Daydrian Taylors brutal hit
Getting fired up for the game started watching some old highlights anyone remember Daydrian Taylors hit on Penn St. TE. Penn St. player was a sizable kid, running at full speed down the sideline and taylor like a missle blasts in and knocks him flat on his back. I f someone can do me a favor and post you video of it,( don't know how to) would be great. Damn, we need to get back to playing mean, nasty, in your face defense like that again. Best part, it was on the Penn St. sideline, they kind of looked at each other like"God Damn, these guys came to play". Anybody got any others.

Most brutal/least recognized hit in ALL football history. If you've played or understand physics, you can appreciate this incredible lick. Bob Stephenson (#80) expected the secondary to shove him out of bounds after a few easy yards. Instead, Daydrion Taylor (#28), 2 inches & 30 lbs his minor, put him on his BACK in mid-air. Taylor broke a bone in his neck and Stephenson would still be learning to walk a year later. Neither remember the actual hit. Neither would play again

I remember the hit well and have described it to my 13 yesr old son as the most brutal, but legal hit I have ever seen. I really thought that one or both of the players would suffer permanent damage. It was after that hit (before I knew of the outcome to the players) that I felt like we would not lose a game that year.
The good part is that no one was permanently injured (as far as I know), though, sadly, two college football careers ended. The human body can only withstand so much, luckily and somewhat surprisingly...they're bodies survived that one.

I was that game. It was my first ever college football game. Even though I was only in 5th grade, I remember that hit like it was yesterday. It was scary. I remember my dad instantly saying that he hopes those guys get up and play again. Unfortunately, they didnt. Even though I got to see my Charles Woodson play in person,( my favorite player at the time and the reason I wore #2) and Michigan won, it kind of put a damper on the game. You never want to see that happen especially when ur 11 years old.

I remember that hit so well
I was playing football with my friends that day
then after that went home and we ordered pizza for the game
When that hit happened, my friend dropped the plate of pizza he had in his hand !
Crazy

Clear Good Guy (Brandon Graham) vs. Bad Guy (Glenn Winston) scenario. Clean, but thoroughly brutal, hit. No injuries, but still managed to knock him the f*ck out.

But I fucking love that hit

like he was tackling during a practice drill against a padded stand-up.
It should be mounted into a trophy at the point of impact and handed out to every player in the NFL who gets fined for Helmet to Helmet.
He was so bad ass!

Best 2 things - the fact that the annoucer is all over winston before it. "Here comes winston the big back, this kid is huge!!@#@!#!@"
Then, after the hit, Winston goes to get up... and has to relax, BG knocked the wind out of him so hard... Love that hit
December 21st, 2010 at 9:42 PM ^
much better than that. BG stopped him dead in his tracks and stretched him out like a flag flying in a stiff breeze. The announcers managed to do a nice job describing it, too.

at that end of the end zone with my brother. We both jumped up, saying, " Whoa that hurt". Our entire section of Blue and State fans were buzzing about that hit.

My favorite aspect of the hit is ALL of it, but especially the part at the end where to push himself up BG uses Winston's head for leverage and pushes GWs head into the ground.
This gives GW a moment to collect his thoughts and fillings and think about the kids he beat up in the dorms and wonder if it was worth it....
Great hit!

Can you believe he starts for the Raiders as a rookie? Someday we'll look back at the talent on that D and say" how were we so bad":
BG,
StevieB,
Mike Martin,
JoMouton,
Donovan Warren,
TWoolf,
RVB... Oh yeah, we actually had a place kicker and a Zoltan
Baffling!

To answer your question.......EZEH. You cannot even begin to compare to the talent on the D of last year with any of our "great" Ds in the past. Look at the talent on the 06 team or 97 team and tell me there is any sort of comparison. Theyre not even close.

a much better example from that game of a tackle that set the tone.

So much talent, what a team!
Many players on that team went on to have long productive NFL careers...amazing.
Very cool!

I'm a fan of the following:

it is so strange that ezeh is on the field for that. seems like a decade ago.

Only thing that rivaled that for me was Zia Combs getting decimated in the Washington (I think) game in '02. Eeriest part was after they finally got him off the field, they had to come back and dig around the turf for the screws from when they took the facemask off his helmet.

Would love to see a where are they now on Daydrion. That is the most memorable hit for me in my lifetime. I remember thinking please get up.

BIGGEST and hardest hit in all of football. May God comfort each of their souls. What a shame to end 2 wonderful careers in one play.

that is a gutsy play by Taylor. Doesn't hesitate for a moment.

Me too. I was a PSU fan at the time (my brother was a student there and I was only in high school please forgive). It was stomach turning to see up close. It made me fear Michigan at the time.

This is more an advertisement for the end of football than for how to play football. Thankfully 99.9% of hits aren't like that.

May my wife never see that hit if I want my son to be able to play football when he grows up. Wow.

I got to admit that when I first saw it I was thrilled by it.. But in hindsight I recognize that such a reaction was not appropriate. That clearly wasa dangerous hit. You don't want to see any permanent injuries to these guys.
Man, it is a tough game. But I love it. It saddens me to know that there is less than two months of football left.
December 22nd, 2010 at 1:34 AM ^
as much as the next guy. But whenever I watch that one I simply think "My god. Seriously, are they both dead?" I honestly didn't know (or at least couldn't remember) that neither player's career survived that hit. And even without knowing that, I never felt...comfortable watching the play.

Best part, it was on the Penn St. sideline, they kind of looked at each other like"God Damn, these guys came to play".
I'm pretty sure they were more like "Oh shit somebody get the stretcher."

I am the original poster of the Taylor hit on youtube. It took me quite some while to find the content and share it with the world. Like most of you, I can remember where I was standing when I saw that play and have never seen anything close to it either in college or pro. When I originally posted the clip I pondered whether it was the right thing to do given the unfortunate result of the play. So my question to the true blue fans out there is, should I take the clip down out of respect for both players and programs involved?
