Zeke Berry has Committed to Michigan Comment Count

[UPDATE: now the comments are on.]

Michigan’s post-Ohio State win run of recruiting success continues, as the Wolverines picked up a commitment today from 2022 safety Zeke Berry out of Concord (CA) De La Salle.

Berry is ranked #226 in the 247 Composite, but both 247 and ESPN have him comfortably inside the Top 100. He is a superb athlete with excellent acceleration and impressive top-end speed. He could probably play running back or receiver at the college level, but his upside as a do-everything safety is significant.  He was briefly committed to Jedd Fisch and Arizona before decommitting in October. He picked up USC and Washington offers in the interim, but he was in the Big House on Saturday which apparently sealed the deal.

With 20 commits currently in the fold, Michigan’s 2022 class is currently up to #13 in the country.  There is no content after the jump.

Welcome Zeke!

As a 2022 flip, this is big.  Most of the post OSU-win commits have been 2023.  And a guy from CA no less who saw Michigan in November and not just in the summer.

This may be a fairly random question.

With this commitment, people seem happy with the DB haul.  Currently, what is Michigan's depth and youth like in the secondary?  Solid?

Are V. Gray and G. Green juniors?

I’d say we are looking really good in the secondary. Will Johnson coming in as a five star. Berry, Kody Jones, Pollard. We have Rod Moore who’s played a bunch and well. DJ Turner, Paige and Moten.
More pressing need for next year is to figure out who replaces Aidan and Ojabo on the ends. Inside d line looks good. Linebackers are set.

I’m skeptical of admissions when it comes to the portal. Until we start actually landing kids out of it on a consistent basis i just don’t see it. It was both a blessing and a curse of Ojabo breaking out so dominant this year. Blessing of what we are getting out of him but we are losing him a year earlier than many expected and just so happens to be the same time Hutch is leaving too. I’m wondering if Harrell, Morris, Upshaw, Welschof sp?) or McGregor can at least provide one or two dominant ends from that group. Have TJ Guy and Bennett as younger players too.
