Bowl Games Open Thread (non-Michigan)
There are already a bunch of threads, and more to come, on Michigan's Match-up in the Gator. But I thought we could use a catch all to discuss the other games, BCS games, Big Ten Games, and other Bowl Games of interest, so we don't get a new thread every time a bowl match up leaks. And through the Bowl Game Announcement shows on ESPN in about an hour. (One of the other threads already says it's OSU/Arkansas). So if you hear anything, read anything, or have a reaction to anything after it's announced, let's discuss.

I coulda' sworn he said, "ND,...blah-blah-blah, ND, blah-blah-blah...lisp, or something like that. Oh, sorry, I guess I might have tuned him out after his comments about UConn & Oklahoma. Has he woke up yet?

Fiesta Bowl... yuck.
Oklahoma is gonna wreck UConn. Down with the BCS!!
December 5th, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
is this the worst BCS line up ever?

It is pretty damn ugly.

Oregon v Auburn (duh)
Wisky v TCU
OSU v Arkansas
Stanford v VT
Oklahoma v U-Conn

Like the Big Ten chances, Stanford should be able to take VT...and OU finally found a team they shouldn't choke against in a bowl.

Oklahoma shouldn't choke against UConn, but I wouldn't put it past them.

I may be biased, but VT looks like they're hitting their stride, and Tyrod Taylor is settling down as a QB. Not to mention they have 3 runningbacks averaging 50+ yards per game and they have the usual Lunch Pail defense. I think this will be a good game.
I will be rooting for UConn as usual.

scenario if VT kicks Stanford in the teeth?

Nebraska vs. Washington
Washington is way overmatched in this one.
35th ranked total offense vs. 84th ranked total defense.
75th ranked total offense vs. 10th ranked total defense.
Bloodbath.

That's dumb. They already played each other this season with Nebraska winning 56-21 in Seattle.
Why is a 9-3 team playing a 6-6 team?
December 5th, 2010 at 8:45 PM ^
I would imagine that USC not being bowl eligible has something to do with it. Also, the Pac-10 sent two teams to the BCS, so the Pac-10 is probably having a tough time filling all of its bowl commitments.
Not a very exciting matchup though.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
Nope. Not a great matchup at all. But looking at the PAC 10, outside of Oregon and Stanford, there aren't any great teams. The third place team is Arizona who is 7-5.

I think that's why I'd lean toward Auburn taking the national championship. Oregon beat Stanford, but outside of that, they haven't played anybody who is very good, whereas Auburn went undefeated in the SEC West, which is stacked this year.
Not saying that Oregon doesn't deserve to be where they are, I think they are a very good team, but Auburn just has more experience against tough competition.

I think I can skip watching that one.

this is the dumbest thing ive ever seen
bowl season is a chance to see cool matchups we dont get very often and we get a rematch of a beatdown.
Nebraska fans have to be pissed. From the fiesta bowl to this crap. Well i guess they woulda played a crappy uconn team anyways.
December 5th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
Funny how they have a big hyped show to announce one meaningful game and a bunch of "who cares" crap games. The selection show would be so much better if they were revealing a 16 team playoff bracket.

Herbstreit just said he loves Cam Newton's smile. How can he even talk about smiles without you know who...

Saban vs MSU.
December 5th, 2010 at 9:10 PM ^
I get my favorite non-Michigan matchup: Pros vs Cons.
Good subplot with Saban having dumped MSU when the administration meddled in his business too much. Also, it's great to see MSU have to face a quality team on a neutral field. I have a feeling the Spartybragging won't be nearly as loud after this game as it will before.

December 5th, 2010 at 9:38 PM ^
It cost them $3mill and each team in their conference $625K:

SBNation Detroit has a good compilation of all the Bowl Games.
