More Mattison love
Keeping up with the Mattison love I came across this article that had some quotes from current Ravens players Reed & Pryce.

After watching CFL and Brians post I can't wait to see what this guy will be able to do. I was only 13 when he was our coach back then but I remember how good those defenses were.

I feel for you kid, the fickle finger of football fate has been dreadfully cruel to you. Hopefully M doesn't miss another bowl game until your 90 or so

He was also born in 1996-1997, maybe he is our good luck charm.

I'm on board for KayKay being our good luck charm.
Bit of advice though...be careful of posting to mgoblog while in school (yes, I know you've done it)...take advantage of school time to learn, or at the very least socialize with friends. Enjoy mgoblog to spend time at the expense of other activities while fretting over things completely out of your control.
Keep bringing the good luck,
Go Blue

My passion for this site runs deep. And it doesn't hurt when my friends are just as into it as I am. Go blue! And just a heads up for everyone, we have a runningback, two corners, and a kicker as good as commited for the class of 2014 (if offerable)

Are you KayKay's dad?

Good read. This guy looks pretty solid to me. Can't wait until we find our new Woodson.

Good looks!!

GERG, now there was an attractive man. However, I guess I am beginning to feel really good about the ugly guys who are now coaching the team.

not the other guy you have mentioned

We'll go back to the days of injuring the first and second string quarterbacks of the opponents! a la Alan Branch

Man all the CFL love will definitely help with recruiting. I watched when Jesse Palmer was basically having an orgasm over him. These kids watch these shows just like evrybody else and seeing stuff like this definitely puts his legacy and history in their minds

When he said "Legendary" recruiter I got goosbumps!!!
January 19th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
I think he gets into AA tomorrow and hopefully he hits the recruiting trail right away.
January 19th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
This is a 5* hire. He is immediately paying dividends for defensive recruits.

Nothing but positive feedback and best wishes from Baltimore...a good sign.
January 19th, 2011 at 8:40 PM ^
Let's hope he doesn't take this approach at Michigan LOL
"I think deep down he's really a defensive line coach," defensive end Trevor Pryce said. "That's what I know him as, a defensive line coach. He spends a lot of time with us, and I'm like, 'Don't you have a secondary to deal with?' He'll say, 'Oh no, those guys will figure it out.'"
January 19th, 2011 at 9:10 PM ^
Come on guy...."those guys" in Baltimore would have been Tony Pagano aka. the new defensive coordinator.
I'm sure he was comfortable leaving Ed Reed et al. in his hands.

to actually see the defense get a three and out again - I almost forgot what those are.

One drawback will be that we will have to scout our competition's punters. This was something we did not have to waste film room time on for the last few years.

in 2010 teams were 84 of 194 on 3rd down (M rank: 95th nationally) and 21 of 28 on 4th down (M rank: 116th nationally) vs. Michigan. Perhaps most damning is that UMass was 2 of 2 on 4th down, while the game (and a potential revival of The Horror) hung in the balance.

...Mattison. Huge, huge compliments. And these team stats are nothing short of incredible:
During Mattison's 32-game, two-season reign over the Ravens' defense, Baltimore allowed just 16.6 points per game, the lowest among the four coordinators the Ravens have had to date (and that includes a certain outspoken coach by the name of Rex Ryan).
During this span, Baltimore allowed a league-low 54 touchdowns, 13 of them on the ground, the third-fewest in the league. Baltimore was also third in scoring defense in each of Mattison’s two seasons at the defensive helm.
I'm still shaking my head about the front page skepticism regarding Mattison.
January 19th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
Ehh, it's not like he took a bunch of journeymen free agents to become that elite of a defense; he had superstars and he used them well.
January 19th, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
I would post a picture of GERG rubbing Mattison's face with his stuffed beaver. That's how much I love this hire.
