Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that from the Freep article.

Cant say I'd be in favor of playing DG in any situation for this game. After all it is technically a exhibition. Im not sure playing him against MSU is really worth not having him for an additional year.
December 30th, 2010 at 6:32 PM ^
December 30th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
The exhibition is for RR's job and this will not go well for him if Tate is unable to play.
IMO after reading the article Tate was headed out after the year anyway.

You really have to try to flunk out here. All you have to do is go to class, it's not that hard.
Note: I don't believe the reason has been confirmed yet. Angelique's assumption is grades. @chengelis

I'd assume they need to meet NCAA standards. They're higher than simply passing.
December 30th, 2010 at 6:55 PM ^
December 30th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
it has to be. I find it very coincidental that Oregon and Auburn are in the MNC. Two schools that are as easy to get into as a JC.
December 30th, 2010 at 7:13 PM ^
I'd seriously doubt it. This is the best I could find. I'd be seriously surprised if Michigan had a higher standard. A 1.8 or 1.9 is really bad, but it's passing and there's worse out there. There are lots of Freshman that have seriously awful first years and need to dig out of a big hole. Why would athletes need better?

To maintain eligibility to practice and compete, all student-athletes must:
- Maintain full-time enrollment of 12 credits (3 units) for undergraduates.
- Earn 6 credits (1.5 units) in the preceding REGULAR academic term.
- Earn a minimum number of credits each year. Rising sophomores must earn 24 credits (6 units) in the preceding (freshman) academic year, at least 18 credits (4.5 units) of which must be completed during the regular academic terms (fall and spring). All other undergraduates must earn 18 credits (4.5 units) in the preceding academic year.
- Declare a major by the beginning of the third year of full-time enrollment (at this point, all credits used to satisfy continuing eligibility standards MUST be degree-countable).
- Maintain satisfactory progress toward a degree. Student-athletes enrolling full-time in August, 2003 or later must complete 40%, 60%, and 80% of degree requirements by the beginning of their third, fourth, and fifth years, respectively, of full-time enrollment. Satisfactory progress rules are first applied at the completion of two years of full-time enrollment.
- Maintain a satisfactory GPA. For student-athletes enrolling in August, 2003 or later, the cumulative GPA must be 1.80 or better for those entering their second year of full-time enrollment, 1.9 or better for those entering their third year of full-time enrollment, and 2.0 or better for those entering their four year or beyond of full-time enrollment.

all that challenging. How many lessons about work ethic does this guy need before he gets it? I feel bad for him but every bit of adversity he's faced this year has resulted from self-inflicted wounds.
December 30th, 2010 at 6:57 PM ^
I know in Division II you have to have at least a 2.0 GPA in order to be eligible.

Could this be a sign Harbaugh is on his way, bringing his higher academic standards with him? JKJKJKJK

If Denard goes down, we could still feasibly play DG. However, DG might sustain a freak injury... yes?

jack squat about 'The Team, The Team, The Team concept!', sorry, but that's the way I feel, he can transfer as far as I am concerned, free up another roster spot.
December 30th, 2010 at 7:14 PM ^
that **might** be the case if his schedule reads:
classic civ: greek and roman sports
anthro 101: conrad kotak's (expensive) lesson on the world of textbook economics
physed 216: first aid and safety
amcult 222: ojibwe
but im not about to jump on the kid's back for having trouble juggling the schedule of a michigan quarterback with the rigors of a michigan education. not exactly an easy task. and guys like luck (architecture and QB at a place like stanford) are the exception versus the rule.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:51 PM ^
im not about to jump on the kid's back for having trouble juggling the schedule of a michigan quarterback with the rigors of a michigan education.OK then I will. He didn't show up for workouts or school. It's not like one was distracting him from the other. As soon as it was clear he wasn't going to be in the spotlight, he checked out as a player and student.
December 31st, 2010 at 5:12 AM ^
He didn't check out when he helped us beat Illinois in triple overtime.

Why does God hate Rrod?
December 30th, 2010 at 7:05 PM ^
Cuz God is getting annoyed at people that say "In Rod we Trust"

Yeah, that one more than likely over quite a few heads here.

DG. You simply cannot.
December 30th, 2010 at 6:37 PM ^
I don't know if it would even be legal. They've already said he's too injured to play, right?
December 30th, 2010 at 6:41 PM ^
Nope. You file the medical redshirts after the season, I believe.
December 30th, 2010 at 6:45 PM ^
Its been widely reported he's been in full practice mode all bowl season. He's been running the Scout O to simulate MSU QB Relf
December 30th, 2010 at 6:56 PM ^
Does the practicing already preclude a redshirt?
December 30th, 2010 at 7:47 PM ^
Pretty sure Redshirts only deal with actual game time... practice time doesn't matter

Per some guy named oldmancoyote22 on Angelique's twitter:
Maybe Tate should have gotten a tattoo instead of taking 16 credits? Then he'd be bowl eligible.

Jack Kennedy will get the nod. He'll send the MSU defense to the grass(y knoll) with his electrifying charisma. Maybe he'll have a pregame speech that will inspire a new era to the peace corps. He'll lead the team into a successful BAY OF WOLVERINES invasion of Jacksonville. Okay, I'm done.
December 30th, 2010 at 6:54 PM ^
That you were able to show off your history knowledge on this blog? Do you think that some girl is reading this and is now willing to take off her clothes by your cute "bay of wolverines" comment?
