OT - New Oregon Basketball Floor
I'm sure many of you will catch this on yahoo sports but what does everyone think of the new Oregon basketball court? Tinker Hatfield (or Air Jordan design and fame) came up with the concept. Being a traditionalist, I think it's too much.

Much like their uniforms, it's like Hot Topic designed it.

You can never say that Oregon doesn't take chances with design. Of course, you can also never say that Oregon is one for subtelty.

could've come up with a better design using MS Paint

I hope that Oregon's team for their own sake practices a lot on that floor to get used to it. I think that floor will throw off a lot of visiting opponents and be a little bit of an advantage for the home team - you really can't see the lines out there.
I agree with the other posters that it is an interesting concept, but certainly not something for Michigan anytime soon.

I really like the court, and that's coming from someone who hates everything about the way Oregon dresses its football team. UVA visits Oregon next year, I'll be looking forward to seeing the look on TV.

are drab. I wonder if players will find it distracting? Having your dribble come down on a white space then a brown space could hypothetically cause someone to lose their dribble.

the playing surface shouldn't distract from the game, and basketball courts are getting WAY too distracting. The NCAA needs to step in and set some boundaries concerning what can be graphically delicious.

From the press release:
"Floor was manufactured in the upper peninsula of Michigan in the town of Amasa, Mich."
Further article perusals reveal:
"The floor was built by Connor Sports Flooring, a Michigan company that does the playing floors for all NCAA playoff games and more than half of the new college stadiums in the country."
Pure Michigan.

...to the good folks in the UP that are nationally known for the quality of their basketball flooring.
It's always great to see something positive about the state of Michigan in the media because there are so many smart, hard-working people that live there.

Looks good. Kinda funny how the very thing, the forest of trees, they are paying tribute to on the court was destroyed (for wood, materials, etc.) to build a brand new arena and a brand new floor when they had a perfectly good arena that just needed an overhaul.

I like the concept...except for the fact that its damn near unplayable from a visiting team stand point. You can see any of the bounds lines!

Pretty cool - will be interesting to see how it looks on TV
