By Rivals.com you mean Cracked.com and this is a joke.
This sucks.
August 11th, 2010 at 12:46 PM ^
If true, FML. Where the hell would he go? If he can't start here, where could he start?
August 11th, 2010 at 12:44 PM ^
Got it too chewer. Figured that there was a moratorium on this subject, since nothing has blown up yet...
August 11th, 2010 at 12:46 PM ^
rumor mongering helps no one in or out of the program. by sticking to things that can be verified officially or "damn close" the board becomes less bs and more truthiness
August 11th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
Exactly why I didn't post it. I respect Les Miles as our head coach too much to do that to him...
August 11th, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
Well, that just sucks. Has there been any information as to what led to this? I know that he was struggling, but did he say (or has there been information from reliable sources) as to why he chose to pack it in?
August 11th, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
We didn't want him anyway! Everyone knows he wasn't that good of a player, and the coaches hardly recruited him a few years ago. No loss here. /s
August 11th, 2010 at 12:45 PM ^
Barwis Shmarwis. Keep your kids in shape. Motivate him - whatever it takes. Earn your keep as a coach. Otherwise what good are you? Premium talent needs to be cultivated. This is pathetic.
August 11th, 2010 at 12:46 PM ^
Dumbest comment in mgoblog history?
August 11th, 2010 at 12:48 PM ^
this is just unreasonable/stupid. "if he was so good on paper coming out of hs, why hasn't he succeeded - must be the coaching" is the new "UM had a top 15 recruiting class, how could they possibly go 3-9... they're Michigan!"
August 11th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
What does this have to do with Barwis? If Turner wasn't getting in shape during the offseason, he doesn't have the mindset to play big time football. Motivate him with what? He already plays on a great football team that anyone else would kill to play for. This would be due to his own laziness, not our coaches.
August 11th, 2010 at 12:50 PM ^
Barwis can't lift the weights for him. If a kid doesn't want to do something, he's not going to. If it is true that the kid didn't have the desire to be in shape, we are better out without him. Every player has to be committed to what he is doing for the team.
August 11th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
Look, I am not going to flip out about it. He struggled to get on the field and in the classroom. Michigan is not a good fit for everyone. Best of luck to him and I hope he gets things straightened out at his new school.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:16 PM ^
I guess I see your logic. This is no big deal right? When I get upset about this I can just comfort myself with the knowledge that there are so many corners on the team ready to take his place and play in college and the Big Ten.... While Turner wasn't the corner (yet) that everyone hoped he would be, he was still solid enough to play in front of all of the incoming freshmen. He was only a redshirt freshman. He had a lot of potential and a lot of time to cultivate it. This is a major blow to the team. We had all better hope that neither Woolfolk or Floyd gets injured.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:58 PM ^
Look, if he wasn't ready to play, HE WASN"T READY TO PLAY! He was helping anyone on this team. I wish it was a different story, but it's not. Doesn't look like he was going to play corner anyways so let it go man.
August 11th, 2010 at 2:07 PM ^
There are a lot of ways to contribute - to act like this isn't a loss, however slight, is a bit off. It's not the loss of a starter but it is a loss all the same.
August 11th, 2010 at 3:39 PM ^
Considering he was our number 3 corner up until Monday, I'm not sure where you're getting this "he wasn't ready to play" stuff. Apparently our coaches thought he was ready to play.
August 11th, 2010 at 4:28 PM ^
What evidence do you have that he was our #3 CB? I don't ever recall the coaches coming out with a cornerback ranking, and anything else is blatant speculation. From the spring, we only heard about Floyd and Woolfolk and there were only 2 other scholarship CB's on the team at that point. It's very likely that had Turner stuck around, he was farther down the list than 3, because since he got to campus, I never heard anyone, coaches or otherwise, say Turner was better than anyone on our team.
The "he wasn't ready to play" stuff came from the fact that we had a horrible DB situation last fall, and he never sniffed the field. And then after Warren left, no one spoke a good word about Turner, unless it was "I sure hope JT Turner can be good enough to play soon."
August 11th, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
Thank you...exactly what he said.
August 11th, 2010 at 12:53 PM ^
He hasn't transfered. He's just received his release to transfer. There is always a chance that he's feeling disappointed and frustrated and pissed and embarassed right now, but that this evening he'll sit down, think about it, and decide to stay.
It could happen.
Right?
Someone?
</crickets>
August 11th, 2010 at 12:53 PM ^
Just read on Rivals he plans to transfer
August 11th, 2010 at 12:53 PM ^
August 11th, 2010 at 1:00 PM ^
What makes you think he would transfer to osu? I wouldn't be shocked to see him at a MAC level school.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:17 PM ^
He is on the two deep. He's our number 3 corner....
