OT: ESPN Ticker Just Said Houston Has Contacted Miles and LANE KIFFIN
OK, Miles I can see. I mean, he's a little long in the tooth, and he got pretty stale at LSU, but I can see it as a "decent hire" at least...
But - and this is a serious question - who in the actual fuck would hire Lane Kiffin to be their head coach? The guy is a proven loser, a scumbag, and an all around a-hole. And before anyone says, "but look how good Alabama's offense has been with Kiffin," just stop it. Saban has had 4 different OC's in his tenure at Alabama, and the offense hasn't missed a beat...

What did that come from?

You know, Joey Freshwater! He is goods friends with Carlos Danger and Buck Naked...

I know Anthony Weinger used Carlos Danger as his sexting name, but is there a double meaning to it like Buck Naked or Heywood Jablowme? Have I missed a joke?
Car LosD Anger?
Carl OS Danger?

Their was a Tinder account based in Tuscalosa, AL. where the avatar name was Joey Freshwater, but the picture used was clearly Lane Kiffin.

That was Kiffin's supposed pseudonym for his Tinder account

I doubt he'd settle for the 3 million Herman was getting to coach a team with almost 0 chance to ever get in the playoffs.
Kiffin, loser and asshat though he may be, might be their most realistic option.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:39 AM ^
Honestly, if you're an AD at a major school and the best you can come up with is, "hey, let's give Lane Kiffin a call," it might be time to seriously consider a career change... or a coffee enema...

So, you're saying his market value is.....Less....than $3 million? How far would you say his estimate is off? Is it off by just a little, or is it off by....Miles?
December 1st, 2016 at 2:56 PM ^
God damn it.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:01 PM ^
But how many NC winning coaches are available this off season? Do you go with an up and coming G5 coach, or a proven winner that has had a few mediocre seasons as of late?
Les would be a great hire for pretty much any school, provided that his contract included a "Cam Cameron is not allowed to set foot within the state" clause.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:19 PM ^
So, with this reasoning, Gene Chizik (who's making $700,000 this year) would have to "settle" for a measly $3,000,000.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:38 PM ^
Chizik has like a .500 winning % so far. Miles is .721 so far, which ranks him as #49 all time and ahead of Spurrier, J Johnson, and a lot of other big names. Chizik isn't even in the top 250.

I thought he was in the $5 million range.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:47 PM ^
I think he actually was, when all income sources are factored in. But in any event, his market rate is still significantly lower than that right now. He was fired. Many think the game has past him by. No top tier job is going to consider him. He's going to go to a place where $3M is the max they are going to offer, and it's not clear he'll get the max.
On the other hand, why would Miles need to make more than $3M? He just got paid $10M or so not to coach. He's 63 years old. He has received massive amounts of money for a few years. He doesn't need to concern himself with getting every last dime out of his next coaching stop.

"Houston, we have a coach!"
December 1st, 2016 at 2:11 PM ^
He's 63 years old and, NC or no NC, has lost fewer than two games all of once as a head coach. He's not the kind of sure thing that you seem to think he is, an Oregon is not going to show up and offer him all the money. He'd be smart to take $3 million or so a year in Houston, provide them some stability and ride off into the sunset in familiar surroundings where he knows every high school coach in the area.
December 1st, 2016 at 2:17 PM ^
will be coaching at Notre Dame.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:52 AM ^
don't think his phone is ringing off the hook. He is 63 and his last few teams at LSU underperfomed. I actually think this would be a pretty ideal landing spot for Miles, even though I am guessing that Houston's personnel would be difficult to adapt to his style of offense right away.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:14 PM ^
Wait, so you're telling me Miles has a "style of offense"? I haven't seen any real offense from his teams in years.

When talking Bama offensive coordinators, I seem to recall a guy named Nussmeier. That worked out well.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:44 AM ^
December 1st, 2016 at 3:42 PM ^
Devin Gardner had some epic performances under Borges (ND, Indiana, Ohio State). He never came close to replicating them under Nussmeier.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:38 AM ^
And maybe having a relatively low-key job for a few year might help him turn into a good HC. While he has managed to firebomb two schools and an NFL team, he can recruit and has an Alabama pedigree. Pretty sure Houston would be a good spot for him.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:46 AM ^
In his defense, Lane Kiffin was way too young to get the Oakland job. I would give him a mulligan at UT as well; he didn't really understand in the inner workings of college football in the south. He never figured out that part of your job includes glad-handing with the good ole boys. USC was a mess.
I wouldn't be against seeing him get a shot at a school like UH. I think at this point in his career he could do it.
December 1st, 2016 at 12:03 PM ^
"Mrs. Kiffin, while we value your opinion, you seem to have a bit of a bias here..."
Seriously man, you just "explained away" his three total failures as a head coach by blaming everything on someone or something else. If he were to get two more head coaching jobs and fail at those too - thereby going 0 for 5 - would that be enough evidence for you???
December 1st, 2016 at 1:56 PM ^
by which he transported from UT to USC do reveal well the insight into what kind of human being he is even at his age.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:41 AM ^
I said this in response to Spencer on Twitter, but I reiterate
I'd sooner hire the dickbutt picture than hire Kiffin or Josh McDaniels as my college HC
December 1st, 2016 at 11:43 AM ^
Usually when schools contact him, he ends up with a raise and an extension

i'd look at somebody like Schiano or Scott Frost or Willie Taggert.
I think if I was Oregon, Schiano seems like a good hire.
I think Les Miles is a bit long in the tooth, and I have to agree on the Bama OC mainly anybody could do that job assumption.
Purdue should actually have a good candidate for once to pick from you'd think.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:49 AM ^
Not saying he couldnt win; but will a schoo that sucked at traditional football give up on the branding that made them successful? Too much if a risk. No way they go that route when Frost is availabke to continue the brand.

It would be off brand (and not a move I would make) but I don't think Oregon's brand or value proposition is as strong or unique these days. Almost every team runs some version of the up-tempo spread. Almost every school has top notch facilities. Almost every team wears crazy modernized uniforms and if they don't wear crazy modernized uniforms they bust out throwbacks or alternates multiple times a season.
December 1st, 2016 at 11:54 AM ^
Seems like an obvious hire, unless Fleck wants to hold out for a better job. But given his N. Illinois and W. Michigan pedigree, he seems pretty wired in to the prime recruiting area for the Boilermakers...
