OT: Big Lebowski Released 20 Years Ago Today
One of the greatest movies of all time, and a board favorite, the Big Lewbowski, was released twenty friggin' years ago today. That does make me feel old. BUT, it also is a time to reflect on what a wonderful movie it is and all of the references that come from it.

It's always been released
Nihilist Arby's! Fuck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of a roast beef sandwich, dude, at least it's an ethos.
"You are old. Remember that." - this post
I just want to understand this sir, every time a rug is micturated upon in this fair city, I have to compensate the person?
Miller’s Crossing gets no mention for how excellent it really is.
I bet I've said that a million times over the last 20 years!
And I speak from experience here. The very first time I watched it, well...I didn't dig it all that much. By the third time, though, I was absolutely loving it.
It grows on ya.
You got it.
I happened to stumble upon that image, sized perfectly, when I was looking for an avatar to use here. And yeah, it doesn't *really* go with my username, but that username dates back to the account I used to have in the late 90s/early 00s on eBay (yep, seriously!), and it kinda stuck with me ever since.
I care about nothing
The movie that really ties the room together.
If you're not, you know, into the whole brevity thing.
Let's just say I've quoted Walter's "Shut the fuck up, Donny!" quite a bit recently.
Happy 20th to one of my favorite films of all time.
I like the movie and it definitely has some extremely funny moments, but I've just never understood the complete infatuation with it.
If I see it on TV, there's really only a handful of scenes I'll stop to watch it for. Good movie, and definitely quotable. But there's plenty of other movies I'd rather watch.
It's the opposite of a dumb comedy. The writing is excellent and the humor comes not from just one catch phrase but how they all tie together.

This is our most modestly priced receptacle
It's, "Donnie was a good bowler and a good man!" . . . That "most modestly priced receptacle" never could match the quality of a large can of Folgers coffee from Ralphs.
Who's the asshat who downvoted everything?
Some dumb twat
Beaver? Uhhhh, you mean vagina...?
that characterized the movie as the Coen brothers' homage to (and spoof of) film noir. If you compare the crazy story line to the Big Sleep or Farewell My Lovely, the theory kind of makes sense. The Dude is the anti-Phillip Marlowe.
A couple of my favorites
I've seen this movie a kabillion times. Love it to death. One of my all-time favorites.
However, I was once watching it on a plane next to a total stranger. She had nothing to do and I offered her an earbud and we watched together. At the end, she nodded in semi-approval and then offered, "Pretty good, but he never got his rug back." That had not occured to me.
It's stuck with me ever since. The whole saga is set in motion by the carpet pissers and The Dude's quest for simple indemnification. That leads to hilarity and hijinx. But at the end, there is no money, he's out his car, Donnie's dead, and he never even got his fuckin' rug back which was his primary goal the entire time. In hindsight, I agree with random airplane passenger lady - the ending would have felt more poetic if he ended up righting the wrong.
Anyway, happy belated birthday, Lebowski.
Just reading through this thread. Was this a secret negbang? I've never seen so many downvotes.
I'd like to add, this movie was on my list of "saw it and didn't quite get it" movies. There was a thread about it on here a handful of years ago. The awesome people on this blog told me to give it second watch if I didn't quite get it. Needless to say I've given it more than another watch. One of my favorites now.
