Okay so damage control time. Marvin Lewis? Seems like a viable option too. If Jim Harbaugh doesn't come here, 2012 can't come soon enough. Lloyd Carr?! AHHH

There are still a lot of people around there who would rather not see Jim step foot on campus ever again. IMO, this is last minute rumor tossing out of that side trying to kill this off, so that they can get their way.....IE Brady Hoke. He does have a ton of support in some circles around town for the job quite honestly.

Maybe just a way to drive people to the Freep.com site. The way this thing is going, any and every rumor is making waves. Rosenberg knows how sensitive the environment is. If the freep is the only one with a "source" saying this, then you can bet your ass many people will be visiting/linking to Freep.com for a read. Let's not forget the Freep isn't in the greatest financial situation. Do I sound crazy yet?

Well if anyone can use an unknown source. My source from inside the Panthers organization has said that Harbaugh and Luck have been working a deal. That Harbaugh will be the coach as long as they draft Luck with the first pick.

JH is going to bring his staff from Stanford, plus pick up RR from Michigan as OC, while Friedgen will be hired to be the special teams coach. The final piece of the puzzle is Urban Meyer who is in charge of PR, boosters and recruiting.

This is purely fictional but this is something that could have been tossed around by Harbaugh & Luck. The rest was added just for entertainment purposes. Since Carolina will get the first pick. It does make for an interesting conversation piece.

If Rosenberg (who probably does have connections to Harbaugh) and Balas (who almost certainly does) are both saying it than it's pretty certain. Still want RR fired, though.

...don't believe anything you read for the next few days.

First and foremost, if I was on Harbaugh's side...I would be throwing disinformation everywhere.  The more confusion, the higher the price tag, and more the bargaining power.

Second, of all the possibilities, the least likely is that JH stays at Stanford.  After seeing his attitude last night, does anyone think that Stanford is his first choice?

He may very likely go to the NFL.  He might come here.  He will stay at Stanford only if all other options are not realistic.

Never trust a player or coach quote or source less than 24 hrs after an emotional game. Valid for retirements, trade requests, coaching moves, etc. Patience is a virtue people, and in this instance, patience being defined as 48 hours is probably not too much to ask.

"But WInEx, WE RZ GOIN TO LOZE ALL R RECRUTZZZ IF PIMP HAND ISNT ALREADY IN MIAMI IN THE LOCKER ROOM AT HALFTIME LOCKING UP SAVIOR!!!!"

Um, no. And bringing back RichRod will still likely bring us the #2 or #3 recruting class in the Big Ten, Denard back as a 2nd year starter behind an OL with 4/5 returning starters, a receiving corps with 2 veteran playmakers (albeit with some dropsie issues) & a slot billy goat who will block safties and nicklebacks into the netherworld, a legit deep threat TE, a DL featuring a possible All-American and a legit all-conference player, a MLB who likely won't blow every assignment, a defensive backfield featuring a two deep that includes seniors who've played the position for multiple years and no true freshman, a possibly competent placekicker (albeit a true freshman), and a new defensive coordinator who will likely have a freer hand than the previous 2 DC's. This to me equals a 2 win improvement, which a 9 win season I'd be happy with.

This whole situation has made me go back to one of the Covey maxims that you learn in "7 traits of highly effective people" (which actually works, yo)... For a deal or relationship to work, its got to be win / win or no deal. For a new coach, it's got to be a win / win for both sides or no deal. To me that means either we get our top choice whic is clear improvement in multiple areas, or we stick with a guy who, while not as fast or clean as we like, is making progress.

The way Rosenberg put it regarding his source was interesting. He said the source didn't want to be named "because Rich Rodriguez is still the head coach." Even though it's not normal to name your sources, this seems like it may have come from the athletic department. If this came from an outsider, who gives a rip if Rich Rod's still the coach, but if the source is from within then you wouldn't want yourself or where you come from to be named. The source had "direct knowledge of his thinking." You would think Brandon has direct knowledge of this kind.

I think Brandon has received word from Jim regarding his status, and that this was an intentional leak to the media so there isn't a major letdown when Hoke or whomever shows up at the press conference and not Harbaugh. CONSPIRACY!

Rosenberg also has another article from this morning where he states "so it comes down to san francisco and ann arbor. My gut says he ends up at michigan but I just don't know." Looks like the freep is trying to stir shit up again and sell papers. Sorry I can't link the article from my phone.

WTF?
Jim Harbaugh is highly unlikely to accept the Michigan football coaching job if it becomes available, a person with direct knowledge of Harbaugh’s thinking told the Free Press.

So I expect this to come down to San Francisco or Ann Arbor. My gut says he ends up at Michigan, but I don't know.

The Brady Hoke statements last night from "Michigan sources" is DB realizing Harbaugh's decision and already throwing out a new name to the press-- to make a possible hire less of a surprise.

i lost respect for the rivals mods outside of spath a long time ago. It became obvious at the beginning of the season they were openly campaigning for Rich to get fired.  I am assuming Balas has the same sources as Rosenberg, since he pretty much writes the same exact same thing except a couple hours earlier.

Not that he knows anymore than anyone else, but Schefter just tweeted:

RT @mjroth1: What are you hearing about Harbaugh focused on 49ers, not Michigan? ... Up to SF to lure him. It's doing a very effective job.

knows JH's 2nd cousin, who claims he would bet his life on JH coming to Michigan.  Of course, none of my 2nd cousins really know much about me, so I don't put much stock in it.  I hope JH comes, but if not, there are other coaches out there.....

... brings this quote by William Goldman to mind.  He was a screenwriter talking about Hollywood, and it is apt regarding sports reporters talking about DB and JH:

"Nobody knows anything."

who loves Michigan turn us down when we have lost 7x in a row to the Hideous Minions of Evil? Wouldn't that be like Frodo saying "screw the Shire" and going with the elves instead rescuing Middle Earth?
