DB Coach?
Now that his season is over, who thinks Brady's brother, Jon, will give us a look? Even with Mattison, I think it's important we have someone in place to get commits from McClure and Raven (and Countess' confirmation for that matter). Who are the other candidates?
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
Jon Hoke isn't coming to Michigan.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
Do you think we have a shot with Corwin Brown?
(Also realized I'm talking about a coach like a recruit, just go with it).
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:44 PM ^
As long as Michigan has an open DB coach job, we have a shot with Corwin Brown.

January 23rd, 2011 at 7:40 PM ^
I think Corwin Brown is currently, like, the "Assistant to the defensive backs coach" or something like that. IIRC, he's not an actual coach.
So to answer your question...maybe.
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:12 PM ^
I didn't see anyone explicitly called out as O or D coordinator. is that accurate?
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
"assistant to the defensive backs coach" or "assistant defensive backs coach"??
*office reference, anyone?*
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
that makes more sense then
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
Anyone? What would that do for recruiting?
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:40 PM ^
Good point and I would say no, but I also wouldn't have believed the Mattison hire. If Corwin wants back into the college game he could very well take this job, "help Michigan", and then move on (i.e. I'm not sure how long Mattison is planning on coaching, and it could be a positive marker for him to turn our secondary around to get another position).
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
Corn Flakes Brown!
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
to have Corwin here. You talk about a Michigan Man. wow
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:51 PM ^
You mean the one who told recruits (when he was coaching at ND) that he would have gone to ND over Michigan had he been offered by them?
I'm 100% willing to forgive Brown and I've love to have him back as a DB coach. But I don't forget.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:32 PM ^
Did Corwin Brown and Mattison overlap at Notre Dame at all?
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
Brown came after Mattison, IIRC.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
Charles Woodson retires after the Super Bowl and comes home to Michigan to coach the DB's.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:41 PM ^
watching Charles Woodson every sunday but i give it a couple years and he will be done.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
His recently signed contract goes til 2015. Maybe then.
January 23rd, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
I think Charles finishes his contract and goes to Napa Valley where he does some more hands on work with his winery. "21" is a good, but expensive bottle of wine

as DB coach. I would like that too.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:41 PM ^
I was thinking that exact same thing earlier today. Great minds think alike. Hope that becomes reality down the line. He would be an awesome recruiter.

you DON'T follow him on twitter and badger him with thoughtless tweets?
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
If he had wanted the DC job, he could have had it. He squashed that and there is NO way he will move from the NFL back to college for the same job. He has numerously stated he is more of an NFL coach than a college coach. Very, very doubtful.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:02 PM ^
I swear I heard the same argument about our current DC.... Not saying you said it... I think DB set the tone of not speaking to potential coaches until their season is done. Hoke followed that example by not bringing Mattison in until his season was over. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jon Hoke came to coach DB's... It's not like da bears DB job is the pinnacle of position coaching.... I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the job by Monday or Tuesday....
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:43 PM ^
He doesn't like recruiting. He is not coming here. It has nothing to do with Mattison. That guy is a legend in recruiting, Hoke is not.
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
My comparison of Mattison was based on the same thing being said about him "he won't leave the NFL to coach the same position". I wasn't saying that he was going to come here because of mattison...
January 23rd, 2011 at 8:32 PM ^
I think I misunderstood your response. My bad. My only gripe with Hoke is the understanding that he doesn't like to recruit. I wouldn't mind him coming in. I just want it to be a Mattison hire and not a "brother hire".
January 24th, 2011 at 12:47 AM ^
Most people didn't know about the friendship he has with Hoke. It was evident that they worked together, but I had no idea that Mattison thought so highly and cared so much for Hoke.
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:34 PM ^
You closed your post with "very, very doubtful"--I thought you knew everything?
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:39 PM ^
Sure seems like it. Although, when asked, he said no. He doesn't like to recruit. I wonder who else is available out of the playoff teams.
We still need 2 coaches, I wonder who they are waiting on.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:40 PM ^
He said he wasn't interested.
I suppose it's possible that he was just saying that until the Bears season ended, though. Brady seemed to hint that his brother might be the guy, and it does seem weird that they haven't hired a DB coach yet.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:54 PM ^
Well, I guess we'll be finding out soon if it was indeed a smoke screen or not.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^
I agree with this and realize its plausibility, but don't you think this is more of a Mattison hire than a Hoke hire? Maybe not, but I hope it is after seeing this Gerg and Shafer disaster.
January 23rd, 2011 at 9:46 PM ^
No idea. I'm sure both guys will sign off on whoever is hired.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
But please have a more informative title. I clicked on this thinking we had a DB coach, and now I'm disappointed to see we're still looking for one.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
samesies.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
It's going to be Darrell Green.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
I would love it to be Darrel Green!!
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:48 PM ^
We need someone young, willing to recruit, and a potential future DC or head coach.
January 23rd, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
This description screams Corwin Brown.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:02 PM ^
It would be really awesome if descriptions really could scream.
"Up your ASS, George!" screamed the dirty, smelly.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:14 PM ^
I want Corwin Brown too. Go Blue!
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
Its gonna be jon hoke. Brady already asked him if at the end of the season he would come over and he said he would love to. The Bears coaching staff is a nervous wreck wondering if they are going to keep their jobs year in and year out.
January 23rd, 2011 at 7:07 PM ^
Where did you see that "he would love to?"
