OT - Michael Vick misleading headline
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/07/08/vick.confrontation.ap/index.html?eref=sihp
The headline of this story is "Prosecutor: Vick in confrontation before shooting." I encourage you to read the content of the story. It seems more than odd that the headline isn't "Vick cleared in investigation."
I'm not posting this to comment on Vick or dogfighting. I'm posting this as an example of the sensationalism and absurdity of sports journalists and editors (who, I'm guessing, are currently furiously gathering information as to whether or not Lebron James has sneezed today) and their oft-seen lack of concern for truth-type-stuff.
he did wrong with the dogs, but really hope he can keep himself out of trouble.
As mainstream journalism trends more and more toward the sensational, you have to wonder where it will end.
Can a misleading headline be considered libel? We need some big lawsuits to get accredited news organizations back on the straight-and-narrow.
I also agree with the above posters. I know what he did was wrong, but I'll always remember him as my favorite player just a couple years ago. Hopefully he gets a little smarter about even being close to these situations in the future.
COMMON CHEMICAL CAUSES THOUSANDS OF DEATHS A YEAR!!!
Oh yeah. It's just water.
Say NO to dihydrogen monoxide!
Did you know it appears in all nuclear plants?
Breathing it in can kill you?
If you get too much you die?
If you dont get enough you die?
(I'd have more but the ChemE at work left for the day)
It's the combination of two HIGHLY FLAMMABLE components!
i didnt know freep writers were getting syndicated to SI.
It is sad to see how pathetic the media has become. It seems like everyone would rather be the first to report a half true story than report concrete facts an hour later.
"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."
Though I have to admit that I will probably spend a lot of time tonight mulling over how it is that Lindsey Lohan's career has gone so far off the tracks.
(meant to be a joke)
He electrocuted dogs, man. I know he got jail time, but a mis-leading headline isn't the worst thing that should be happening to him, IME.
Well I don't think it's Vick in particular that is the problem here. It's just that the article headline blatantly misrepresents the story that rubs me the wrong way(I'd feel the same way if it were an article about Roethlisburger or Pacman for example)
I think a better headline would be "Vick: Delaying the Inevitable"
