Where's this news coming from?
This poster has a personal connection with Higdon. He's provided a lot of good info in the past.
Is he the one who posted the awesome saga of Higdon's commitment?
Just nobody respond by wishing the OP could have presented the information in a better way. I think we all know how that'll end up.
Agreed!
He needs to keep pace with the improvement of other players on the team if he wants to maintain his status.
Seems like Evans has lost some speed with the added weight. He could be a shifty back with some great vision though.
The ESPN has him running a 4.66 in high school.
Evans has always been a 4.6 guy, I don't think he has lost a step. His top end speed isn't phenomenal, but he gets to top gear so fast and his lateral quickness and athleticism are elite. His game isn't completely analagous to Mike Hart's, and I think he would beat Mike in a foot race (2006 Mike), but he is a runner that is just super hard to tackle, has great vision, and plays faster than he tests.
Having 4.4 speed is great, but running in a straight line is only one direction that a running back takes. Just because you can hit 4.4 from one start doesn't mean you can hit 4.4 running in another direction, or that you can suddenly stop and get back to that speed quickly.
I'm sure many backs as well are able to run faster when they have the adrenaline of in play asction as well.
I'd like to see them add some sort of combo drill like a three cone shuttle + a 25 yard dash. Straight line speed is nice, but give me the guy that can change direction and accelerate any day of the week.
I really love hearing about the guys' offseason and seeing who has improved and how impressive some of these guys are at such young ages. But, this is yet another example of why these sorts of tests are not a great indicator of how good a footall player is at playing football. Higdon is obviously stronger and faster, yet Evans is a better running back. And, that ability is most aparant when...he's playing football (which is unpredictable and requires reading and reacting) and not doing closed skill tests (which are predictable and don't require reaction and recognition).
As Dr. Stu McGill said "The best athletes rarely outperform their peers in pre-season testing like bench pressing and squatting. Their distinguising qualities are motor control. The ability to exert strength quickly, deactivate muscle quickly, and optimally project forces throughout the body linkage is charasteristic of this skill."
"Higdon is here. Evans is less than here."
That's what I just read.

He's always included in these when his numbers are less than Kiran's...he gets the 2nd most mentions.
I forgot about O'Maury. I love that we have guys I'm excited about and forget that they are on the team. Good things are coming.
I was laying on my deck half asleep when I typed this. I am much younger than you seem to think and my writing/grammar skills are what I hang my hat on LOL (I write all damn day). I just go into text/chat mode when on the blog. Good catch though, pretty obnoxious mistakes, though I am nothing if not consistent.
because he made no reference to your age whatsoever. He compared a younger version of himself to an older version of himself in a somewhat awkward, third-person way.
I want to see how Speight performs in a more wide open passing attack...
Higdon sounds like a beast. Can't wait to see a 1-2 punch of Evans and Higdon with Isaac and Walker complementing the two.
I thought this was a finebaum free zone?
Wilton will start but Peters is legit. Can we interpret this to mean that Peters is ready to play but Wilton is too good to bench?
sounds great! well see what shakes out but itd obviously be near ideal if thems the facts
I kinda saw it that way too. Not surprising with a full year and another spring under his belt that Speight would be the guy and hard to dethrone. BUT it makes me feel a lot better that Peters is seriously pushing because it means we won't have to worry much if Speight gets hurt.
I suspect you can interpret any way you want. Practice hasn't even started yet.
I read this as if Wilton Speight is Tajh Boyd, but Peters is Deshaun Watson. Both are All Americans, but one maybe a better All American than the other.
Interesting...I was going Speight is Montana and Peters is Young. I'm a little disappointed, but Boyd and Watson were okay I guess.
Speight is Favre and Peters is Rodgers. Or, maybe they're both Tom Brady.
Speight is Finkle, Peters is Einhorn
Somewhat surprised that Evans is running a 4.6. Seems a little slow.
(Says the guy who probably can't run the 40 any faster than 6-7 seconds.)
Wonder if it has to do with the muscle he's added on.
How does this team look compared to last year's team going into camp?
Hint: "We're better at this point in preseason" is the correct answer.
That's why Florida is so important. Win that one and we have some games to work on things before things get hot again.
to lose Peppers, Chesson, Darboh and Lewis and get faster.
So that is amazing news and good things are ahead.
