Great Article Highlighting Seniors Remarks from the Bust

I just read this a little while ago. It's really sad that this type of reporting was overshadowed by some bullshit song story.

A shame a coach felt he had to plea to save his job in such a public manner. Rodriguez decided he wasn't going to be Brandon's backup plan in case Harbaugh tells him to pound sand.
Rodriguez > Brandon
Amazing how revered an AD can be when inaction is his forte. Dee Hart isn't impressed.

Thanks again for your input, Sparty troll.
I respect the amount of effort required for you to twist a number of disjointed facts to fit some arbitrary point you're trying to make. Dedication, my friend. You've got it!

Hey aaamichfan, this is off topic but who is that in your avatar?

Wow. That's what I was thinking but his head looks too big to be Braylon. Guess its the beard.
December 3rd, 2010 at 9:12 PM ^
It looks like braylon edwards dressed up in a fidel castro outfit.

I am truly and honestly amazed that you have compiled (almost) minus-600 points.

Tight end Jon Bills, who was seriously injured in a car accident six months ago: “So many teammates came to visit me in the hospital that they were sent into my room in shifts. Coach Rodriguez came every day.”
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:13 PM ^
Funny how we never heard about Rich Rod's devotion to his players, even the ones not in the limelight.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:15 PM ^
Because it bears repeating:
Tight end Jon Bills, who was seriously injured in a car accident six months ago: “So many teammates came to visit me in the hospital that they were sent into my room in shifts. Coach Rodriguez came every day.”
Not a Michigan Man. Belittles his players. Abuses his players.
Not a Michigan Man.
I wonder if it keeps getting repeated it'll start being true one day.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
is that he feels he has to say he wants to be a Michigan Man, or has some sense in which he's not there or whatever.
He is a Michigan Man. His character is strong. He doesn't have to make a case, because the case is being made by his actions.
December 3rd, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
It's sad and telling, IMO , that he has to ask to be accepted as a Michigan Man (whatever that really means). The criticism of this guy has gotten to the point where it is ridiculous; anything he does, good or bad, is grounds for the UNACCEPTABLE crowd to start flipping out.
I'm as unhappy as the next person about the losses and NCAA violations, but things are just getting out of hand.
December 3rd, 2010 at 9:28 PM ^
Jeez man, if you were treated the way he's been treated, would you consider yourself all that well-accepted? Like someone else said, if he'd gotten up there and said "I'm a Michigan Man" the same people would be bashing him for his presumptuousness.
Unfortunately, the case isn't being made by his actions. Well, it is to me - I do consider myself a Rich Rodriguez fan. But he's been painted as a win-at-all-costs philistine, and that's largely been done by a crowd of irony-deficient clowns who want him gone for not winning enough. And no amount of hospital visits or Mealer stories can change their minds.
December 3rd, 2010 at 10:53 PM ^
No matter what Rich Rod Says or does he will be bashed by the bashers that are making thier entire living solely on bashing him. If Brandon keeps him, he could go 11-1 and they will continue to bash him after every press conference and call for his head on the chopping block after the one loss.
The only chance, and its probably not possible, is to stop listening to the bash.
97.1 is no longer a preset in my cars.
December 3rd, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
I think of a Michigan Man as not so much an achievable status, but instead a goal for all Michigan - affiliated wo/men to aspire to. Bo, Yost, Ford, Ward, etc - they all embodied so many good things - its impossible for one person to demonstrate all of those characteristics all of the time.
So - I think him suggesting that he wants to be a Michigan Man - not that he is one - shows that he understands becoming a Michigan Man is a lifelong journey - it's not an overnight thing.

Guard Steve Schilling: “As Coach Schembechler said, ‘Those who stay will be champions.’ We may not have the rings to show for it, but in my eyes, we are all champions.”
No one could have said it better. These seniors may have lost more than they won, but, they set a championship example for their younger teammates. Thank you for staying and leading!

Any budding authors out there? Go get their story now, there is a book in it.

December 3rd, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
but I couldn't concentrate today. All I was writing in my head was a letter to Brandon, a letter to RichRod, and then I realized the only way I could help was write a screenplay so more than just us MgoBloggers and his team and his family know what he's all about. Poor guy. He only wants the drama on the field. I wish all those journalists (and I use the term loosely) would admit they're writing fiction. I will stop my rant now and write a play about something pleasant. Like WWII. (It was only caused by insanity, not pettiness and spite.)
Oh. Sorry. Pollyanna is back. Can't write his story until we know the happy ending. And I still hope his happy ending will be at Michigan.

