyebrows. That's terrific!

How about Michiganosis? Wouldn't Michiganitis be an inflammation of Michigan? How about a pathology related to Michigan, hence -osis?
