Hello MBB: Jaaron Simmons (PG transfer from Ohio U)
He will be eligible to play immediately.

"Point guard Jaaron Simmons will forgo his final season as a Bobcat and transfer to Michigan for his final year of college basketball. It will be Simmons' third collegiate team in his career — the 6-foot-1 guard played at Houston in the 2013-14 season."
"Simmons averaged 15.9 points and 6.5 assists per game, including a 17.2 points per game average in conference play, last season."
Edit: According to the Ohio athletics website, he had declared for the 2017 NBA draft but did not hire an agent. He shot 43.3% from the field, 34.6% from 3-pt, and 72.5% FT for the 2016-17 season.

Really crossing my fingers that they both come back. A lineup of Simmons, MAAR, Matthews, Wilson, Wagner with X, Poole, etc off the bench could do a lot of damage.
yes, and more yes

would be Beilein's first choice. Cam Johnson may be a better player, but Simmons looks like the better fit.

I'm not sure, but I thought I had read somewhere else that we still have 1 schollie left for next year. I don't know if Beilein plans to use that on another transfer for next season or not. Anyone have any insight?

No Bamba No Cry
I read even with this pick up if DJ and Mo return we'd still have one spot open.
Although I think either DJ or Mo leaves. It'd be super lucky to have both return. In which case if Mo and DJ return I wont be salty about Bamba going somewhere else

I like this pickup. Provides a solid floor for PG play next year, which was the biggest question mark (assuming Mo and DJ return)

This was the right move. Filled the biggest hole. Beilein has been burned before by not biting the bullet.
However . . . I assume that if Bamba wants to come to Michigan, we will figure out some way to make it happen. What are some possible ways we could do that?
Medical hardship someone on the team #SEC

You mean the guy with offers from Duke and Kentucky isn't going to end up at Michigan? But, I'm confused, we always win the recruiting battles with Kentucky.
To be fair to OP, it's nice to have some hope and Bamba hasn't said anything publicly, but yeah, I just don't see us beating out Duke or Kentucky even if Bamba is a little different than most prospects.
FWIW people in NYC have told me it's Kentucky. (please don't neg, I hate this shit too but I did hear some stuff)
and thought they're pretty meh. But he had a better sophomore year shooting (78/48/42) when he didn't have to carry the load in terms of usage. Had a better assist rate that year too (40!! compared to 34 percent). And he seems like a slasher/creater primarily, as he takes three times as many twos as threes, gets fouled at a high rate and has the aforementioned very good assist rate. This seems like a solid complimentary piece for the rotation that fills a need. Me like.
hmmm James Daniels has an Official visit scheduled May 29th. Itll be interesting to see if that visit is cancelled now. If not then it may mean Beilein is pretty sure we will be having Mo or DJ going pro
Just make sure to leave a spot for Bamba Please!
Considering May 24 is the NBA draft withdrawal decision date, Beilein will know for sure whether Wagner and/or Wilson will be back.
Look at duke, Kentucky, unc
Simmons at point, but I was hoping against hope the big guy might still be available to pick up regardless of the Duke-Kentucky-Texas sweepstakes battle for Bamba.
According to Beiein, Michigan doesn't have any more scholarships available unless something happens with DJ and Wagner who are both at home now workng out in California and Germany before making their NBA combine workouts.
He told the press at a gathering outside the new Little Caesar's arena in Detroti to announce Michigan's doub;e-header appearamce against Detroit along with MSU-Oakland, that he expects both his big guys to return next season. He didn't mention any Bamba scenario although he did say anything could happen rosterwise before the season gets underway.
Michigan is expected to have a pretty strong schedule in the non-conference in November-December with UCLA coming tp Crisler, plus the Maui Tournament.