August 11th, 2010 at 1:34 PM ^
On paper, that may be correct. I usually try and go by who actually gets on the field. And it was sounding more and more like JT wasn't getting there soon.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:55 PM ^
If you're talking about the events of today, then yes, he wasn't going to see the field. But at the end of spring, there were some mixed reviews on him but he was the solid number 3 corner. Which is where someone with mixed reviews would play, especially with the depth at corner on this team. Again, he's only a redshirt freshman. People shouldn't expect him to be incredible when he's playing one of the hardest positions to play on the field.
August 11th, 2010 at 12:59 PM ^
then fuck you. Nothing is gifted to you. Good luck wherever you go Justin, I hope you don't regret this for the rest of your life. Have fun with the tattoo removal.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
don't take it personally or anything.
August 11th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
I mean, look at his name...
August 11th, 2010 at 1:04 PM ^
No reason to baby this kid, and certainly no reason to place blame on Barwis. This kid doesn't have the toughness to compete for playing time and would rather just transfer out and head to a school that will give him automatic PT? Good riddance. No "best of luck to you" bullshit for this coward.
I'll take a roster full of Kovacs' before a bunch of entitled pansies like this kid.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:07 PM ^
We're all assuming that he was one of the kids that "wasn't in shape" to play D-1 ball. But do we know that? Could there be another reason? Just slow down.
I do hope he finds success, because I hope everybody finds success. If he wasn't going to be a player that would see the field this year, then that just makes it better for us. No worse for him.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:11 PM ^
I never implied that he was. I am assuming he's a baby and doesn't want to work for PT, which is pretty undeniable in light of recent events.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:19 PM ^
The mods on Rivals are all saying that he did next to nothing this past summer and was extremely out of shape at the start of camp.
August 11th, 2010 at 2:20 PM ^
+1 for "slow down." Timeless advice.
August 11th, 2010 at 3:23 PM ^
That is unless you're Shoelaces
August 11th, 2010 at 1:14 PM ^
my comment was a bit too vitriolic. I'm on a hair trigger right now, I just want to see the team succeed. Blahhhh, I'm going to play golf and forget about this for the day.
August 11th, 2010 at 2:49 PM ^
careful dude, that's like two sides to the 'fire triangle'...
August 11th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
fire.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
Perhaps this is evidence that the newcomers (Courtney Avery, Cullen Christian, T Talbott) are doing well in practice. Perhaps they are impressing and getting more snaps than JT.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:09 PM ^
...but three days in?
What can we say? Kids transfer. Not everybody's the perfect person in the world. I mean, everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever.
Argh.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
For anyone:
-Turner had a chance for greath things. His life won't be the same.
-The RR detracters will use this as fuel to their fire. (But don't tell me Bo won't have done the same exact thing).
-The team is somewhat weakened by the player's absence.
-This will help opponents to continue to negatively recruit michigan.
I hope JT Turner has a huge wake up call from this whole experience, and when he looks in the mirror blames no one but himself. I will root for him to turn his career around at another institution. I'd rather the young man learns a lesson than throws away his life.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:01 PM ^
Don't care. It isn't like turner was going to see the field anyway this season. He is fat, lazy, doesn't take every play seriously, and is a cancer. Addition by subtraction. I trust true freshman over turner, who is basically a tackling dummy.
August 11th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
who compulsively has to exert some false expertise and people try to avoid inviting to social events, unless a smart friend-of-a-friend will be there that will tear him a new asshole. then you leave saying "the party was lame anyways."
yeah. that guy.
August 11th, 2010 at 2:27 PM ^
I know I am d bag. My wife says that all the time.
August 11th, 2010 at 5:19 PM ^
I hope your wife transfers then.
August 11th, 2010 at 3:07 PM ^
You may be right. It's not necessarily true in this situation (as none of us know the details) but in general, unmotivated types have a corrosive effect on the entire team. Hopefully his leaving relates mostly to such attitude issues.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:03 PM ^
players that are serious about football! From what it sounds like Turner never put in the time and didn't take it seriously. Good luck to him.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:03 PM ^
Yeah, he wasn't supposed to be a starter, but he would have had some PT this year. That means whoever his replacement is (Cullen, Teric, etc.) hopefully plays well. We can't pretend this doesn't hurt. It shouldn't affect our record this year, but this probably means that our secondary will be another big question mark next year with Woolfolk gone. We know Floyd played well in spring, but no one particularly impressed me last year. Even our backup corners weren't great against Delaware State. We need T-Wolf and Floyd to stay healthy, and hopefully we have a serviceable 3rd guy.
August 11th, 2010 at 1:05 PM ^
Dear Cullen Christian,
Please be good exceptional at football.
Sincerely,
