OT- Gruden To Be Next Canes Coach
I think Gruden will tear it up at Miami...I would have taken Gruden over Harbaugh...But i dont think RR is going anywhere.

DIdn't he debunk this sharply a few days ago? Interesting.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:58 PM ^
This is a new development. Sounds like its close http://miami.rivals.com/

He said that he would stay at Monday Night Football, but didn't outright deny any interest in the Miami job.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:16 PM ^
But i dont think RR is going anywhere.
If he couldn't resist, I couldn't.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:34 PM ^
It's cool, jhackney, you can spare the MGoPoints, and I enjoyed it, so thanks.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:48 PM ^
That Bill Cowher will be teaching Philosophy 118 and 209 at the U. Ill keep ya informed.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
The biggest winner in all of this? Jaws. He's got to be loving he won't have to take Gruden's shit anymore on MNF. The tension between the two is extraordinary.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:52 PM ^
see them last night? They were really going after each other. I think Jaws said something along the lines of "You need to go back to coaching!"...then awkward laughs.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:58 PM ^
Was it "I'm going to stab you in the face with this commeorative pen from M&T Bank Stadium" tension, or was it "I'm going to run my fingers through that beaitful perm as we make sweet love on some crushed Dasani bottles" tension? Just, um, asking.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:02 PM ^
Biggest winner in all of this is Eric Mangini.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:56 PM ^
No, biggest winners are Meyer and Fisher--and whoever hires Dan Mullen. I have zero confidence this is going to work unless someone gets him some great college level coordinators and someone to manage the players on South Beach.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:52 PM ^
I wonder if he can bench 6 QBs in one season in Miami?
Be prepared for trips and TE movement!!! CONFUSIONS!!!1!!
November 30th, 2010 at 9:53 PM ^
RT @Manny_Navarro: Canesport.com reporting that barring a last minute glitch Gruden to #UM is a done deal. Stay tuned.

NFL players everywhere just had their self-esteems plummet. Gruden's penchant for ridiculous hyperbole could make any journeyman bum sound like a 12-time Pro Bowler.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
congrats on the 10,000 mgopoints. Next round is on me.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:36 PM ^
First rule of mgopoints is don't do what I did higher up in this thread.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:55 PM ^
Gruden might end up being the next Charlie Weis if he takes this job.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
I agree. His coaching style doesn't seem like it would mesh well with kids, IMO. He does know what it takes to get to the NFL though (If you ask ESPN anyway) so he should get talent... and sometimes talent is all you need.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:58 PM ^
I agree. Seems to me like a guy who may have trouble with the "recruiting/player development" portion.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^
Is that avatar from the web or is that you?
November 30th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
I guess it's possible that aaamichfan is actually Braylon Edwards...
December 1st, 2010 at 2:10 AM ^
Braylon? I thought that was Fidel?!
November 30th, 2010 at 10:44 PM ^
I don't know about the development part, but I think he's going to recruit the hizell out of the state of Florida. Kids are gonna love this dude...
December 1st, 2010 at 12:40 AM ^
I'm confident that he'll get some serious talent, but I'm not sure if he can develop the "glue" players on the team. Given that Miami is in the ACC though, he might be on quite a long leash.
December 1st, 2010 at 4:54 AM ^
I'm confident that he'll get some serious talent
Just above you said that that will be a problem for him. You're wrong so deal with it.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:00 PM ^
Yeah I suppose if he fails he could be the next Charlie Weis or Bill Callahan, or up to this point Lane Kiffin. Miami is a much easier job than ND Dame though. You have a junk conference and you are in a prime recruiting state with admissions being relatively lax.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:02 PM ^
Dave Wannstedt. Good coach, gets some positive results. But never over that major hump to perennial top 10.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:37 PM ^
Gruden's frame could never, ever support that much useless fat/blubber.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:48 PM ^
He should stick to being a color commentator
December 1st, 2010 at 7:41 AM ^
At least Gruden has a personality and some fire about him, unlike Jabba Weis.
December 1st, 2010 at 9:56 AM ^
are really the only ones nowadays that will put up with that. Weis, despite his bluster, was actually very easy on the kids at ND, and Gruden will not be. That and his knowledge IMO will make him and excellent college coach.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
what happened to the whole "I'm committed to MNF" thing?
November 30th, 2010 at 9:58 PM ^
say Dennis Miller is making a comeback. I would take him over you know who...
November 30th, 2010 at 10:38 PM ^
Well, shit, if he coaches Miami on Saturdays, he is still free on Monday nights. Bonus.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
Has Randy Shannon interviewed for our DC position yet?
November 30th, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
That would be pretty damn awesome.
November 30th, 2010 at 9:59 PM ^
I dont see that happening till after the bowl game. Would Gruden Coach the bowl game? that would be sweet.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:09 PM ^
Would it?
November 30th, 2010 at 10:18 PM ^
I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I know Shannon has been a DC in the past and had good success.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:30 PM ^
During Shannon's six years as UM's defensive coordinator, his defenses ranked as follows in total defense nationally:
2001 - 6th
2002 - 7th
2003 - 2nd
2004 - 28th
2005- 4th
2006 - 7th
November 30th, 2010 at 10:39 PM ^
Those are some sexy numbers.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:45 PM ^
That's some bullzhit. We're MICHIGAN. We don't serve 28th around here.
November 30th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
But those teams played against effete Big East and ACC types. We all know those defenses would crumble in the face of the mountainous beefcake linemen and running backs of BIG TEN POWAH FOOTBAW.
November 30th, 2010 at 11:27 PM ^
I was waiting for someone to mention the level of competition (which you did in hilarious fashion). It's funny to think back and remember that the Big East was actually once a pretty well-respected conference, before VT, Miami, and BC bolted for the ACC.
December 1st, 2010 at 12:49 AM ^
Those are some sexy numbers and I would be all for him being our DC. My only question is how much of that was his ability or was it him having a 2 deep of NFL talent his first couple years.
December 1st, 2010 at 2:26 AM ^
He probably recruited at least some of that talent from 05 and 06...
December 1st, 2010 at 9:58 AM ^
It would be great, so great that it'll never happen.
