Sam Webb on James Ross
I found this interesting:
"(MSU coach) Mark Dantonio, I see how he gets a lot of recruits," Ross' father James Sr. said. "He's real personable. He makes them feel comfortable and all that. And I do not know if I can put into words how comfortable (the Michigan visit) made us feel, but (recruiting coordinator) Chris Singletary and Coach Rodriguez really made us feel like we could take our shoes off up there and just chill out. It really felt like home."

I find it nice to hear parents saying stuff like this given all the crap Michigan has taken from the media.
That is really good to hear.
Is he considered one of the top recruits in Michigan for 2012?
I believe he is what most think will be the top kid in Michigan for 2012.
he is "theee" recruit in 2012.....now I'm sure by signing day he will be downgraded to a meh 3 star...currently he's regarded as the #1 recruit in Mich and a potential 4-5 star recruit.
is a stud. I saw him play last season and was shocked to hear that he is only a sophomore. He is big, athletic and was all over the field. Easily the top recruit in '12 class and if he's part of '11 class, I'd rate him as one of the top recruit in the state of Michigan.
He's 5* material. Sky is the limit for Ross. He's already big for a LB at his age(6' and 200 lbs) and can grow to 6'3" 240 when all is said and done in his senior year in HS. He's very athletic and can attack at the LOS.
It's safe to say that he'll be a top priority by the Michigan coaching staff for '12 class. Michigan has a good chance of landing him.
How in the world do you know he's going to grow from 6'0 to 6'3 from sophmore to senior year? Are you an orthodontist?
What would his teeth have to do with him growing?
He saw Ross play last year. Once you see a guy play one time, you can determine how much taller he'll get.

Although Orthopod sounds like something an alien might use in a metamorphosis, I think they might be the Dr. you are looking for in your statement, as I don't think teeth are all that predictive of how tall someone will get.
Although, maybe you know something we Dr.'s do not......They say the patient knows best after all.
It's good to have Sam Webb amongst the local media.
With Sr. on M's side we have a great chance securing his services! Hopefully he continues to be be wowed by M's success on the field this year. A win on 11/27/10 would definitely go a long way!
...in that he's more impressed by recent program success than by historical success. So, even though he's from Detroit and his dad's a major U-M fan, he secretly supports OSU because as Ross, Sr. says, "Over time through his short life, he did not see the success (by Michigan) that I did as a child." This recruitment is not going to come down to a U-M/MSU contest as his stated interest in OSU and PSU make clear.
"It [his junior day visit to OSU] was real exciting," Ross Jr. said. "They took me through a tour of the facility. I was seeing all stuff the linebackers had accomplished -- all the special awards trophies. It seemed like every linebacker that went through there got something." The linebacker prowess of another Big Ten program has also caught his attention. "There is another school, Penn State, that we're looking at," Ross Jr. said. "They recruited (quarterback) Rob Bolden from our school and he committed to them. So (Penn State assistant) Coach (Ron) Vanderlinden has been talking to me. I actually sent him my highlight tape and he said he really liked it." The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions haven't extended offers yet, but it's likely only a matter of time before they do.And the kicker:
"I do not really have a favorite right now because of (the visit to Ann Arbor)," he said. "It was Ohio State and Michigan State, but this just set it off. They're all about the same right now for me."Prediction based on flimsy evidence: Michigan will have to have a significant turnaround this year to have a real shot at James Ross.

...b/c I grew up when Mich was so dominant it is hard for me to think that people don't see them the same way. Truthfully though it has only been two years of non-bowl football. I suppose the losing streak to that team down south has taken its toll with a new generation. What I would have given for us to have won the 2006 game.
That's very refreshing and reassuring to hear.
Like Kishon Wilcher and baseball, my brother played hockey with James Ross. His nickname was "Biggie" and he was always the biggest guy on the ice. Big hitter, obviously has translated to football.
After hearing that he's a former hockey player, we have to find a way to sign this kid. However, signing day 2012 is a long fucking ways away. For better or for worse, the situation will be very different then than it is now.

I think he might still play with the Detroit Hockey Association. If you seek him out on FB, the pictures of him on skates are quite intimidating.
He played defense on the ice. Go figure.

Did your brother play golf with Trey Zeigler?

Unfortunately, no. We're Detroit-based.
He also played baseball with Mylan Hicks, and I played hockey with Dana Dixon, two Sparties.
...but the freep, mlive, etc don't bother to cover it.
That's why mgoblog is kicking their asses when it comes to UM sports.
"made us feel like we could take our shoes off up there and just chill out. It really felt like home." My favorite line of them all and I guess this just shows how much Big Baby Boren knows!

I really hope UM can land Ross and Royce Jenkins-Stone
At least that's my take on the situation. The reasons: our depth chart will guarantee early playing time, he has talked of his deire to play with his two buddies that attend Cass Tech, Richardson and Jenkins-Stone, dad is a big fan, and after what I believe will be RR's break out year this year there will be a big buzz about Meeechigan football because the team will have almost everyone returning AGAIN.
that he has exposure to Larry Foote. I think he has been a great alumni for us, and is definitely a good face for the program. Working out and getting pointers from a successful Michigan LB will only help our cause.
