UM, ND top list of most underperforming programs (per Doc Sat)
Dr. Saturday ranks the most underperforming programs over the past four years based on the rankings of their recruiting classes. Guess who is near the top of the list?

Surprise guys! We haven't been very good recently!

Well at least ND finished worse.

I could have gone the rest of my life not being told about this article.

Obviously I think this trend is turning around. Unfortunately, I think that is also true for ND.

Dr. Saturday just called me into his office, told me to bend over and cough, and was NOT very gentle.

Moon River... Whew, thank you Doc (Saturday). You ever serve time?

Using the whole fist, doc?

Anyone know how to build one? I'm told that all we need is a DeLorean and Flux Capacitor.
The article is correct. Our underachievement started showing on Saturday, September 1st, 2007. The worst day of my life. If we can somehow change it...

It's a fair article. The way I look at it: We have a shit ton of upside.

Is that it's a little like describing hydrogen as the "fuel of the future". As in, "Hydrogen is the fuel of the future, and it always will be."

Automatic +1 for any hydrogen joke that doesn't just take the lazy exposion route.

I tend to disagree. While it's pretty obvious that lately we've not had the luster of previous Michigan seasons, the article completely disregards the "decimated defense" - that is to say, it completely ignores situations like Demar Dorsey, JT Turner, Boubacar Cissoko, plus all of the other kids we've lost to transfers, injuries, etc. That makes up for a big chunk of our underperformance, IMO.
While he's not wrong, I feel like he left out a lot of important information.

"[T]he article completely disregards the "decimated defense" - that is to say, it completely ignores situations like Demar Dorsey, JT Turner, Boubacar Cissoko, plus all of the other kids we've lost to transfers, injuries, etc."
So, you didn't actually read the article, did you? If you did, you would have caught this sentence: "A combination of injuries and massive attrition undermined Michigan's continued presence at the top of the Big Ten recruiting charts under Rich Rodriguez."

That depends on what the definition of the word is is.
January 31st, 2011 at 10:23 AM ^
On paper, the Wolverines ranked right alongside Ohio State as the most talented team in the Big Ten throughout Rodriguez's tenure
at times, UM's defense reminded me of paper in that high school football players routinely ran through it prior to football games.

+1 sir

in recruiting, in spending, in coaching, in winning, etc. and, its not just in football either.
they get their kids to the pros, they market the pros to the high school kids, they dominate in-state recruiting, they have a formula, they stick to it.
also, michigan was basically playing their very good 2008 class against OSU's very good 2005 through 2009 classes the past few years.

Notre Dame has been underperforming for almost 20 years. Returning to Glory since 1992
January 31st, 2011 at 2:48 PM ^
They had a very good team in 1993 (11-1). They've been returning to glory since '94.
January 31st, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
And you guys since '97.

we haven't sunk to freekbass depths.

Totally serious, this makes me happy. Everyone knows we've sucked recently. All this reminds us is that we are still a national program with massive recruiting pull. That is to say all I learn from this is that there is potential to put this back together.
January 31st, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
I don't think we've spent nearly as much time in the desert,if you will, as ND, but yeah, we have underperformed for a couple years now. It looks like we're about to turn that around though.....
January 31st, 2011 at 8:27 PM ^
No surprise here. Denard + Defense should change things drastically
