Marrow To Stay At UK
A couple of Kentucky outlets are reporting that Wildcats TE coach Vince Marrow is staying with UK; this one in particular was accurate about things being up in the air when others were reporting that he was a goner:
BREAKING: Source tells KSR that Vince Marrow will return to Kentucky. Deal to be announced tomorrow
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) January 5, 2015
This is a much bigger deal for Kentucky than it was ever going to be for Michigan, as Marrow was connected to about half of their recruiting class—Michigan is going to do just fine on the recruiting trail under Harbaugh either way.

I know we'll find a good TE coach in the long run, but I'm concerned about trying to bring Chris Clark back into the fold without a TE coach. Damn.

I don't get it... Can't Harbaugh just be like "Hey Chris, do you see Coby Fleener and Zach Ertz in the NFL"
"Yeah, I recruited and coached those two. You can be them. Come to Michigan."
lol

That is a very good point. I'm just concerned it will be harder to pull Clark from his UCLA trend without him knowing who his position coach will be.

There's a whole month before signing day and I'm betting (just speculating) that JH has someone named for TE's by the end of this week. Plenty of time.

This is approximately how I feel after hearing all the positive stuff about this guy and the liklihood that he was going to come to Michigan.

Sounds like Drevno is one of the best OL coaches out there.

Until Marrow himself says that he is staying with Kentucky, which he has not.
This was reported on Twitter by a couple of Kentucky beat writers who have an interest in keeping him there, like the NFL reporters had an interest, in keeping Harbaugh in the NFL. I tend to doubt their verasity on this issue. Do these Kentucky beat writers have more cred than the NFL guys ?
Kentucky may have indeed raised the stakes by making a larger financial offer, but Harbaugh could make a counteroffer tomorrow, if it is money that is motivating him, and if this is the case, then Michigan has the advantage in a bidding war, for Kentucky has an entire Basketball team to pay off, plus more recruits coming, and we don't pay our players.

Please don't be that guy. So all beat writers are wrong? I tend to trust the team beat writers who really do have good sources within the athletic departments. The NFL/Harbaugh stuff was completely different as they were getting their info from NFL agents/insiders at other teams while we got our info from insiders in the Michigan AD.

So did you say the same thing when all the UM beat writers were on the Harbaugh boat earlier in December?
January 5th, 2015 at 1:26 AM ^
I don't know how good of reporters the local guys are, but I do know that local reporters are more likely to have good sources than people from the outside. The Harbaugh NFL thing was scewed because all sorts of Michigan sources had contact with Harbaugh, so our sources were better. But I doubt our reporters have better contacts in Kentucky than their own do.

and it opens up a spot for another defensive coordinator.

an agreement that will be announced tomorrow. That means there is still time for Harbaugh to Harbaugh. It sounds doubtful though.

If it's true, Stoops and Marrow may have had a "sudden" interest in Chris Clark because #1- Chris Clark, and #2 - "Take that Mr. Harbaugh, for tampering with my man, Marrow". Ahhhh recruiting: the game within the game.

He must be really tight with Stoops and pretty confident that UK is going to make some strides. Otherwise, what's his career trajectory if he stays at UK as opposed to coming here?
It might make sense to him to turn us down to take a job that entails being a recruiting coordinator job at a SEC team that looks like it's on the rise. There are lots of worse positions.

Sam Webb had some very interesting insight into this situation on the show this morning. He said (and I paraphrase) that Marrow was telling anyone who would listen that he wanted the Michigan job. Webb didn't sound too confident that Marrow was even offered a contract and thought it strange that Marrow had begun to contact Michigan players to recruit them before having a deal with Michigan.
Reading between the lines, it seems like Marrow might have been more interested than Michigan...or that Michigan wasn't too happy with his jumping the gun.

are from Youngstown, OHIO which could be the driving force behind this rejection. Oh well, that's his problem.

of good S & C coaches out there. Feel pretty confident Coach Harbaugh can find a great one. Marrow is disappointing from the recruiting standpoint, but hopefully once things head in a better direction, recruits will want to come to Michigan again. Excited to see the staff fill out, and can't wait for signing day. Surprises??
