Citing Texas arrogance as a reason to leave the Big 12 is a pretty thinly veiled way of saying "we're tired of taking heartbreaking losses to a superior team and having them brag about it year after year." They don't know what they're in for as soon as MSU beats them ONCE.

...between pride and arrogance. Depending on your world view, it can unfortunately be hard to discern the difference.

That being said, here is a shot of the Cornhuskers proposed new seating for 2010:

Yet overall, it sounds like many Nebraskans have considered a move to the Big Ten as a new adventure. I'm curious what is said about the other teams in the Big Ten. The more I think about it the more I like the idea of Nebraska in the Big Ten, they sound like our kind of school. The football games between Michigan and Nebraska would be gynormous but they better not underestimate the schools that lie directly NE of them, Wisconsin and Iowa in particular;  I would expect some serious rivalries to spring up between those teams. I think the Huskers would be an exciting addition to the conference.

I'm curious as to whether our 'arrogant attitude' is the attitude of stalwart Michigan fans or simply a reaction to a similar attitude coming from likewise stalwart Husker fans?

Colorado, I went to a couple of CU-Neb games in Boulder as a relatively neutral observer. Huskers are pretty good fans from my limited direct experience--passionate and knowledgeable--but my CU friends always had a different opinion.

I'd be on board if they were added to the B10, at least from a football perspective, and I suspect my opinion of corn nation would soon align more with my CU friends.

One of my best friends is a Husker.  I think when most Huskers think Michigan, they think of the bitter taste of sharing the National Championship and don't really know much else about us.  I'm sure if they join the conference, they will quickly realize that the real douchebags are in Columbus.

Arrogant?  I prefer "disproportionately confident."

The more of us that read it, the more page views this fucktard gets.  I'm treating this like a Freep article.  As much as I'd like to read it for myself, I'm not contributing even the tiniest bit toward him getting advertisements for his site.

(Yes, I do realize that some people did have to read it and leave comments here in order for me to know that it's garbage without having to read it myself)

I was all smooth with having Nebraska in the Big 10, and now I've been reminded of the 97 debacle and how thick through the middle and culturally retrogade these muthafathasistaf*ckers are and I've kinda gone off it. Let's get Rutgahs and some other roadkill we can whip up on and maintain our sense of overweaning arrogance--that's gonna be my new stance. I mean, really! They're just slinking away from the Dust-Ridden 12 because Texas ate their little manwich sandwich a decade running.

And honestly (rant almost over) what can their august AAU-level "graduate research institution" really be up to out there? Do we not already have large enough kernels of GMO corn and bogus synfuel subsidies? Does Monsanto require an even bigger presence in the B10?

Quote from the article:

"That's why when you get a chance to knock of the weasels".

Them teachins is good in Nebraska.

I can deal with being called a weasel. I can deal with butthurt insults about the '97 championship (I wonder how many times Chuck would have picked THEIR QB off in a game?).

Nobody calls Red Berenson a slut. For their sake, I hope JMFJ doesn't hear about this, or else the corn might not be making it to harvest this year.

Also going to be as superfan as possible while driving through their state in a week and a half en route to Boise.

...viewing pleasure. After the Fiesta Bowl victory, we jumped from #5 to #2 in the final rankings.

I loved that season from the opening day win against Notre Dame to the Harbaugh-Kolesar TD that sealed the win against OSU. In between there was the heartbreaker against Iowa when we lost 12-10 on a game ending FG in a #1 vs. #2 matchup and the inexplicable 3-3 tie against Illinois that cost the team a share of the Big Ten title. The defense featured Mike Hammerstein, Mark Messner, Brad Cochrane and Mike and Andy Moeller and was absolutely dominant giving up only 98 points over the entire season.

Good times.

The author claims "Michigan is everything we think Texas is". He provides points which I'll counter:
Having more than their fair say in conference rules? Check.
Really? Provide evidence please, otherwise don't even write it. Even taking an objective look back about it, I can't see any rules in place that give Michigan an advantage over other Big 10 teams.
Arrogant fans? Check.
Yes, because I'm sure Nebraska fans aren't arrogant. Nor tOSU fans, nor MSU fans, etc. Give me one fanbase that doesn't think their team is the best. Heck, two years ago I was driving through Arkansas and they were boldly predicting the team to go 12-0 (this was before Ryan Mallett).
Coaches you can hate? Well, truth be told. Michigan has Texas beat handily here. Mack Brown seems like a pleasant enough fellow. Rich Rodriquez, on the other hand, has his hands full with the NCAA at this point. Think Augie Garrido was unsportsmanlike when the Longhorns refused to accept the runner up trophy at the College World Series? Meet Red Berenson, the Weasels hockey coach.
The Berenson supposed tirade was just him saying his team didn't play up to their potential. Every coach says that. And the piling on Rodriguez can just stop. In fact, I'm just done with this author.

is a great line from the movie, "Unforgiven" in a scene between Richard Harris and Gene Hackman.

The scene starts at the 1:00 mark...

Hey, as Hukser fan stuck in B10 territory, I do hope they get to move to the B10. But let's face it, the Husker's appear to have weathered their coaching/AD disaster. It appears to me that yours is just getting started. Ouch, I know how it is to have winning streaks, bowl streaks etc. snapped.

So, what they hey, we've got a fair amount in common. Great history, Great fans, Great arguments and I suspect the potential for a huge rivalry. After all, Nebraska got the real trophy in 1997, earned on the field playing the highest ranked team they could.

Claiming that as a Michigan National Championship, well, that's like thinking USC won three in a row.

Here's hoping we become a part of the Big 11,12, 13, 14 or whaterver...
