he could probably play at a lot of D-1 schools.. but you have to imagine D-1 schools wanting to take a kid who'll be a junior.. much like a JUCO... some schools don' t like to do that...
he would be forced to sit a year.. and that would be two years away from his last start...
Many things point to D-1AA or whatever it is called now... but it wouldn't shock anyone to see him at a D-1 school... or a BSC team... there's just many factors against it.
January 24th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
Good point about him being way removed from his last start after his transfer redshirt season. But given Denard's injury status last year I would think he got enough time in to sell a coach.
Also, a lot of schools aren't as strict as we are on JUCO's or transfers. Hell, Ole Miss let Masoli transfer for one year after being publicly kicked off his team for legal troubles.
Personally, I think Tate finds an upper half BCS team to take him.
January 24th, 2011 at 1:32 PM ^
I absolutely think Forcier can compete (and win) a starting job in a BCS conference. Provided he can mature enough to start putting in the work. Remember how excited everyone was about him in 2009? Assuming he can get his act together, I can definitely see him earning a starting job at a good program. Personally, he really hope he does.
January 24th, 2011 at 1:40 PM ^
That's about what I thought. If he can impress some coaches, there's no reason Tate can't go back home and compete for (and win) a starting spot at UCLA or Cal, just to name a couple.
He has just made some terrible choices. Thankfully he didn't shoot himself in the foot like Masoli or someone; apparently he got arrogant and lazy. Not too much to overcome when you're talking about a twenty year old who can give his side of the story. (Not to mention has some great film from his time here.)
January 24th, 2011 at 2:43 PM ^
Forcier is a random event generator who still needs to learn how to play within an offense. I'm not sure too many BCS coaches would spend any capital on a QB who supposedly failed out of Michigan with weird, helicopter parents, that turns the ball over a lot.
January 24th, 2011 at 3:03 PM ^
Forcier is lucky as hell, and makes some ugly plays. But he has great physical tools and has shown that he's a pretty good QB.
January 24th, 2011 at 3:15 PM ^
Yeah, but if you're a coach, do you exert much influence to get him admitted to a Cal/UCLA with all his baggage? I don't think I would.
January 24th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Fair point. But Arizona, or Colorado or Utah might not have the same scruples. I think that outside the absolutely top tier schools (so probably USC and now Oregon in the Pac) it would be worth taking a flier on him if he can get eligible.
January 24th, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
and then see why people (including me) think Tate is a really good QB.
January 24th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
No. I agree with you. I wasn't getting that everyone is seeming to think he's out of the BCS caliber schools for good.
I mean, the only reason this guy didn't start at Michigan is because we had Denard freaking Robinson in front of him (well and I guess Tate got lazy).
January 24th, 2011 at 3:36 PM ^
He is a fine quarterback......needs to be a college student that plays football next time around.

Furman is a great academic school and be close to his brother. I almost went there. I think he dates Ms. Michigan....anyone?? Is this true or not??

when i said that other people care, and that i could care less means that i care LESS then the people who care. can we over analzye this more? or less? or who cares?!
January 24th, 2011 at 3:56 PM ^
He's just pointing out that the phrase you should have used was "I couldn't care less," and that his pet peeve is the common bastardization of that phrase into "I could care less," which actually says the opposite of what it's intended to mean.
In other words, understanding English isn't over-analyzing.

We only talk about the players who play for Michigan.

Michigan Players ...
January 24th, 2011 at 1:34 PM ^
Cutler feels, after all the "p*ssy" tweets former pro players were letting rip when they saw JC on the sideline not playing with a "sore" knee. Little did they know he had a torn MCL. Felt kinda like the harassment Tate was getting after the UConn game.
January 24th, 2011 at 2:53 PM ^
Surely you mean Jay and not Jake
January 24th, 2011 at 3:58 PM ^
And surely he means "sprained" not "torn" MCL.
And don't call me Shirley.

"Did I miss anything?"
When Tate transfers, it will be all over this Board and likely make ESPN's list of stories on its front page. The kid made (the corner of) the cover of SI after ND 2009 -- where he goes will make the 24-hour news cycle.
His grades were good enough to qualify him to play this Fall, so at worst he's looking at starting his Sophomore year over again. If it's true that the main problem has been academics (an assumption), I'm not sure Indiana would take him -- their academic standards are real, and he could easily fail again.
Maybe he's a good fit for the Mountain West or the WAC?

I think I speak for all when I say thank you for dropping Jocelyn Wildenstein from your avatar. I'm still going to need therapy for all the exposure to that freakshow you put me through, but I'm glad the nightmare is finally over.

Yes, thanks for getting rid of that.

Go to Rice. So in two years they have Mcguffie and Tate, who could have been our 2009 starters!
JK, He should stay in State and go to EMU, CMU or WMU. Become the the next great MAC Qb!
January 24th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
They were our 2009 starters, until McGuffie got hurt that is.
January 24th, 2011 at 3:00 PM ^
McGuffie transferred after the 2008 season.

I haven't seen this anywhere else on the board. (If I missed it, sorry.) Doc Saturday, via Rivals, has published a tale-of-the-tape comparison of the Forcier Brothers' histrionic farewell addresses:

I think San Diego State would be the perfect destination for him. Close to home. Can spend time with his family... Mind you I'm talking about him going to San Diego State to become Head Coach.
January 24th, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
I thought someone posted on here last week that Tate was transferring to Washington? Or it could have been just the usual mgoblog rumor mongering.
January 24th, 2011 at 2:09 PM ^
08 Mallet to Arkansas
09 Threet to ASU
11 Forcier to ______
At least Forcier had moved to backup.

How about University of San Diego? That's where Jim Harbaugh coached before he became HC at Stanford.
January 24th, 2011 at 2:29 PM ^
You seldom get to witness so much of a kid's growth through college, even if it's your own. Tate didn't make it all the way, but I'm grateful for the adventure as it was. Tate was billed as a factory-built quarterback out of prep, but from his cockiness, to his struggles, to his redemption, and his failures, his is a story that will serve to remind the EA Sports generation just how utterly human this game really is. Thank you for everything you gave to the University of Michigan, Robert, and good luck in everything you do.
January 24th, 2011 at 3:32 PM ^
The kid just flunked out of school and threw a Twitter press conference in which he whined that "Michigan gave up on me." I'm not patting him on the back just yet. If he gets his head on straight at his next school, then we can say he's grown as a person.
January 24th, 2011 at 2:40 PM ^
...like to stay around Cali. I'm guessing USD or SDSU, but there are a bunch of smaller conference Cali schools where Le Petit Forcier could be Le Grand Fromage. They just aren't in the Pac Ten.
January 24th, 2011 at 2:40 PM ^
I think he wanted to stay & I think most Michigan fans wanted him to stay. I think he would have fit with the new coaching staff. Wish him the best.
January 24th, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
Do failing grades from Michigan carry more weight,
when transferred, than those from other
less self absorbed institutions ?

My guess is the drama club at NYU. I think he would be great in day time TV.
