2011 football bold predictions

Submitted by vaneasy2338 on

Ok guys this is a thread I have wanted to start after NSD (and before spring ball just to make some of us look stupid). Lets do a bold predictions thread for the upcoming season. Just to add some format, how about we do one bold prediction about the offense, one bold prediction about the defense, and one bold prediction about for the upcoming freshman class. I'll start with mine

1. Offense- Fitzgerald Toussaint and Stephen Hopkins will run for a combined 1500 yards.

2. Defense- The defense will be ranked somewhere between 50 and 60 in yards per game.

3. Freshman class- Chris Barnett make the biggest impact outside of anyone on special teams next season (not the boldest prediction, I know).

Twice next season. +2 on the all time record. This repeats itself for the next 5 years and quickly helps us relieve some of the pain that was dished out the last decade. JT retires.

Football Predictions

/play-on-words joke

Offense: Denard makes another leap with his passing ability - but not as big as his one this past year. 3000/1000, trip to NY

Defense: Martin is a 1st round draft pick after owning double teams all year

Freshman: Wile wins the job and kicks well, 14/18 or so.

Offense:  Fitzgerald Toussaint has a 1,000 yard season.

Defense:  Three of the starting secondary will be filled with surprises with Kovacs, Vinopal and J.T. Floyd all moving to backup roles.

Freshman:  Wile makes a FG of longer than 45 yards (oh please be true, please be true, please be true...)

Wins:  Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, San Diego State*, Minnesota, at Northwestern*, Purdue and at Illinois*.

Losses: Notre Dame, at MSU*, at Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio State

* I think SDSU, Northwestern, MSU and Illinois games will be close games.

Bowl game will be against Missouri or Oklahoma State, which Michigan will win.

There. Done. Now on to 2012.

Yeah, I've gotta believe we'll win at least one of the rivalry games. I'd take Nebraska, though.

I think Nebraska may soon replace ND on our list of annual rivalry games. Obviously, ND will always be a huge game. But I just get the feeling it will become a less-than-annual event.

Honestly, I'm holding out at this point until I see the roster for spring.  We'll probably see a couple more transfers for whatever reason.  (Not necessarily football related)

Bringing in a new offensive scheme is cause for caution...What did Borgess said today?

One prediction on Defense: Thomas Gordon will start.

One prediction on Special Teams: They'll get their mojo back. (Can it get any worse?)

One prediction on Offense: Stonum and Jackson will lead the team in receiving yardage. Yep, I know...I have a feeling our Donald Duck's yards/gm are gonna take a poo poo! ( I Hoke I'm wrong!)

Playing it safe for now...

P.S. Borges should bone up on the spread.  There are plenty of books and DVD's. I had a nightmare last night...Hoke against Urban at u know where.  OMG.  I'm not well today.

Defense: Courtney Avery and Carvin Johnson both win starting jobs and play like second-year starters, i.e., pretty well. Jake Ryan starts every game. Overall, there are still weaknesses, but the offense no longer has to score on every possession in order to have a chance to win against quality opponents.

Offense: Denard doesn't have as many long runs, but he has more third-down conversions running out of the pocket. The media has to coin a new term for what he does, because "scrambling" doesn't cut it -- it's more like "phase-shifting" or something. After a solid year behind the seniors Stonum and Hemingway, Ricardo Miller will wear the 1 jersey in 2012. Overall, best in the Big Ten.

Freshmen: Joey Kerridge, the walk-on fullback coming back from a torn ACL last July, wins a scholarship in camp and sees playing time. Pooch-punts at least once during the season.

The Night Game against Notre Dame will feature new maize unis and the flyover will be an AC-130 that will deploy its flares at a 'close but safe' distance above the stadium. Oh...and Denard will put up over 600 yards of total offense.

We will beat every state school that dares go against Hokeamania.

Denard, Mike Martin, Will Hagerup and Greg Brown all receive invitations to go to NY for the Heisman ceremony. Denard Wins.

National Championship.

Brandon announces that we'll go from playing ND every season to playing them every other season. Opens the door to play more marquee opponents in other "markets," while avoiding a brutal schedule like the one we face in 2012.

Hoke isn't gonna want to annually play OSU, Nebraska, and ND plus a Bama, Texas, USC or somesuch. But if we alternate ND with one of the others, that would work.

Hopkins will have 1450 yards, because Fitz is going to injure his big toe after a 50-yard run on his one and only carry in the opener.

8-4 for the season. We'll be up by 21 points on OSU late in the third quarter, but then the Big Ten will bring in the basketball refs to even things up, and they'll penalize Michigan on literally every play in the last stanza for illegal procedure, setting an NCAA record for most penalty yards assessed, 650. OSU will score 4 straight touchdowns without having to snap the ball.

I don't mean for the Gallon post to make it sound like I expect a lot of attrition, maybe 2 or 3, but I think special teams is his only benefit and my opinion is that he doesn't do that terribly well.  The occasional nice return but too often making poor choices as well.

8-4

denard throws for 3100, rushes for 800, 25 passing TD, 9 int

we have 2 WR's with just over 1000 yards

we have a RB that gets 65% of the  RB carries, rushes for 900 yards

the rest of the backs get 600 total yards

D-Line is our defensive strength, and with the pressure we put on QB's our already improved secondary shows even more statistical improvement

we miss some field goals, probably something like 17/22, 2 missed PAT for various reasons

Team is 9-3 with losses to tosu (by 10), Nebraska (by 7) and loss by 3 at Wisconsin.  Nebraska and tosu plays for the Championship with tosu winning.  M goes to Capital One Bowl against Georgia and wins.

Wile will lead the team in scoring, breaking freshman scoring records

Denard will have 1600 passing & 800 rushing yards; 4 rushing TDs and 10 passing TDs

Barnett will have 2 TD catches and is the biggest suprise.

Cox will have most rushing TD, and Stonum most receiving TD.  Stonum honored with #1 jersey.

Defense scores 3 TDs, with Countness returning a INT for a TD.

OFFENSE: Denard puts up similar total yards, but with more through the air.  The receivers put up big numbers in several games.  The running backs bring us back to respectability busting through the big holes opened by our line.

FRESHMEN: We are able to red-shirt around 15 of them and let them develop like in the old days.

DEFENSE: Prediction? Prediction?
