Looks like at least 5 first teamers for next year though. Let's hope to add BP or DM to that list!

With the quality of the RB in B1G, good on Higdon for getting on the team!

Feeling okay about the signing day trade-off of Higdon instead of Weber

Neither Barrett nor McSorley strike me as guys that will play QB on Sundays....Thorson maybe? Looking forward to putting one of our guys in the NFL in the coming years.

Deshaun Watson was a first-round draft pick.
November 29th, 2017 at 1:19 PM ^
But he is not accurate enough and gets into some major funks.
McSorely does not have the arm strength to play in the NFL - at least not yet. Not sure if that is something you can improve significantly but he is not even close right now.
November 29th, 2017 at 2:25 PM ^
The same complaints were made about Joe Montana, Drew Brees and another QB that we're a bit more familiar with.
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/10/nfl-patriots-tom-brady-draft-college-mi…
No, I'm not saying that McSorley will be a future HOFer, but arm strength is overrated in terms of the entire package of skills that QBs have to possess to be successful in the NFL.
November 29th, 2017 at 2:49 PM ^
However, there is a minimum amount that you need due ot the speed of the defense. That is why a lot of dual threat types that excel in college but don't get a shot at the NFL due to arm strength as well.
McSorely is a very good college QB that can hurt you through the air or on the ground. He seems like a smart kid from the bits I have sign of him and has good accuracy but man he has got a pop gun arm.

are all bad QBs as whole. This is part of the reason why B1G gets little respect on the national level. SEC QBs are just as bad. Even the MAC has better QBs overall than the B1G which is sad.
If B1G wants to compete for the NC, they need to find a stud QB to lead them there. Jury is out for Peters and McCaffery. There's a lot of hype on Dwayne Haskins and he looks really good in limited time this season.

I wouldn't pencil Filiaga in just because he was the highest rated OL in last year's recruiting class, especially if Newsome is able to come back (*fingers crossed*).Theoretically we'd only have one spot open:
LT - Newsome
LG - Bredeson
C - Ruiz
RG - Onwenu
RT - ?
It's also possible that Bredeson moves to tackle (especially if Newsome never plays again). I'd guess a RS junior Runyan is the nominal 5th guy for now with Spanellis the most likely 6th OL and JBB hanging around the mix if he gets a 5th year.
November 29th, 2017 at 1:22 PM ^
He is a solid run blocker and they can put a TE on his side against strong pass rushing DEs.
However, if the LT is struggling next year, then we have a problem.

November 29th, 2017 at 9:12 PM ^
He might be but it isn't "definite." I see a clear top group of Bredeson, Onwenu and Ruiz. JBB is in a group with Spanellis and Runyon. I would put the other freshmen (Stueber, Hudson, Filiaga and Honigford) in a third group just because I don't have the information to make a determination of who is better than the others. I have heard a lot of speculation that Steuber and/or Hudson may start at the tackles which would suggest they are the 4th and 5th best OL.
Bottom line: there are too many options for the 4th and 5th "best OL" to defnitely put JBB there. That said, I think you want at least 8 OL ready to contribute and JBB should get a 5th year to be part of that.

Oh come on!
Which QB in the B10 is more offensive than OKorn?
(dont ban me please)
November 29th, 2017 at 12:26 PM ^
Imagine that no first teamers and two second teamers. I wonder why we lose games?. Michigan needs to pick it up on offense and with recruiting except I think this will look much better next year. Higdon, Gentry, Onwenu, Bredeson, Peters, Ruiz, Evans, Mckeon, Black, DPJ and maybe Mason will make it insome capacity. There may be others such as Perry or the kid from Iowa and Eubanks.
I cut into them a little bit but I like our receiving corps a lot, but until we see all our o-lineman on there and especially our QB we are not going anywhere and that is the cold truth.
Pick it up offense, look at the guys from the defense and there will be more next year. Gary and Hill are all americans next year. Like to see Bush push towards that status. A lot of all big ten players on defense.
November 29th, 2017 at 12:40 PM ^
They did pick it up in recruiting. The guys are all young. The class that should have contributing seniors this year was assembled by Brady Hoke.
The guys are hurt, too. Our receivers are going to be really good next season. If our tackles and QB can turn the corner, the offense will be revolutionized.
November 29th, 2017 at 1:28 PM ^
I generally feel fine about QB. Noise surrounding McCafferey has been good if it comes to it, but there's no reason not to expect a good year from Peters. He had his flaws this year but he showed his promise as a RS Fr with no receivers, injured RBs and no pass protection. Give him a bowl game, offseason to develop with starter reps, 2nd year with Pep and a healthy and more experienced receiving corps and he could be a damn good QB next year. If we can find some tackles the offense should be massively better next year.

Keep in mind that 1) upperclass OL tend to get more votes and 2) Onwenu missed some time with injury.

Yeah, not a super shocker.
Clayton Thorson getting 3rd team QB astounds me. He completed about 60% of his passes for 6.6 ypa and 15:12 TD:INT ratio. The Big Ten conference doesn't have a wealth of QBs, but good lord there had to be someone better.

I'm sure the Thorson love comes for all of his pre-season hype where many of the pundits had him rated as one of the ten best QB's in all of CFB. Obviously he didn't live up to the hype this year.
November 30th, 2017 at 12:34 AM ^
who had him as one of the ten best QBs in the country? Must be news to me. NFL aren't as high as the pundits are in preseason.

Makes me think of the two decade error Bill Martin made, first by holding onto Carr two years too long, which caused the recruiting to really slip, and then hire RR, a spread guy. Seeing guys like OL Michael Jordan from Mi who is on the All Big Team, and thinking of all the players who likely would have come to A2, like Jake Fisher, Zettel, etc, and instead we find ourselves with a small and weak OL with no tackles.

MGoBlue.com had a nice quote on Cole and Bredeson's awards
Overall, Cole and Bredeson spearheaded an offensive attack that registers as No. 3 in the Big Ten (186.3 yards per game), led by two of the top six rushers in the conference: Higdon (6.32 yards per carry) fourth and Evans (5.25) sixth.
I know we all want to be better running the ball, but considering everything, I think they did OK running this season.

for UM to have a 1st or 2nd team QB on the '18 BIG...hell, i'd even take a 3rd teamer
November 29th, 2017 at 6:55 PM ^
I just want a QB who garners more than 2 KFaTAotW* points next season. O'Korn got his 2 points against Purdue. That was it for the whole freaking season.
