OT - Michael Vick misleading headline

The headline of this story is "Prosecutor: Vick in confrontation before shooting." I encourage you to read the content of the story.  It seems more than odd that the headline isn't "Vick cleared in investigation."

I'm not posting this to comment on Vick or dogfighting.  I'm posting this as an example of the sensationalism and absurdity of sports journalists and editors (who, I'm guessing, are currently furiously gathering information as to whether or not Lebron James has sneezed today) and their oft-seen lack of concern for truth-type-stuff.

As mainstream journalism trends more and more toward the sensational, you have to wonder where it will end.

Can a misleading headline be considered libel?  We need some big lawsuits to get accredited news organizations back on the straight-and-narrow.

I also agree with the above posters. I know what he did was wrong, but I'll always remember him as my favorite player just a couple years ago.   Hopefully he gets a little smarter about even being close to these situations in the future.

It is sad to see how pathetic the media has become.  It seems like everyone would rather be the first to report a half true story than report concrete facts an hour later.

i'm afraid that this problem reaches well beyond sports (with more serious consequences in other areas). with news organizations scrambling for any dollar they can find just to survive, everything that happens is "breaking news" and only the sexiest stories make it through. maybe my memory is bad, but it sure seems to me that all of the cable news networks spend MUCH more time on trivial stories than ever before (e.g., anything to do with levi johnston). hell, as i write this, the lead story on cnn.com is "lindsay lohan's career of wrong turns." unfortunately, whether it's sports or news, i don't see how it changes any time soon.
