Wednesday Recruiting Doesn't Need No Stinkin' Roundup
We haven't had a recruiting roundup for a while so thought I'd share some recent updates I've seen/heard and see what others can add for some #DIY 'crootin knowledge sharing.
2018
MD DE Eyabi Anoma: Sam Webb has been talking about Eyabi at length the last few weeks on WTKA. Alabama is the favorite and has received several visits but Michigan was in on him early and Sam keeps repeating the sentiment that if Michigan was out, they wouldn't be pursuing the kid this hard as Biff Poggi would let them know. Twitter Gawd Biff has referred to Eyabi as the best prospect he's ever coached, which is saying a ton given his tenure at Baltimore powerhouse Gilman and current role at Baltimore powerhouse St. Frances.
FL OT Nicholas Petit-Frere: On WTKA Sam made it sound like Michigan is very much in it with the big-time tackle prospect from Tampa. Sam met with him last week while in FL and says Nic's personality reminds him of Grant Newsome; also thinks he would be a great fit with the guys in the program. Bama, Florida, ND and Auburn are the competition.
NJ DE Jayson Oweh: Announcing on signing day with OSU and PSU the favorites. Did describe a recent Michigan offer as a "game-changer"
FL DE Taylor Upshaw: Michigan is working to flip Florida commit and son of longtime NFLer Regan. Sam says they'll get a visit from Taylor along with Taylor's coach in Bradenton, the one and only Garrett Rivas. Sam says Taylor is relatively new to football but has a lot of upside and reminds him a bit of a more raw Chris Wormley at this stage.

if they come to [insert team you root for] they care about Everything Good And Worthwhile.
If they commit to [insert team you hate] they only care about money and don't care about academics. They are also a Bad Person.

I'll have to find the link but ESPN usually does a survey like at one of the All-American games.

Reads up on a potential recruit. Gets excited. Sees committable Alabama offer. Sigh...

Demarr Chase would be a big get!
On the WR front Sam also mentioned Shocky Jacque-Louis (TN decommit who we heard a fair amount about early), Kamryn Babb (one of the St. Louis guys; OSU is the heavy CB leader) and Chris Olave, a CA 3-star who had a monster senior year and suddenly is being wooed by USC, OSU and Michigan.
Michigan probably only takes one WR and hopefully gets a real good one. With the size of last year's WR class/Martin and Black likely getting redshirts it doesn't seem to be a huge priority for '18.

Upshaw isn't super explosive at 6'5 240. I would expect him to bulk up and move inside, or he's a guy you put on the shelf for a few years as the strength staff molds him.

247 says that Upshaw is also visiting for The Game.

Huh? Milton is 100% blue and wouldn't fit their offense anyway.
The only team I would be a tad worried about is Florida when they hire Chip since Florida were runners-up for Joe.

I doubt that McNeill is still going to come for the OSU game considering he's committed to in state NC State and they're having a decent season this year. Really hope that the staff can impress Michael Thompson, Eyabi Anoma, and Talanoa Hufanga. MOAR defensive playmakers.
Other notable names visiting are Jamarr Chase and Nicholas Petit Frere

Something is fishy with Cain's recruitment. Not suggesting anything impermissible, per se, but it's weird that both sides seemed pretty connected back in July and now both have back off each other.

The parting of ways between us and Cain's camp happened before we knocked Crouch's visit out of the park. There was also a Cain quote talking about "Michigan does things differently" and it didn't sound like in a good way. There's something weird about his recruitment. Again, I'm not saying illegal, but I feel like the staff knows something about something related to him that made them say "yeah let's prioritize other RBs".
As for Crouch, "most likely" is pretty strong for a Charlotte kid when Clemson, Georgia, and Bama will all push for him and all have the geographic advantage. Would love to land him and I know we're in a good position, but let's not sell it as Michigan having better odds than the field just yet.

TN is in play, whether recruits have to give their money back when a school changes coaches. I would imagine, although the contract is verbal only, of course, that recruit would be allowed to keep the money because the coach is receiving a tremendous amount for no longer having to coach.

from Scout/247 with a little WTKA thrown in

Listened to a bunch of Sam updates while traveling today so just paraphrased info from those and included the Oweh bit from Twitter. Nothing from Scout/247 sites other than the profiles.
Only copy/pasted the visitors list from Landof10 since that's free for all anyway, but doesn't seem like it's a particularly updated one from comments on here.
