Mike Hart: NFL Fantasy Pick?
This came up on the sidebar for my fantasy football website:
"Indianapolis Colts RB Mike Hart could be asked to carry the load in Week 8 against the Houston Texans if RBs Joseph Addai (shoulder) and Donald Brown (hamstring) are unable to play, according to The Indianapolis Star's Phillip B. Wilson. 'It's kind of a day-to-day situation. If he doesn't go, obviously Mike Hart has to be the guy to step it up a little bit, and Javarris James will have to carry a few duties as well,' head coach Jim Caldwell said."
I hope he has 100+ yards and a couple of TDs.

The the couple of games that he's had to carry the load, he's been solid. Here's hoping it continues!

For an every-down back, you want someone with the mental tools that doesn't cough up the ball. You don't straight up run away from a lot of guys in the NFL, so missing that top-end speed isn't a deal-breaker.
Mike Hart at Michigan always made best use of his blocks, was pretty good at changing direction, and was excellent with ball security.
In an offense - like Indy's - where they play so much pass, a couple blocks can spring free a decent gain.
Plus, the guy is a surprisngly good pass blocker, I still remember some giant hits on Dan Connor in (IIRC) the '07 PSU game.
He definitely can still impress.

Bye weeks have forced me to pick him up and start him in one of my leagues.
100+ yards and a couple touchdowns would make me ecstatic.

1 td and 20 yards. And yes I think I might start him over Tolbert
October 29th, 2010 at 7:57 AM ^
Tolbert's actually the guy I dropped to pick Hart up. I don't want anything to do with the San Diego backfield anymore.

I did that exact same thing. The bye week is killing me - both LeSean McCoy and Matt Forte are on a bye this week and I am scrambling. My heart is with Hart. I hope he comes through for me!

LeSean McCoy and Ahmad Bradshaw are on a bye week. I am starting Ronnie Brown(whom I just picked up in the wavier wire) and Donald Brown. I'm hoping that Brown is healthy but I am sure that the Colts will split carries for both Brown and Hart. I'm in a 17 team league and Hart has been picked up a week ago much to my dismay.

I have 2 rbs on bye and he has one of the highest projected totals. Hope D Brown is out too. They played the Chiefs a couple games ago and it was fun watching him play again.

i grabbed him a few days ago :\

The more former Michigan players on your team, the better your team will be! IMO

I used to work at an old fantasy company (Sandbox.com) and for our fantasy draft, my buddy used that route. His team featured:
Elvis Grbac (QB)
Tyrone Wheatley (RB)
Derrick Alexander (RB)
Amani Toomer (WR)
Chris Howard (RB)
Mark Campbell (TE)
Charles Woodson (D) *
Sam Sword (D) *
Back then we drafted defensive players.
This was 2000. His team looked awesome and played great when you threw them together on Madden. Amazingly, they were never able to put it together in fantasy. Go figure. I guess Leroy Hoard retiring in 1999 was the deathblow for his squad.

You can draft defensive players on Fleaflicker.com. I don't know about other fantasy football sites though.
October 29th, 2010 at 1:44 PM ^
ESPN allows you to do that if you create a league on there. You can't do that with their standard leagues though.

Zoltan is owned in 5% of ESPN leagues. I'm sure he's the top punter.

We used to love Sandbox until they went to a pay site. It forced my league to move over to Yahoo, unfortunately.
And you're right - I was one of those guys that used to load up with Michigan players and my team always sucked. It really bummed me out.

...blaming me for them going to SandboxPlus (pay site)! It was a great site and great system. The pay thing happened once the whole internet advertising game went south. Too much overhead for a free site.

Im playing against him this week. I tried to get him but was to far back on the waiver wire. I have 2 WR's going on Monday night and he will have Hart.
October 29th, 2010 at 7:25 AM ^
I hope Mario Williams eats him alive next week, but that's so my employers are victorious. May he run for 100+ yards and 2 TDs every week after this upcoming Monday.
October 29th, 2010 at 8:21 AM ^
Whaaaaaat? FA, you're better than that, man. Take a look into these eyes and tell me you still feel that way.
October 29th, 2010 at 9:56 AM ^
I'm paid by the Texans to make sure our fans have the best time they can. This decision is purely fiscal, as when the Texans win, my job is MUCH easier.
Ugh... and the SI jinx that came from that cover. THE HORROR! [chills down spine]
October 29th, 2010 at 10:23 AM ^
But sir... Mike Hart can rush for 120, 2 tds, and colts still lose...Williams can light up Manning or anyone else, just not Hart. When Brady or Henne come into town to play the jets... i hope they torch the Jets, but Jets still prevail.
Also, awesome job though.

I like seeing Michigan as a preseason #6.
October 29th, 2010 at 7:49 AM ^
i'm starting him at my flex. but if i find out donald brown is going to start or share carries, i will turn to buffalo's fred jackson. either way, theres a UM connection kinda sorta.
October 29th, 2010 at 9:14 AM ^
In the past, he has looked solid in his limited duties. Now with the bulk of the carries, he can show INDY that he could be the feature back that they need
October 29th, 2010 at 10:00 AM ^
Michael Turner and Lesean Mccoy both have byes this week for me so Hart is getting the start for me. What concerns me is Addai and Brown both have an extra day to get healthy since it's a Monday night game but Hart won't let me down.
October 29th, 2010 at 10:10 AM ^
I always thought he could be an NFL back. He had decent power for a guy his size and while he wasn't exactly a speed demon, he could be shifty and avoid tackles when necessary. He definitely had the mentality (Hello, Lil' Bro!)
October 29th, 2010 at 10:24 AM ^
I picked him up in my league (I also picked up Donald Brown earlier in the week) and have him in my lineup (along with Ryan Torain). Hopefully they give updates on Monday NFL Countdown right up to the last minute about Brown or Hart starting.
I also have Fred Jackson (of Buffalo), but they face the Chiefs, who have one of the best run defenses in the league. Plus, they usually fall behind, which is why I picked up Fitzpatrick for this week (Matt Ryan and Vick have byes).
Anyway, Houston has a terrible defense, so I think Hart could do some good things, and frankly, could jump in front of Brown on the depth chart with a few good games. Brown can't seem to stay healthy.
October 29th, 2010 at 10:26 AM ^
he played NY State Class C ball.........and was a god. He pursued Michigan, not the other way 'round. the hyped back from his freshman class was Max Martin.

It would be nice to see him get some yards but in that offense, he will earn his keep by protecting Peyton. Which is good - fantasy wise I have Wayne and Garson. I tried picking up Hart as well since I'm in the lot with alot of people here, won't know if I get him till Sat AM.