have to laugh after i catch myself reading comments like those. Pure ignorance in those folks right there!
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
Pure ignorance in those folks right there!
Can you clarify to whom you are referring here? I'm thinking you didn't mean to say the seniors were exhibiting pure ignorance -- but I've got my finger on the neg bomb trigger and its itching.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:35 PM ^
But I believe he's talking about the comments from the comment section of the article.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
I thought the same thing, but he/she is referring to the comments on the linked article from the OP. Some real fine gentlemen on there...
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:53 PM ^
the article itself. I would never talk down on these seniors! But the folks that commented on the article where being very ignorant. Sorry for the misunderstanding

Re: Zac Ciullo who is going to M Law School...
“I’ve already used all the attorneys I need,” said Rodriguez...“I hope I never need to use him.”
Then after Ciullo's moving speech:
“Wow, he’s good...I could have used you.”
After all Coach Rod has been through, he's still able to laugh at himself. That's character.
December 3rd, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
others claim demonstrates he is self-centered. I heard that comment on the radio and read it in the media. It really is distressing.
December 3rd, 2010 at 10:36 PM ^
I don't think it's about being self-centered, there was just no reason for him to continue making self-deprecating remarks. The stuff about how the money is nice and his pool is nice and miss Rita likes nice things, that just didn't need to be said.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:27 PM ^
After reading what Bills had to say I am sickened by the fact that ESPN and all the local media outlets only reported on what they thought was a "sissy" song.
Wow... seriously, THAT is what the media outlets took from such a wonderful night... Not being sarcastic at all when I say I am shocked. Truly deplorable.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
I'm just sad that I'm not shocked even a little bit.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^
In reading the comments section there, it just reiterates to me that people will spin anything to fit what they already believe. It is very rare to actually change someone's mind with facts, rationale, or new information. The fact that someone could read that and think honestly to themselves
Geez, 'I’ve already used all the attorneys I need...I hope I never need to use him.'? Does RR ever think about anyone other than himself?
is mind-boggling yet dishearteningly unsurprising.
Those who hate RR and think he is a terrible awful man who has "repeatedly thrown all of his players under the bus" will not change their minds no matter what any students, alumni, or coaches say. People only see the information that corellates to the opinion they already have.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
And yeah, I love this coach, too.
December 3rd, 2010 at 8:58 PM ^
I hope we go out and destroy our bowl opponent so all the haters will shut their mouths.
December 3rd, 2010 at 9:02 PM ^
And give these seniors a send off as memorable as the last bowl game we played in. We could all use a memorable upset - and they deserve it just as much as the 2007 class did.
December 3rd, 2010 at 9:18 PM ^
I wish RR and the Seniors were on this blog so I could +1 them to infinity.
December 3rd, 2010 at 9:23 PM ^
December 3rd, 2010 at 9:21 PM ^
this team will come out and shock the nation by there performance. I think the defense will look a lot better. I think this team will come out and smack who ever there playing in the mouth and end all this coaching speculation.
December 3rd, 2010 at 10:50 PM ^
December 3rd, 2010 at 11:13 PM ^
I've wanted RR gone since day 1 cause IMO he's not got what it takes to be the HC of Michigan. Nor of OSU, ALabama, Texas, etc. Nothing personal.
But, he has taken far too much shit, nearly every bit of it undeserved. Lot of assholes out there.

Maybe this is the Two Hearted Ale talking, but this article makes me sigh. The reason is because I feel like we're about to dismiss a great coach and, more importantly, an honorable man for intellectually unsound reasons.
It would be different if we were talking about an unproven shot in the dark, but that is not at all the case. It's intellectually dishonest to discount what Rodriguez did at WVU and assume that his program doesn't translate to the Big Ten.
Yes, there are clear issues with the defense. People who criticize Rodriguez's coaching aren't unreasonable because, yes, he has probably made some mistakes. No coach is perfect. Ask Gators, Longhorns, and Tigers (LSU) what they think about their championship-winning coaches.
I'm a proud alum of our great university and I will always support our football program. Yet my greatest fear is that an honorable man and a great football coach is about to be driven out of town because he never got a fair chance because a nebulous faction of former players, boosters, and crybaby alums with money unilaterally and prematurely decided that Rodriguez was somehow not fit to coach at Michigan.
The great part about the mgoblog community is its (by and large) adherence to reason as a guiding principle. Brian Cook's official position is that he thinks Rodriguez should get another year, but he won't be upset if he gets dismissed. I don't think it's approprate to adopt a decidely amoral position when speaking from such a self-proclaimed moral high ground.
If reason tilts us toward retention, even slightly so, then at some point doing the right thing should play a factor. The RIGHT THING TO DO would be to give a talented and morally upstanding coach a legitimate chance to created and operate a program worthy of Michigan.
