I see it, Illinois plays a good defense, that's their forte. But, then again, so did Iowa, and look at what we did against them. We'll be able to score against them, we can do that against anyone.
What we have to account for is Leshoure and make sure we keep him contained. They don't really have a good pass offense, which is good for us. They're rushing offense isn't bad though, and thats where we have to worry.

We had 7 points going into the 4th quarter. Yes, it was a great effort to come back when they let their guard down, but I don't know that "look what we did against them" is appropriate to say.
October 23rd, 2010 at 2:36 PM ^
550 yards of offense against them. The reason we only had 7 points were those damn turnovers. If we cut down on those, we win the game.
Theres no guarantee that we cut down on those turnovers, though, so you're right, it might not be an appropriate thing to say. But I think our offense did a lot better than expected against a top 10 ranked defense.

In general, I would take my chances on Michigan prevailing when we gain 550 yards against anyone.
The ball security is key.

I agree, you can't put a whole lot into the fact that Iowa just started sitting back.

BEAT PSU FIRST
We'll cross that road when it comes.

we are neither players nor coaches, I see no problem in looking forward to a tough game that should be the most difficult of the upcoming three.

It's a little early for the chicken little UConn themed threads re: Illinois...isn't it?
October 23rd, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
We're screwed teams play the exact same every week.
Wisc beats OSU
MSU beats Wis
MSU favored by 20 vs OSU
Cmon Man!!!!
October 23rd, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^
So *that* is how you defend the trips formation. Amazing.
October 23rd, 2010 at 2:32 PM ^
We have Illinois at home.
October 23rd, 2010 at 2:35 PM ^
All I know about the Illinois game is that their offense vs our defense is going to be a shocking cripple fight.

I will post it next week when we are 6-2. Keep up the great posts.

2 truck plays away from 2 losses.

<br>I dread the potential for Sparty to rep the Big 10 in the Rose Bowl and make the entire conference look bad.

but the 'Cats just nailed a 41 yarder to make it a 6 point game and lead MSU 27-21, go Cats!!!

Indiana was on the road and didn't have their starting tailback? Wait, what was the score again? Oh, 43-13.
Yeah... we're going to have our hands full with Illinois, I'm afraid.
October 23rd, 2010 at 3:41 PM ^
Illinois had 43 points, but it was on 280 yards of offense and only had 2 drives of over 40 yards. They took advantage of 4 interceptions and a fumble. If we can take care of the ball, we should be fine.
October 23rd, 2010 at 3:44 PM ^
They're also down a couple linemen and three members of the secondary. They're not the same team we faced.
Illinois returned two interceptions for touchdowns, blocked a punt for a safety and started three other drives within Indiana's 25. Illinois was also outgained by 100 yards and only had two drives of more than 40 yards.
Illinois is not bad, but this game doesn't prove that they're good either. Indiana had the passing attack style to really hurt us. That attack has been neutered a bit by injuries and also actual competency by other defenses. Indiana's awful defense was able to contain Illinois. I believe we will be able to do the same, and if we don't commit turnovers, we should win.

this makes me feel better. Now please tell me things about today's Penn State game that will quell my anxiety about next weekend.
October 23rd, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
1) Joe Pa has gone Senile.
2) Bolden got injured, they may be playing a walkon @ QB next week.
3) Minnesota is a baby seal right now less than a week after their head coach was fired.
4) Penn State is so injury ridden right now I think they're on their 3rd string TE, and mostly 2nd and 3rd stringers on defense. They're us on defense with a much worse offense.
5) Our helmets have wings.
October 23rd, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
Trembling in fear of Illinois, and terrified of a frosh led depleted Penn State. Unfortunately, with Denard regressing, and the defense being what it is... I have the same fears.
October 23rd, 2010 at 4:02 PM ^
illinois did precisely the opposite of what we did last week. we gained 500+ yds only had 28, somehow indiana only gave up 289 yds and let up 43 points.
from the stat sheet, it looks like indiana probably shouldve won but they were -4 in TO margin
October 23rd, 2010 at 4:19 PM ^
That may be the lowest yard/point ratio ever.
October 23rd, 2010 at 4:57 PM ^
I vaguely remember us doing something similar against Purdue in 08 because Odoms had a bunch of good returns and we had less than 300 yards of offense and 42 points.
October 23rd, 2010 at 6:03 PM ^
Illinois will not be a cake walk, that is a decent squad right their

October 23rd, 2010 at 8:25 PM ^
Before the season I had chalked the IL game at home as a victory, but the IL defense improves every week. It will be a tough home game and we better not make mistakes the way we have the past 2 weeks at home. Hopefully, we'll have our 6th win at PSU next week and it will take the must win pressure off the team.
October 23rd, 2010 at 8:40 PM ^
Seriously, are we fucked when we play Illinois or what?
I'll go with "what."
